VZ2008 from Classic Firearms
Review by Jon on 11/29/2014
Picked this bad boy up in July of 2014. Love it, milled receiver and priced right! Had a bunch fun with it, the only upgrade I would want its to change the stock. Overall, very nice rifle and would be a great alternative for areas where AKs are prohibited.
Excellent rifle...very impressed! AND It's Southpaw friendly!
Review by Scott on 10/4/2014
Ordered on Tuesday, received 2 days later! Thanks Classic! I am really impressed with the quality on this rifle. I have become a fan of Czech-designed firearms lately, and this did not disappoint!

There were a few blems on the carrier cover, but no big deal. Otherwise, superb fit and finish!

It's very lefty friendly. I can work the safety with my thumb, and reach the mag release with my trigger finger. Sling mounting is not lefty friendly as-is, but I have installed barrel-band sling swivels on AK's before to make a lefty friendly sling mount.

The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star rating was the folding mechanism latch. As other reviewers have noted, it was frozen in place. I had to soak it in Kroil and whack it to break it loose. I worked it for a while, put a few drops of Militec 1 on it and worked it some more. It's much better, but sometimes still "freezes"...then all of a sudden works fine. Hopefully just needs to be worked some more.
Great Rifle no a single ftf after more than 3500 round, great price

Fast shipping as allways from Classic Firearms. the best price on the web. love this rifle. Classic have the best prices and Customer Service. Originally issued to the Czech army in 1958, the VZ58 is still in use by both the Czech and Slovak armies, their police and customs agents. Though similar to the other rifles of this style in appearance, the VZ58 uses a completely different bolt and fire control system. Even with a machined receiver, the VZ2008 is lighter than most similarly styled firearms with a sheet metal receiver. Century's semi-auto version features a U.S. made receiver machined out of a bar of premium steel and a quality U.S. made barrel. All metal parts are bead blasted and coated with a non reflective finish. Will not operate with AK 47 mags. Comes with Five 30 rd. mags, Cleaning Kit, and Bayonet.

Barrel: 16.25" with a 1:9.5 twist, Overall: 27" (stock folded), 35.5" (stock extended), Weight: 7 lbs.
Great price, Quality Firearm!
Review by Funderb on 8/23/2014
I picked this guy up while they were on sale for 479, and wow! I love it.
Dead reliable, surprising accuracy. With a little sand papering around the critical moving parts to smooth the finish I've got this thing buttery smooth.
I have some of some simple modifications and other stuff on my youtube video, so check it out if you're thinking of buying one.
Great gun at a solid price

Wanted a side folder but hard to find an AK one without having to buy extra parts. Please see my video for my review of this rifle.
Another A+ from Classic

Classic done did it again. VZ2008 with all the fixins. Lots of mags, Sweet olf pouch, heavy duty pig sticker, and a cleaning kit to boot!, mine may have been in better condition than others have said theirs were... But I'm in love. and will continue to buy from classic!

My favorite rifle I currently own.

I almost gave up on getting a Vz.58 rifle because I waited too long to buy one from Palmetto State Armory. Luckly Classic Firearms received a shipment of these beauties and quickly snatched one up. I ran into a hiccup when I first shot it and after about 40 rounds I got the gremlin trigger which basically means that the trigger doesn't reset and you can't fire it, you also cant take it apart since it's striker fired. So after a few minutes it fixed itself and usually people get tabs welded to the carrier to remedy that or they go get it repaired but I didn't and my Vz has not had a single hiccup since that day and about 400 rounds and counting.

