Hello all,

This Swiss rifle more than met my expectations. The bore is shiny and clean, all the serials w. inspection marks are matching and it came with the original 1926 sling. The soldiers name to whom this was issued in 1926 is under the butt plate, in addition this rifle was taken home by that soldier when he left the Swiss military. This could explain the great condition.

After unboxing I used mineral spirits and fine steel wool to treat the wood, then protected it with beezewax. I brought the leather back to life as well, it feels great in the hand. I cleaned all the old grease out and polished the bolt.

Can't wait to shoot it. Another great purchase from Classic Firearms.

Thank you Classic Firearms for sending me an all numbers matching Swiss K11 Carbine. It has a little rust on the butt plate but that is literally it! This rifle is beautiful! I honestly can't wait until they come back in, because I may just have to pick up another. These rifles are the greatest mil surp, they are very accurate and usually have pretty decent bores. I won't go into detail but, a little research will help you understand. Again, thanks to Classic Firearms!

Satisfied with the purchase, however the way they shipped it is a slight problem. With the bolt detached and placed next to the wood caused an imprint on the stock. Not enough bubble wrap was used. Other than that, I have no issues.

All I can say is wow. This riffle is beautiful, the blueing was amazing, only some slight wear on the rear of the receiver. The wood looked amazing, it came with a very nice reddish brown stock with some minor dings but none of the water damage the guns sometimes have. The marking were all crisp and very legible, I had a lot of fun looking up my rifles date of manufacture. All in all a beautiful firearm, sold at much lower than it's true value. This gun is 88 years old, and it is beautiful, I am very happy with classic firearms, please keep up the good work.

I watched your review I have purchased three SKS's sorry they were from another dealer but the Tula somebody did try to refinish and as you said they sanded to much you still can see the Tula Star it does have factory repair which is very well done. As far as your sling the leather pouches and slings I use Ballistol on the leather if it is really old apply a few coats. I also use it on the wood on the two Yugo M59's these were bought at my local store everything matched even the part numbers the wood is in my opinion almost perfect. I just put a coat on the one Yugo made in 1964 the other in 1966.So if you want to try Ballistol it is your decision but it is a natural preservative for wood and leather. i want a second one, 1 very clean keep 2 a shooter, amazing trigger for a military both k11 and k31 much nicer trigger than mu m14 or m1 carbine,my carbine was new from dcm in the 60s and the trigger is typical 2 stage creep king,since 100% original have no plans to improve . Ig a great k31 becomes available I will grab .

Payed for hand select and as usual was not disappointed. I have bought many guns and extras from classic and they always come through. This rifle was made in 1921 and is in great condition. Was on the wait list for a long time when these showed up. Bought this and a K31, both were excellent purchases. Don't hesitate when these come back around!!

My Swiss saga

I have been watching the Swiss guns come and go on this site for years and have always said "One of these days..." Well that day was last fall when I finally bought an 1896/11. To say it was/is awesome is not fair and I have been kicking myself ever since for not diving in when these things were more plentiful.
Fast forward to last week when I got home early and found an email about 31's and 11's in limited supply. After jumping back and forth between one and then the other (If I had the bucks both was a no brainer0 I decided on a 1911
well my 1911 showed up today and boy did I do good!!! She looked a little grimey out of the box and had a whole lot of gnarly looking surface rust. Turns out all she needed was a good cleaning. Most of the surface rust came off with a soft rag and gun oil and the rest was easily removed with a few strokes of steel wool. Stock has beautiful grain with the expected dings, but thanks to Global warming going on up here in Tennessee I was able to crack off enough rounds to know that she will be a really sweet shooter as soon as I get used to the sights.
Finally, in the lucky dog department, it came with a sling, troop tag (Thanks Adolph Schumacher for taking such good care of her for me!) And a bonus muzzle cover. all I can say is I am officially hooked C'mon Classic you gotta satisfy my craving for another K31 offering!!!.

The rifle had rust in numerous places, including ;the a number of places on the receiver, bolt handle, and front sight. I did pay for hand select, but I guess the majority had sold before I placed my order because this rifle is in much worse condition than the rifles shown in the video. It also didn't have a sling or muzzle cap. I guess I just have bad luck!

However, the stock isn't cracked, the bore is excellent (as I expected based on my K31 and M1911) and the rust was able to be removed with a brass brush and oil. What saved this rifle from being a real disappointment is that it had a troop tag under the butt plate. Neither of my other Swiss rifles had troop tags. This one did and that was very exciting to me! He was born in 1915 and issued this K11 which was manufactured in 1933, so he was 18 entering the service and being issued this rifle.

Saw the ad in the email, and quickly bought a K11 (no hand select) The rifle I got was excellent, only 2 small dings in the stock. All numbers matching, and had matching troop tag, sling and muzzle cap were included. Strong rifling, and no excess cosmoline to clean off. Action is smooth, and the two stage trigger is amazing for a surplus rifle of this age. I sure hope they keep getting milsurps in stock. I won't hesitate to order from them again.

This is my first Swiss firearm that I've purchase and was excited to pick it up from my dealer. However, when I opened my package, the condition of my rifle was not as great as I expected. There was rust on the top receiver, magazine, buttplate, barrel bands, sling swivels, trigger, and trigger guard. The wood stock is fairly rough but not too bad. I've paid for the hand select option so I thought my rifle would be in better condition, but that wasn't the case. Overall, I'm fairly happy and I'll clean her up the best I can.

