Yugo ( Serbian ) M48A 8MM Mauser Rifle, Bent Bolt With Beautiful Yugo Receiver Crest. Overall Surplus Good Condition.
Note - Although the image here reflects an actual M48A from this batch our warehouse guy not only picked a nice rifle but went overboard when I asked him to clean it up enough that we could take pictures of it. As such, this particular image will represents a best case scenario on a hand select rifle. Most of these rifles will show considerably more wear as you can see more properly reflected in the video.

C & R Eligible.

Brutus' Description

Wow, What a find. Made in the famous Zastava Arms Factory these historic firearms are somewhat of a rarity and a tremendous find for shooters and collectors alike.

C & R Eligible

7.9 x 57 ( 8mm Mauser Marked  8 x 53 on the rifle ) caliber, 5 rd, bolt action. Overall condition is standard good surplus.

The M48A is a great shooting rifle and the closest in design to the German K-98. In fact, as a shooter, I like the M48 series better than the K-98.

Note - Some of these rifles ( about 10% ) may have a very slight ( Non - Invasive ) crack in the stock.
We have not seen any crack that was an actual break or that would affect the integrity of the rifle.

The M48A rifle is exactly the same in every regard as the M48 rifles with the exception of the fact that the M48A has a stamped magazine floor plate.

Here is the rest of the story -

The original M48 Rifle was produced between 1948-1952- It was produced with all machined parts. all machined steel parts.

The M48A rifle was a slightly later version produced between 1952-1956 The basic difference in the M48A was that the M48A used sheet metal stampings for the magazine floor plate. These changes sped production while lowering cost. The critical bolt and receiver which contain the pressure of the burning propellant within the cartridge case retained the same material requirements and design tolerances  (i.e. were machined from forged steel)

Other than the magazine floor plate, which is slightly different ( if you look closely you can see the stampings ) the M48A retains the same overall look and markings of the original M48. For  practical purposes most shooters and collectors don't make a strong distinction between the 2 rifles with one basically being considered just as desirable as the other.  In fact many think that the M48A's being a couple of years newer will typically be in slightly better overall condition which would override the stamped floor plate being slightly less desirable. Personally I would just as soon have one as the other.

About the Condition / Grading - These rifles are averaging out at Surplus Good Condition and overall are a little nicer than our standard M48's. The surplus grading scale goes like this. Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, Excellent, Like New. On good grade guns ( such as these ) expect to see some wear and possibly even substantial cosmetic wear on both the stocks and and metal. Please know that even within the " Good Range " of the grading scale some will be better than others with some at the top of the range and others at the bottom.  Some show quite a bit of finish wear while others are pretty decent.

Most of these show good bluing and really solid stocks but expect standard digs and dings as is typical to this type of surplus. Most ( but not all ) still have their front sight hoods, but we do not guarantee a sight hoods. Bores have been all over the place from very nice to dark and well used / abused. We hand select for cosmetic external condition but do not hand select for bores as grading bore condition tends to be more subjective. Some, but not all, have cleaning rods. All have their original Yugoslavian Crest on the receivers and the Heavy Cupped Butt Plates that are typical to M48's.

Note - Although the image above reflects an actual M48 from this batch our warehouse guy not only picked a nice rifle but went overboard when I asked him to clean it up enough that we could take pictures of it. As such, this particular image will represents a best case scenario on a hand select rifle. Most of these rifles will show considerably more wear as you can see more properly reflected in the video.

Some ( about 60% ) have slings and will come with whatever original sling we received on the rifle if that rifle came with a sling. However we do not guarantee a sling or cleaning rod and again we do not hand select for bores and we have seen some dark and / or rough bores in this group.  Many of the bores have been thick with debris and what we assume is cosmoline with a lot of stuff stuck to it. On these rifles the bores look more like sewer pipes than a rifled barrel but again, we are selling them as is and not selecting for bore condition. My guess is that some will be nice, some will clean up nicely, and some will be poor and pitted. Luck of the draw on that.