I highly recommend this rifle, it's simple to use, easy to clean (not that necessary) and an absolute blast to shoot (literally)

Great gun
Review by kenneth on 9/29/2015
I ordered on a Friday and had it at my FFL by Wednesday. That is great service by Classic Firearms. It feels solid but is lighter than any AK I have owned. I shot it with cheap steel case ammo. While I have not been able to see how it groups yet I know it shoots better than my AK's as I was able to hit small targets at 100 yards I would just come close to with my AK. I love the bolt hold open after the last round and it feels solid. Gives the feeling of sliding your hand up a beautiful woman's skirt. I want another one or two of these.
A Must Have
Review by Pistol Pete on 9/17/2015
If you love milsurps and AK's this firearm is a must. Perfect fit and finish and VERY light weight. The build quality is world class and a true czech design. The milled receiver is superb. I would highly suggest getting one of these for any collection
If your on the fence about the purchase, don't hesitate!
Review by Tyler on 8/12/2015
After minor adjustments with a sight tool, this rifle is spot on! I put 400 rounds through in one range day, not a single hiccup. In comparison to my other 7.62 rifles (Norinco sks, yugo M70AB2, and Arsenal sam7sf) i'd argue that this rifle is a bit more accurate. The comparison was done at 50yds with cheap tula ammo. I'm surprised by the lightweight feel of the gun and how compact it is. Easiest breakdown ever, pull two pins, and whalla! For the price, fit & finish, and performance...this rifle is a no brainer. Hope this review helps those still mulling it over. This is my 2nd purchase from classic - definitely won't be my last. Thanks for shipping my new favorite rifle guys!
Great Rifle
Review by AK Guy on 8/2/2015
I love the VZ58. The only issue was the "Gremlin" issue. You will fire the rounds and somewhere around the 7th or 12 round, you press the trigger and nothing happens, and then the round goes off.

To fix this, I sent to a VZ58 specialist on the internet. And he welded a tab on the bolt carrier. He does strictly VZ58 and all the VZ58 modifying.

And now the VZ58 shoots fine.

Beyond Belief
Review by Pwdermnkey on 10/15/2014
Well after looking and looking for a 7.62x39mm rifle, comparing the AK's that are available , poor fit and finish, mag wobble, crooked sights, so II did a lot of reading on the Vz 2008. I was a little nervous about the Century made rifles, many bad reviews. Obviously the Internet commandos don't know what they are talking about! I decided that Classic would not sell junk, previously bought a M44 that was Flawless! So I took the plunge and ordered on Monday. Arrived at my ffl on Wednesday. Let just say " Well done!!!" Double boxed! Rifle is PERFECT! Fit and finish look like a commercial rifle at any gun store. All accessories where in Great shape! Folding joint a little stiff, easily fixed with red oil and ball peen. There are on six left! Hurry before they are gone!
Classic is the best
Review by John on 10/12/2014
i want to thank Classic Firearms for their outstanding service. I received the rifle in four business days. The communication on status of shipment was great.
Now the VZ2008. Overall the fit and finish was good. Very little machine marks. A couple of complaints. The butstock would not fold. It was fixed with oil and a rubber hammer. Better too tight than too loose. The next issue is the bolt catch. It does not work. On inspection, it looks like it is worn and there is very little shoulder. Even when manually engaged, it will often slam closed. I have not yet taken it to the range.
This is CAI, not Classic. Classic Firearms will always get my business
New favorite
Review by Chuck on 9/25/2014
This is the second VZ I have owned, and it is my new favorite rifle. The last one had some minor problems, but this one is flawless. I did lighten the trigger pull by bending down slightly on the right leaf of the trigger return spring, it is 5 3/4 lbs now. You will notice the foam pipe insulation I glued to the buttstock, and the UTG recoil pad. These two inexpensive mods make the rifle pure pleasure to shoot.
Great tactical weapon
Review by kcvzguy on 9/21/2014
First off this rifle is a great price. I have owned mine for about 4weeks and i prefer it over an AK my folding stock was tight but some oil and use loosened that up. Cheek welds are very uncomfortable on the folding stock so i wrapped with cobra knot paracord. I sprayed this thing when i got it with rem oil and went straight to the range i set aside 500 rds to put it through its paces within 35 yds im 2 moa standing irons no support. So that is more than acceptable. Be aware that on the 3rd mag of fairly rapid shooting the furniture gets hot, I had to sit it down "no gloves" and let it cool while i ran my m&p 40 pro for awhile. Gun cooled pretty quickly know i was determined to get it to misfeed, jam, fte,or ftf i one handed it held it upside down sideways and limp wristed no problems. I was shooting a mix of tula wolf and red army in FMJ SP &HP no issues at all. I plan to either change the furniture or line the inside of it with header wrap for engines to keep it more usable in high rate fire situations. Mine had no gremlin of the trigger that was something that must have been addressed and fixed by century. my mags were like new but my bayonet will not attach my mag pouch looked like sh*t but i would have never used it anyhow and the sling was to short for me 6'1" 190lb. i plan on also upgrading the muzzle break but mine is right hand thread most AK are Left so might be hard to find. Mags are easy to change and i love how as soon as you pick up the gun you know if the safety is on. This will be my shtf gun along with my m&p if i could only take one this woul be it.
Great Rifle....Get One
Review by surfcityred on 9/2/2014
This is a great rifle for the dollars spent. That is not to imply that there is a compromise in quality because there isn't. It functions perfectly, is quite accurate even with iron sights and is a joy to shoot. I removed the supplied slant brake and changed it for an AK-74 style brake and that made it even more awesome. It is well made and very simple to completely field strip. I prefer the action over an AK. I may buy another because I like it so much.

