Steyr Mannlicher Long Guns

Steyr Arms is the U.S. subsidiary of Steyr Mannlicher, an Austrian arms manufacturer with origins that stretch back to a medieval iron mine and weapons forging site. The company made long guns for the Habsburg Imperial Army and pioneered an advanced repeating rifle in the late 1800s. When WWI began, the armory was producing about 4,000 weapons a day. The post-WWI Treaty of Saint-Germain prohibited arms production and the factory was bankrupted. Production resumed during the Nazi annexation of Austria. After WWII, the company’s rifles equipped the new Austrian Armed Forces. Decades later, the company’s innovative StG 77 assault rifle was adopted by dozens of armed forces around the world.
