Fix it Friday Yugo M48A
Review by Kenneth on 10/19/2016
So I went for the broken M48A Mauser. I got it so I would have one to shoot and to take apart. For the price it was good since I just needed to fix the bolt. But I will say from the recent ones I feel a little ripped off. Mine had a broken bolt handle and safety. It sold for $219. The recent fix it Friday had a few with one with a missing bolt lock spring I believe, went for $175. From what I found that is a cheap piece. Enough rambling I received an excellent gun and hope to get the bolt this week to finally fire this rifle. My advice make sure the firearm you see is what you want and is fixable. If the price isn't fair to you wait there may be a cheaper one with less/easier problems (my case).
Great rifle. Cleans up real nice, but it needs alot of cleaning.

Excellent rifle. Graded very conservatively. Soaked in creosote, but cleans up very nicely. Love the bolt action and crisp trigger. This is definitely an excellent Mauser type rifle. Like it better than the 1903.

I have wanted a K98, and when I came across this "modern" version, I knew it was the perfect opportunity. This was my latest purchase from the great people at Classic. As always, the grading was very fair, if not a bit conservative. One thing was certainly true, this beast was soaked with creosote. I bought a jug of mineral spirits and had to resort to using other solvents to allow me to take apart all the components. I just let the metal parts soak in mineral spirits, then did a lot of picking and swabbing. The hardest part was removing the front band, but I found a tip on how to use a wood block and a clamp, which did the trick. The worst place for creosote turned out to be the channel for the cleaning rod. What a bear to clean out. The wood stock was worn but in good shape with no cracks and only minor wear and scrapes, as could be expected. I did not refinish it, but did put on some restorative beeswax/polish to add some moisture back into the wood. The barrel was bright and the muzzle clean and smooth. The nice thing about this rifle, and most all bolt action rifles, is that the barrel allows for running the cleaning rod straight through, and it needed it. After cleaning and drying, lightly oiled, the bolt operates smooth and silky. The trigger is crisp as well. Much better than my "new" 1903 even. I have not yet fired it, but expect to have much fun on the range with this modern Mauser.
Turned out good

good price on old gun
Great find.

When I went to order my M48 there was only 6 left in stock and all 6 that were left had the receivers drilled for scope mounts. I was real hesitant in ordering this rifle due to poor reviews alot of these received with scared receivers and huge holes drilled for scopes. I ordered anyways and im glad i did. The wood on the one sent to me is in pristine condition, no cracks, no dents or dings anywhere on the stock, infact it almost looks new. The bluing is in MINT condition and the receiver holes drilled for a scope were done correctly and look really nice. Over all I rate this a five stars shipping included and the gun itself is in pristine condition.
Good

This rifle is in great shape. Minor damage to stock (around the buttplate) but no cracks. All numbers match except the bolt. I ordered one that was drilled for a scope, but unfortunately one hole was drilled through the crest which I guess can't be helped. If I could find a scope mount that fits, it will be covered anyway. Classic has the fastest delivery times. I will order again.
Very Nice M-48BO
Review by Benjamin on 7/18/2013
Received My Yugo today and I'm very happy! Caution to those expecting to get a m-48 with a beautiful Yugo crest, the one I received is an M-48BO. To the best of my understanding the BO means "no markings". Although as far as my research has told me this in itself is a bit of a rarity. Has what appears to be a walnut stock since its dark wood all the way through. Very nice shape and an interesting piece of history. Thanks Classic Arms!
Very Disappointed
Review by Flash on 4/25/2013
I was so happy with my first 48A I got a second, what a disappointment this gun was. First the positives...Very prompt shipping of item, had the sight hood and cleaning rod, there it ends. Hand guard and stock a total mismatch, no matching parts, the stock had large letters carved into it, the upper receiver areas above the bolt were ground down, obliterating the Yugo crest, it appears someone "attempted" to mount a scope on this a did a very poor job as there are two sets of mismatched holes. Out of dozens of orders place with Classic on my C&R, this is the very first time I have not given a product 5 stars. Although the action of the rifle appears very smooth and tight, I will probably not shoot this as it would be embarrassing to me to show up to the range with. Personally, This was at $200 rifle at best and I could probably not get that for it if I tried to sell it. Although disappointed, I will continue to deal with Classic as they have been wonderful to date, with this one exception, but dealing with surplus, I guess you have to expect this to happen some times.
Good, but.

Rifle was shipped fast. Wood stock was not pretty, gouges, big dents etc. Hand guard was cracked big time and was an attempt to be repaired at the depot with a slice of wood and glue that did not hold. I believe it was repairable and a buddy on mine with wood experience was going to repair it. Blue was not bad at about 80% left. Bore was nice. I took apart the bolt and the firing pin was broken/missing the tip. My research showed none available for replacement I was going to keep it, but the unavailability of parts dictate otherwise. Quick call to Classic Arms and I had a RMA in minutes. So the rifle was returned for exchange and should be by tomorrow in NC. Will post as soon as I get the replacement. Kudos for an excellent customer service.
Be Still My Beating Heart!!!
Review by Middle Man on 4/19/2013
We used to get these in bulk from Century years ago, these are the first one's I've seen offered in some time. As I pulled it out of the box I had heart failure, it looked to be in unissued condition and completely matching, bolt, receiver, floor plate, and stock. With only a very few handling marks, new blueing, and a bore that shows nothing but shine. In fact the bore was so bright I swear I saw Marshal Tito looking back with a smile. Some lucky collector is going to get this baby! Also as for collectability, this rifle was VERY, VERY special. So special I don't want to post what makes it so special, it is the find of a lifetime!
Beautiful
Review by Flash on 4/17/2013
I was anxiously waiting for this to arrive. WOW!! Almost pristine, 98% of blue present, all matching, sight hood, cleaning rod and no signs of any rough handling or storage. I am so glad I ordered a second one. I can not be any happier with my purchase or speed with which I received it. Definitely going to the range tomorrow!!!