Great buy came really fast ordered on a Thursday picked it up on Wednesday. Everything was there that they said would be. Took gun out of the box gave it a good once over and made sure everything was functioning properly and lubed up good. Slammed a 100 rds through it 25 shots at a time and not a single issue. Going to restock my ammo and put another 200 through give it a good cleaning and go tear up some junk yard cars with it. Buy one and go have some fun people
Great rifle
Review by Tampabay Dave on 7/31/2014
Been awhile since I purchased it, but I took the rifle to the range today. Was absolutely amazed how accurate it was with iron sights. It's almost on par with the AR. I'm going to install optics to see how it performs with them. I would not have guessed it was this accurate with the grouping and the sights. Bought a second one and will think about another one later.
So Far, So Good
Review by Gary on 7/23/2014
First order received from Classic and to say the least I am impressed. I ordered my VZ on a Tuesday and it was at my local Phoenix FFL ready for pickup the following Monday. The rifle is in great shape and arrived with all the mentioned accessories. The magazine pouch was like new and inside were four magazines still wrapped in plastic. The fifth mag was in the box along with the other items. Looking forward to taking it out for a "spin" as soon as it "cools"down a bit. Will post a follow up to this review and hopefully some video. Thanks Classic for the great service and looking forward to receiving my next order soon.
Classic trigger failure but Classic did right by me when I returned it.
Review by arthruthedented on 7/12/2014
The VERY short version is that the particular rifle shipped to me had the classic Trigger Failure "Gremlin" associated with this design among other problems
BUT Classic Firearms had done right by me and gave a full refund.. easy to get to on the phone, and you talk to someone who knows their stock and can get you taken care of... I may never shop anywhere else online for guns after this.

Lets start by saying its a BEAUTIFUL gun.. the ergonomics are dead perfect for me.. it's light and handy , points perfectly and gives a great sight picture.
It was a perfect fit. The folding stock doesn't get in the way of either the action or the trigger at all when folded .. worked exactly as it should and was again, a perfect fit on my shoulder.

The selector switch is brilliantly positioned so that a right hand shooter will feel it on their finger when its engaged. The machining looked and felt perfectly fitted and beautifully done. and its LIGHT and SMALL compared to an AK... had a nice Yugo AK to hand to compare and it made me like this gun even more... With the leather mag pouch and extra mags and bayonet that slips right on and off easily (odd arrangement.. you push it on FORWARD to lock it in place unlike most where you have to put your hands up past the muzzle..again, well thought out and well made.)

And then I tried to load it with dummy rounds and snap caps and had to assist the bolt group going forward to get it to load. tried that a few times but either the packing grease was REALLY sticky on this one or the springs were really weak... either way it wouldn't feed when you released the bolt UNLESS you manually assisted it by pushing the bolt forward. I haven't heard or seen that on any of the reviews So I THINK its just weak springs and this particular rifle.

and then the classic selector switch related trigger failure happened...and you can't disassemble to check it without getting the trigger engaged so you are pretty much hosed at that point.