Hand Select on these will constitute best of 5 from any group as long as up to 5 remain. When we get below that we will discontinue the hand select option.
Hand select will be for external cosmetic condition only.

Great find.

When I went to order my M48 there was only 6 left in stock and all 6 that were left had the receivers drilled for scope mounts. I was real hesitant in ordering this rifle due to poor reviews alot of these received with scared receivers and huge holes drilled for scopes. I ordered anyways and im glad i did. The wood on the one sent to me is in pristine condition, no cracks, no dents or dings anywhere on the stock, infact it almost looks new. The bluing is in MINT condition and the receiver holes drilled for a scope were done correctly and look really nice. Over all I rate this a five stars shipping included and the gun itself is in pristine condition.
Good

This rifle is in great shape. Minor damage to stock (around the buttplate) but no cracks. All numbers match except the bolt. I ordered one that was drilled for a scope, but unfortunately one hole was drilled through the crest which I guess can't be helped. If I could find a scope mount that fits, it will be covered anyway. Classic has the fastest delivery times. I will order again.
Very Nice M-48BO

Received My Yugo today and I'm very happy! Caution to those expecting to get a m-48 with a beautiful Yugo crest, the one I received is an M-48BO. To the best of my understanding the BO means "no markings". Although as far as my research has told me this in itself is a bit of a rarity. Has what appears to be a walnut stock since its dark wood all the way through. Very nice shape and an interesting piece of history. Thanks Classic Arms!
Very Disappointed

I was so happy with my first 48A I got a second, what a disappointment this gun was. First the positives...Very prompt shipping of item, had the sight hood and cleaning rod, there it ends. Hand guard and stock a total mismatch, no matching parts, the stock had large letters carved into it, the upper receiver areas above the bolt were ground down, obliterating the Yugo crest, it appears someone "attempted" to mount a scope on this a did a very poor job as there are two sets of mismatched holes. Out of dozens of orders place with Classic on my C&R, this is the very first time I have not given a product 5 stars. Although the action of the rifle appears very smooth and tight, I will probably not shoot this as it would be embarrassing to me to show up to the range with. Personally, This was at $200 rifle at best and I could probably not get that for it if I tried to sell it. Although disappointed, I will continue to deal with Classic as they have been wonderful to date, with this one exception, but dealing with surplus, I guess you have to expect this to happen some times.
Good, but.

Rifle was shipped fast. Wood stock was not pretty, gouges, big dents etc. Hand guard was cracked big time and was an attempt to be repaired at the depot with a slice of wood and glue that did not hold. I believe it was repairable and a buddy on mine with wood experience was going to repair it. Blue was not bad at about 80% left. Bore was nice. I took apart the bolt and the firing pin was broken/missing the tip. My research showed none available for replacement I was going to keep it, but the unavailability of parts dictate otherwise. Quick call to Classic Arms and I had a RMA in minutes. So the rifle was returned for exchange and should be by tomorrow in NC. Will post as soon as I get the replacement. Kudos for an excellent customer service.
Be Still My Beating Heart!!!

We used to get these in bulk from Century years ago, these are the first one's I've seen offered in some time. As I pulled it out of the box I had heart failure, it looked to be in unissued condition and completely matching, bolt, receiver, floor plate, and stock. With only a very few handling marks, new blueing, and a bore that shows nothing but shine. In fact the bore was so bright I swear I saw Marshal Tito looking back with a smile. Some lucky collector is going to get this baby! Also as for collectability, this rifle was VERY, VERY special. So special I don't want to post what makes it so special, it is the find of a lifetime!
Beautiful

I was anxiously waiting for this to arrive. WOW!! Almost pristine, 98% of blue present, all matching, sight hood, cleaning rod and no signs of any rough handling or storage. I am so glad I ordered a second one. I can not be any happier with my purchase or speed with which I received it. Definitely going to the range tomorrow!!!
