  • What Is The Difference Between Subsonic And Supersonic Ammunition?

Subsonic ammunition is specifically manufactured, or loaded, to not break the sound barrier. This ammunition's general purpose is to avoid creating a sonic boom, or in ammunition terms, a sonic crack. Subsonic ammunition is designed for the bullet to maintain a speed that does not create that sonic crack. A bullet traveling below the speed of sound simply doesn't make that sound. Any round that propels the bullet at a velocity below the sound barrier is subsonic ammunition.
  • Single Stage Trigger Vs Two Stage Triggers – What's the Difference?

The stock trigger in your AR type rifle probably requires between 5.5-8.5 pounds of force. Upgrading to a much lighter trigger can improve accuracy for new and experienced shooters alike. Aftermarket triggers are becoming more and more popular. but it can sometimes be hard to choose between them.
  • What Kind Of Ammo Does The AK-47 Use?

There is only one answer as to what type of ammunition an AK-47 uses. The answer is 7.62x39mm ammo. Unlike the AR platform rifles, which can use a variety of ammunition based on what it is chambered in, if it is an AK, it uses 7.62x39mm ammunition, period.
  • What Is A Bolt Action Rifle?

So have you got all of your gear together? Are you a new hunter and are trying to select a rifle for your ventures? Let's talk about bolt action rifles and why you need one.
  • What Is Range Ammo?

Everyone already infers that all range ammo should be full metal jacketed ammo (FMJ) and all defense ammo should be jacketed hollow-points (JHP). So, what is my beef with the range ammo subject? It is not the fact that we are more likely to choose FMJ for target practice because we do, it's the opinion of many that we should ONLY use FMJ ammo at the range and JHP for defense.
  • What Does FFL Mean?

Legislation enacted by the 90th United States Congress gave us The Gun Control Act of 1968. The GCA is a United States Federal Law that regulates the firearms industry. The Law includes regulations for buyers, sellers, manufacturers, and firearms owners. However, the main reason that this law was enacted is to regulate interstate commerce of firearms. In short, the GCA affects interstate firearms transfers. In specific, it prohibits interstate firearms transfers except for by licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, and license importers. If you research the history of this Legislation, you will find that it was initiated after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. President Kennedy was killed by a firearm that had been purchased by using a mail-in order form from an advertisement in a magazine. In 1968, the NRA supported this Legislation.
  • Hammer Fired Vs. Striker Fired Pistols - Which Action Is Better?

For the past 20 years or so, the handgun market has been flooded with striker-fired pistols. It started back in the early 1980s with the release of the Glock 17. Because of its popularity, many people think that Glock developed the first striker-fired pistol. Actually, it was H&K. H&K produced a striker-fired, polymer-framed pistol in 1970. The H&K VP70 was revolutionary at the time but it did not have much commercial success. The rise in popularity of the striker-fired pistol began around 1982 with the release of the patented Glock 17. Glock marketed their striker-fired pistol in all of the right ways and to all of the right people. Since then, citizens and law enforcement alike have sung its praises. So while Glock was not the first to come up with the idea, Glock did have the first commercial success with the striker-fired pistol.
  • Are Folding Stocks Legal?

ATF has rescinded the prior methods of measurement of a firearm's overall length when the firearm is equipped with a "stabilizing brace". ATF Guidance for folding stocks is that "stabilizing braces" are merely accessories and are not relevant to the classification of a 'pistol' under the statutory definition. That is, a folding stock on a rifle or shotgun is included in overall length measurements because the firearm must be 'designed or redesigned….and intended to be fired from the shoulder' to be so classified. The stock is therefore an essential element in the statutory definition. I accented the above portion of content because of 2 key parts; shoulder, and essential element. A stock or "stabilizing brace" is an essential component when firing a firearm from the shoulder. A shoulder-fired firearm is what separates a rifle with a folding stock from a pistol. Overall measurements with the folding stock still apply to standard rifle measurements; a rifle barrel should not be less than 16", with an overall length of 26".
  • Which Holster Is Better - IWB or OWB?

The subject matter of this blog asks the question "Which is better, an IWB or an OWB". If you are looking at those letters and scratching your head, unfurl your eyebrows, you already know what they are! IWB are holsters for the inside of a waistband, and OWB are, you guessed it, holsters for outside of the waistband. As far as the question as to which is better; the answer is it depends, either, or both. Depends on how you want to carry and access your firearm, in some cases either one will work for your needs, and one holster is never enough, so why not have both? Let's talk about the function, materials, and benefits for both the IWB and the OWB holsters.
  • AR-15 vs. M-16 vs. M4

The AR-15 vs. the M-16 vs. the M-4. This is a pretty cool topic. Believe it or not, some will argue about which came first. What do you think though? To some of you, you already know the answer, to others, I'm going to tell you the truth according to history. The AR-15 came first. The M-16, a variant of the AR-15, came second, and then the M4, a variant of the M-16, followed up in the mid-1990s. Many characteristics are the same among all three rifles, and for legal reasons, there are a few components that are different. But we can all agree that they were all born from the AR platform.