When Century arms modified the original CZ58 design's three position selector switch from "Safe/Semi/Automatic" to a two position 'Safe/fire' switch..they screwed something up either in the design of how they did it or in the tolerances of the parts because I cannot imagine any army would field even as beautiful a weapon as this with such a fatal fail point.

SO.. its gone back.. I've been shopping for a geniune AK ..but to touch the quality of this piece I'd have to more than double the price... On Monday I'll decide if I'm going to order another one , but even though I've seen them cheaper now elsewhere..if I order it will be through Classic

(the ONLY possible short point on the Classic arms side was that unless the box was opened and searched in transit then the ..which is very possible, then the item was not well packed. the fore sight had torn through the box and the barrel was literally sticking out the side when I picked it up.. the cleaning kit was scattered throughout the box instead of in the canvas pouch it should have come in and box itself felt like it might have been... down this road more than once ... that 'not stiff' feeling cardboard gets when its about due to fail. Heres hoping I can give utterly unmixed praises on my next order)
Sweet gun
Review by Andy on 7/11/2014
Just got mine, and it is a perfect rifle. Light weight and very easy to handle. Little mix up as I did not receive the 4 other mags as promised, but the customer service made it right after a phone call. Got the mags in about 4 days. Mag pouch was completely shot and unserviceable and was tossed out, but I have plenty of pouches, so it was not an issue.
Great rifle so far.
Review by doublegunner on 6/4/2014
I've owned my VZ 2008 for about 3 weeks now and I have about 200 rounds through it. First shot out of the box after a simple cleaning was a bulls eye from 25 m with sand bags. It is much more accurate than my AK and I think with better sights would rival my AR at short yardage. So far no failures of any kind. Only complaint is the folding stock is bear to release. If not for this I would rate a 5.
Couldn't have asked for better
Review by Tanner on 5/17/2014
I ordered this rifle while on the search for a sporting rifle for a great deal. The price is at least $150 cheaper that I could find anywhere at a local gun store. When ordering, Classic's friendly staff was extremely helpful, and the rifle was delivered quicker than I had expected. Everything advertised was delivered and was in great condition. The rifle itself is great. A nice even finished, and crisp trigger pull, and very accurate sights. The folding stock can be a tad stiff at first, but some oil and some elbow grease gets it opening like a champ in no time. It comes highly recommended!
Very Good Rifle Excellent Value
Review by gyr on 5/8/2014
Very satisfied with this rifle and its accessories.

First time buy from Classic Firearms and I can't say enough good things about the Classic Firearms team. Phoned in the order late Tuesday afternoon, shipped Wednesday morning and the rifle arrived at my FFL Friday around noon. They really do go the extra mile.

First the accessories:
Bayonet in very good condition. Sheath used but in good clean condition.
4-cell maganizine pouch obviously used but serviceable and fairly clean.
Magazines (5) Three of the magazines were in good used condition. The other two were servicable but appeared very well used and had floorplates that were incorrectly installed. It should be noted that all (5) magazines fit with very little wobble and functioned perfectly.
Cleaning kit complete (2-section rod,oil container w/oil, bore brush, patch holder tip, muzzle protector, tool with unknown function and a pouch. Pouch was dirty, gritty and smelled like used motor oil. Contents were clean and wrapped in brown waxed paper.
Sling was serviceable but looked and smelled like it it had been used to wipe motor oil from a garage floor. Also had a piercing near the buckle end. I cleaned the sling as well as possible and repurposed
it as a shoulder strap for the magazine pouch with the aid of a couple of locally purchased D-rings. The rifle will be wearing a new H&K leather sling if I need a sling at all.
Now on to the rifle itself:
The wood-impregnated furniture was clean and free of nicks , gouges and scratches. Looked brand new. Some may not like its appearance but it seems to be functional and durable.
The rifle was clean inside and out . No metal shavings. No cosmoline. No lubricant of any kind (I'll get to this later). Only tool marks I saw were some minor milling machine marks on the outer angles of the bolt carrier. Nothing objectionable
All, and I mean all, of the metal parts of the rifle (except the bolt and locking piece) are covered with a uniform black phosphate coating or perhaps its parkerizing. I can't tell which. And this coating is the apparent cause of the very few issues I had with this rifle.
First was the very tight pushbutton release on the folding stock. I took it apart and cleaned a quantity of black flaky material from the pin. Lubed and reassembled with a drop of PB blaster and the problem disappeared.
Both the receiver cover retaining pin and the upper handguard retaining pin needed some mechanical persuasion and some ballistol before they would function easily.
The bayonet would not fit on the bayonet lug. Apparantly because both the bayonet mounting groove and the lug had been covered with the black phosphate coating. I used a fine warding file to remove some of the coating from the leading end of the bayonet's mounting groove. Now the bayonet mounts easily and locks firmly in place.
The last of these issues concerns the front sight assy. Both the windage drum and the elevation pin are frozen in place. As in adjustment-tool-breaking frozen! I suspect that the phosphate coating or parkerization has something to do with this. I've been working on this with PB blaster and Kroil for over a week now without success. I've ordered a heavy duty sight adjustment tool and will keep working on this. But I'm not going to damage the sight assy to make a minor sight adjustment. As it stands now the P.O.I. is approx. 4 in. to the left and 2in. high at 75 yds. If I have to, I can learn to live with this.
I can't help feeling that the judicious use of a good penetrating lubricant would have reduced or eliminated these issues. I have read that others have had functional problems with these rifles that disappeared when they were lubricated.
Since my rifle will mostly be used in a high humidity area , I've applied a light coating of Barricade on all interior parts and used Rig on the externals.
Only other issue is the trigger pull weight. Its some where north of 8 pounds. I don't have a triggerpull weight gauge but I can hang the loaded rifle by its trigger and it won't trip. This is the reason I gave this rifle a four-star rating rather than a five star. I've read that this may have something to do with the two-feather trigger spring that Century uses. I'll need to do some more research and proceed slowly in addressing this issue. I don't want to invoke the dreaded vz2008 "Gremlin".
I've put about 160 rounds thru this rifle so far. Not that much but enough to function -check the rifle's action and the magazines.
Had absolutely no FTF's or FTE's using Russian HP ammo. As has been noted , the sights were a bit off but still close enough to appraise accuracy. Using the rifle's open sights five-shot groups averaged 1 1/4" at both fifty and seventy-five yds. I only shot one group at 100 yds and that measured 3 3/8" I feel that is more than acceptable accuracy for this type of rifle. Especially considering the heavy trigger pull. The lower hanguard did get quite hot after the second magazine of rapid fire. I found myself gripping the front of the magazine rather than the lower handguard. Ejection was very positive. Casings were thrown to the right front. Recoil was surprisingly light even with the factory slant brake. I did wrap the folding stock with paracord to ease the impact on my cheek. That worked very well.
I am very pleased with this rifle's performance. I'll be going back to the range for more testing once I resolve the frozen sight and trigger pull issues.
Overall I consider this a very good rifle. Its accurate, reliable, lightweight, easy to field strip and maintain. Looks to be quite durable also but time will tell. Anyway, I like it enough that I'll be ordering some more magazines for it and something to carry them in.
This package represents an extremely good value for the money. And you won't get better service than Classic Firearms
Best deal today
Review by MordecuS on 5/2/2014
To buy a decent AK-47 today, you're looking at $550. These usually come with one mag, maybe two, and even then, one is likely a surplus and the other a cruddy Tapco. Ignoring the bayonet and mag pouch, you get the rifle and FIVE 30-round magazines with the vz2008.

I've had mine for about a month at this point and have put exactly 14 mags through it and have yet to have a single issue. That's 420 rounds of the awesome 7.62x39.

Century ships these dry. Sahara dry. I took an evening and rubbed it with some oil, letting it soak it a little before rubbing it all off.

My only complaint is something that can easily be remedied. The folding stock is almost impossible to operate. Some have had luck with theirs but I fell into the category of owners who did not. I oiled it up, let us sit overnight and then disengaged the stock's button. I then folded it back and forth for about 40 minutes... count unknown but easily 600 plus. I then smacked the button with a rubber mallet about 200 times to help loosen it up further.

While you can try to disassemble the stock, just oil it up and bang around on it for an evening and you should have an easily functioning stock on your fantastic vz2008.

I will continue to buy from Classic. Their prices are always competitive and their customer service is the best I've ever encountered when buying a firearm.

Great gun at an amazing deal.

My new vz 2008 is awesome! I've only owned sks and ar's as far as assault rifles but the vz is my favorite. Classic firearms was fast and the best price I could find with the extra mags. The furniture is ugly but can be painted if you use a hi temp paint and cure it properly. Add a muzzle brake from cnc warrior and a fab defense replacement handle and its a rockin' little beast of a machine! The rear sights could be better, mine are kind of sticky when squeezing them to move the yardage it's hard to tell its in the grove. That's the only reason for the 4 star rating. The most important thing is to know it kicks like a donkey until you get the muzzle brake, so save your cheek the first trip out and go to lowes, get some pipe insulation to put on the folder stock with tennis racket or camo removable (the kind that sticks to itself) tape.

A sturdy rifle with 5 mags? Can't beat a deal like that! I bought this a couple months back and I've finally had a chance to test it out. This thing is a blast to shoot and it is spot on accurate right out of the box. There are a few minor issues but hopefully I can get them worked out with a little bit of research. Of the 5 30 round mags one mag holds 24. No big deal. The bakelite furniture on the top handguard above the gas piston seems to either be loose or put on backwards as it rotates loosely right or left but does not hinder the operation of the weapon in any way. After putting a couple hundred rounds through it I noticed that I get about 2 light primer strikes per mag with wolf poly. These rounds always go off with a second try. That being said this rifle is very accurate and a great bargain. Classic Firearms has been wonderful to deal with, ships quick, and I appreciate it.
Pure awesomeness.
Review by Minuteman on 4/11/2014
First and foremost, I want to thank Amber at Classic for a wonderful customer service experience. It's hard to get a good customer service rep that is very polite and patient like she was. I feel a lot more comfortable calling in instead of doing online orders now. As for handling time, I ordered this rifle on the 3rd of April, and the 10th it arrived at my FFL. Not the fastest but I suppose that's okay. When I received the rifle, the box the rifle came in had a giant hole with the front sight popping out of it. This is not the first time I have had them ship a box like that. My Mosin hex came with the bolt handle poking out. So I hope they improve their packaging next time even if they do come prepacked. It would be nice. Over all a 4 out of 5 on Classic's part.

Now on to the rifle and accessories.

The bayonet looks brand new and of course they don't come sharp because god knows if I order a gun, I can't have a sharp object. The handle came a little loose on it I don't know why but the wood/plastic handle jiggles a little bit. No big deal. It doesn't fit my rifle I guess because I need to do some filing on the bayonet or lug. Which I really don't want to mar the hell out of my rifle so I might file down the bayonet slot. All and all, the bayonet's condition is Very Good/Excellent. The sheath for it is in awesome shape. Couldn't have asked for better.

The mag pouch has been broken in and worn many many times but it does what it's supposed to do. As for the 5 magazines, they are all flawless except one is missing a spring plate. So there's a mag well, spring, follower, and floor plate, but no spring plate to catch the floor plate. I'm not extremely worried about it, but I'll have to spend more money buying something that should have been there. The cosmetics of the mags are Good/Very good. There is some missing bluing or paint whatever they use here and there on a few but they seem to work great. Even the one with out the spring plate.

The sling and the cleaning kit are I'd say good condition. The sling has definitely been used and very worn looking but it doesn't have any flaws and looks awesome. It makes the rifle nice and easy to stow over your shoulder. My cleaning kit came with a strange looking punch, a screw together cleaning rod, oiler bottle, and a decent brush. I will probably use it once or twice then get a better brush. I have read the kits are usually hit or miss with getting all the parts. I think I lucked out.

Last but of course not the least, the rifle. I am wowed. This rifle is exactly what I expected and more. It is nice and compact, heavy duty but light, quality built, and very comfortable. I was a little worried that I wouldn't like the side folding stock but I actually really dig the look and the feel of it. I ordered a matching fixed stock from the Czech republic anyway just in case later, I want to see how she does with that. Unfortunately I haven't got a chance to shoot it since I just got it yesterday, but this gun feels amazing. Cosmetically, I will start with the handle and the grips. They came a little grimy but, after hitting them with some Ballistol and a rag, they cleaned up beautifully. The handle grip isn't as small and dainty as I thought it would be either. I have pretty large hands and the grip feels pretty snuggly. I love the look of the wood/plastic. It's got a rich burgundy red color and it seems very very durable. The receiver and the internal parts are all built like a tank. It's like having the best mix between and AK and an SKS with a little feel of a Gewehr 43 in there somewhere. The bluing on the entire rifle is a nice dark black and perfect all around with one exception to the front sight. There's a little spot on it maybe from the shipping. When I rack this thing, I can feel quality. Century did a wonderful job on bringing this beautiful surplus firearm to life. Fit and finish is superb. I was half thinking of ordering a second one but I went ahead and ordered a Sino-Soviet SKS instead. The trigger pull is pretty nice. It's not a Tapco G2, but it is a pretty crisp 5 pounds or so. I will hopefully have another review of a range test and some pictures up soon. Condition of the rifle I'd say is excellent.

I hope I gave you a pretty good idea of what this rifle package is and what you should expect. Personally, I would have probably bought this package deal at around 650-700 dollars. I hope Century keeps manufacturing these awesome firearms. Thanks for reading.

Overall...satisfied

I've always been completely satisfied with my purchases from Classic. The VZ2008 looks like it's going to be a fun shooter. Like other comments, the stock would not fold, had to mess with it for a while. The hinge pin was rough and it took some sanding with emory cloth to get it working. Putting the bayonet on the rifle is not what you'd want to do in combat. Almost need a rummer mallet to knock it on. Once on, have to put the point on a solid object and push to get it off. That's probably why the point looks like it had pretty rough treatment. All said, I'm pleased
Great product

Classic Firearms is a pleasure to do business with.Good communication and fast service. Love the VZ2008.
I love it

This rifle is lighter than an AK 47, and though it looks like one it isn't. The short stroke piston design looks to be most excellent, and while I prefer AMERICAN made everything, this gun is better than most no matter where they are built. I know this was built in a former Soviet satelite country, but it is not Russian and that suites me fine.
love this gun

Classic was quick to get this to my FFL, and the morning after pickup, I was in a secluded field and firing this gem. Nice smooth action, very little recoil as compared to its AK47 peers. Folding action was a little stiff, but some working back and forth and a little lubricant freed that right up.
Only had time to put one mag through it, but if fired beautifully and chewed up some russian surplus ammo without problem and no failures. This is my new favorite long gun! Thanks Classic!
First purchase from Classic
Review by Jon on 3/31/2014
So glad I took the plunge on this rifle. I'm glad that my first purchase from Classic was a total win. The only area that needed attention was the gritty push-button in the folding stock. I found that a good pair of pliers and a lefty-loosey turns took it down so I could clean and lube the pin. Now the button and stock will fly open and closed. Now it works so well I have to slow it down. Accuracy, it has great practical accuracy. It held a good group up close. At 300 meters even with iron sights, it did a great job of smacking a 2x2 foot plate consistently. Any misses were totally shooter error, the rifle was very consistent. Easily over 150 rounds through it with no hiccups or issues at all. Only mod I made was painting the front sight bright lime green to make it faster to pick up. Thanks Classic.
Great value

Love this package. Magazines were in perfect condition along with the leather pouch and the spring. sights needed adjusting but are great. only thing I didn't like was the finish applied makes the sights and folding stock stick. applied some CLP and loosened up after flushing a bunch of black powder(finish) out. button on stock still sticks a bit but works great and for the price of this gun one cannot complain.
Excellent but...

This VZ 2008 is a wicked piece of weaponry, fit and finish was very good and surprisingly shot fairly accurately out of the box post a simple clean up and lubrication. This is my second, the first, not purchased from Classic had pin fitment problems that only Cenutry's gunsmith could fix. This VZ will only occasionaly hold the bolt open which I initially thought was a bum magazine deal but no, it's occurred with all of the 5 magazines supplied and this one will be going back to Century as well. The other think was the bayonet, EXTREMELY rough, in fact, looked like it was drub behind a tank and trampled by the Czech army. Oddly, I am half tempted to buy one more to see if 3 really could be my charm, especially after reading all the positive reviews, I'm batting 100% with the problem factor.
Great Rifle

4 of the 5 mags were brand new. Cleaned and shot this today. Excellent rifle. Cleaning kit had a few missing parts, no big deal. Shipping was fantastic. My bayonet was rough but no big deal. I dont think the accessories I want are to much. New furniture and suppressor are about it.
Couldnt be happier with this purchase.
Top Notch
Review by Eddie S on 3/14/2014
Very nice. Fit, finish , and function are top notch. The Czechs designed an awesome weapon here, and two thumbs up to Century Arms for their work also. I sold an AR to get this gun, and an AK may be next to get another. Aftermarket mods are scarce and expensive, but , in my opinion, are not needed on this little jewel!!
excellent

Received it last weekend. Haven't got to shoot it yet. But it looks great and is very well built. Best package deal out there.
Great rifle package with superb service
Review by steve b on 3/5/2014
First off, classic as always provides top notch service with extremely competitive pricing on all of their items. Thank you again.

Secondly, the rifle:

The VZ2008 sporter by CIA, out of box has a even, dark, well applied finish. The fit is tight and straight. No signs of any so called century assembly issues (which are almost non existent in any of the newer CIA guns I've seen)

As for the design and feel, expect a streamlined super light version of hybrid AK. Completely different design internally and in my opinion superior. My only complaints about this rifle is that the sling mounts are rather flimsy and I doubt they would tolerate much field use, and the "beaver puke" furniture is pretty ugly and gets hot fast. The proprietary magazines are a non issue for me, they are better made, lighter and you get 5 with the gun! Overall this is amazing for the price, if your debating it just buy one!

Outstanding but...

Great gun, great value and great service but a few things to know about this very capable carbine that aren't so easy to see.
Accessories are few, far between and pricey. If you are hoping to trick out your VZ-2008 with aftermarket furniture be prepared to pay for it and count on them requiring extensive modification to get them to fit. A good rotary tool is a must.
WARNING: If you choose to swap out the pistol grip be VERY careful. The nut that secures it to the receiver is not welded and only held in by the trigger/safety spring. If that nut comes out of place it is a bear to get it back in. Make sure the gun is on Safe and you press down on the springs to hold the nut firmly in place while attaching the new grip. Its one of those 3 handed jobs but I managed to get it on after much effort to get the nut reseated.
WARNING 2: Most everyone I know with this model has had the same issue with the folding stock retaining screw coming loose and this one is no exception. Before shooting it is recommended to remove, clean and re-seat the screw using your favorite thread locking compound to ensure this doesn't happen to you.
Overall this little lightweight carbine is a must have and a great shooter. Iron sights are point of aim at 85 yards right out of the box and the trigger pulls a crisp 5.4 pounds consistently.
Will be buying another one as soon as I scrounge up the funds. Get yours before these dry up or the price goes up again.
Classic Look from Classic
Review by Mike on 2/11/2014
What an awesome rifle with great accessories for a great price. A classic look (surplus furniture, bayonet) with a new U.S. made receiver and barrel. . . . best of both worlds. Shoots great (once I figured that the Century Arms safety flips toward the rear).
Very pleased with order!!

Friends: I own this VZ2008 side folding model with eight magazines. The fit and finish is flawless and the magazines are gloss grey and lightweight. It is a full pound lighter than any other military style rifle that I own. The import semi auto CZ VZ 58 from Czech point is not allowed to have a bayonet lug and the neat little bayonet is nice to have. The Czech people are clever engineers and it shows in this design. Classic Firearms is offering you a first class ,lightweight rifle for the price of a pocket pistol.
awesome rifle

Was weary at first being from century arms but boy was I wrong. This gun is amazing, even more so than my milled reciever arsenal. Fit and finish were great. Thanks classic, will buy another soon.