I've always wanted a Swiss rifle but couldn't decide on which to get first. When I saw the video on the ones with matching bayonets I figured I'd go for the k1911 since the k31s would probably be gone in a couple of seconds. Overall the rifle is nice everything works just need to get a Swiss bayonet frog to complete the kit. The reason for 4 stars is because mine shipped with the front site blade missing and everywhere is sold out. So I can't range test it yet but if/when I get one and sight it in hopefully it'll be accurate as I have never messed with surplus sights before. I'll message CF to see if it had just maybe fell out somewhere but I assume not since these should be in there tight. Classic shipped the rifle fast with no hassle. Still will buy from them.

Although the K31 IS A NEWER RIFLE OR CARBINE AS THE CASE MAY BE,FOR SOME REASON I LIKE THE K11.JUST LOOK AT THE BOLTS AND COMPARE,THE K11 IS HEAVIER AND THE TANG LESS LIKELY TO FAIL ALTHOUGH MY K31 HAS NO SIGN OF DOING SO.REMEMBER THIS IS A PERSONAL OPINION NOT A JUDGEMENT,BUT I JUST LIKE THE FEEL OF THE THING. From what I understand, these rifles were often issued once, then taken care of and used by that person for much of their life. This rifle has strong evidence of heavy use, but was obviously well taken care off. Pitting isn't a problem. The blueing is well worn on the receiver, but that's to be expected after 70+ years of likely use. I recently fired it for the first time. Very powerful. Very accurate. I've fallen in love with the patina and feel of this rifle. I decided to steam the stock and refinish it. I'll post pictures once its done. Good purchase from Classicfirearms.

I just picked up my K1911 Carbine from my FFL dealer. I was shocked when I removed the shipping paper and bubble wrap. This rifle looked brand new. The wood was in fantastic shape: no splits, cracks, or dents. The bore was absolutely pristine. The extra money I spent on hand select really paid off. If this 1927 carbine ever saw active duty it must have been issued to a rear echelon payroll clerk who never fired it. What a find! Now for some trigger time...

Got my K11 about 2 weeks ago and finally had a chance to take it out and shoot it this past weekend. The over all condition of the metal was excellent with almost no metal pitting on the exterior. The finish was only about 60%. Did a little touch up with some cold blue and it looked pretty good. The stock was free from cracks but had some dents and little chips. Overall the stock was fairly good for a Swiss rifle with the exception of a hole drilled in the stock and one in the forend. The hole in the forend had been filled. The only big dissapointment was the firing pin had either been cut off at the end or was broke but in any event when I went to go shoot...just click. So I got a new made firing pin coming from firingpin.com...I think a good $30 investment for the rifle. Once I get it it will be off to the range to shoot it. Oh before I forget, the bore looked like it was new. I just ran a bore snake thru it and it shined more than new production rifles.

Just recieved my K11 carbine and am very pleased with its condition. Wood has some minor dings but no cracks. Metal is very good with some bluing wear on edges. Action is nice and tight. Bore is bright with strong lands and grooves and crown is intact. Haven't looked under butt plate yet. Plus it came with sling. Serial # is 1917 mfg. This is my third milsurp from Classic, and hopefully will cure my milsurpitis! Hand select was not available, but it looks hand selected. Good stuff!!!

Once again Classic offers me more than what I could of hoped to get. Every aspect of this K11 is well above "good" condition in my opinion. A few bruises from working for a living were expected but I was amazed how few small dents there actually were. A slight tiger stripe visible threw out the stock and the bolt was nice and shiny with a brand new extractor and a bolt face that looks like its never fired a round. The bore was bright and shiny as well but you can tell that this gun has fired its fair share of rounds and taken care of. If this keeps up I will need to get a bigger safe. =) I have now been diagnosed with a bad case of surplus-itus with no cure in sight.

I didn't pay hand select either. The K1911 had no sling but has a sight protector. The stock looks new, the mag and receiver have no finish missing. All finish is 99%. All numbers match and "like new" barrel is accurate. It's also fun to shoot.

If you own a K31 you NEED to buy one of these. While similar to the K31, the K11 has a completely different feel, lighter and more streamlined. If you do your research the K11's have much more history than the K31's. The one I received was actually a K11 converted from a Swiss 1905 Carbine by the swiss in 1916. It is in great shape and included the sling and troop tag even though it was just a standard grade.

Excellent service from Classic as always, highly recommended.

Was not expecting the rifle to be this nice. The stock had one small ding / paint transfer, that has already been buffed out .Absolutely no beaver chew or bad stock damage usually associated with Swiss rifles, just the normal wear of a 100 year old rifle. Mine is 1916 vintage. I would put the bluing at 70-80%. All matching numbers, of course . Only down side, if you could say there was one, is no troop tag. The K11 was stamped "P" as a take home, so I'm guessing they removed it. All in all, can't be happier. Can't wait to shoot it.

This was my first purchase from classic. I ordered by phone Monday 5/16 and they told me that they where "a couple days behind in shipping"....it went out the next day. Received here in Colorado today 1 week later. I admit after reading some of the "warning" in the description I was a bit hesitant on what I was going to get, Well if this rifle is in "good" surplus condition, then anything better must be factory new. Mine is a 1930 made example, nice bluing, stock isn't chewed to hell and to my delight has the troop tag of the man it was issued to.

Staff was friendly, they shipped quickly and the under-promised and over-delivered as far as I am concern. So I guess any t negative reviews must have come from people who where expecting 80-90 year old EX MILITARY rifles to be in pristine just-out-of the crate condition. Or thought that this company could bend the laws of time to deliver their orders 2 days before the even ordered.

Great service. One week from ordering to ffl. Recieved a 1916 k11. Better condition than I expected. Bluing is pretty worn as described in add but gun is 100 years old. However stock is gourgeous, one of the lighter colored wood. Some marks, but not even close to what you would call a scratch. Bore shines like a mirror. Extremely pleased!

I received my K11 Carbine today and I couldn't be happier. I have been biding my time waiting for these to be back in stock. I am also the proud owner of a K11 Long Rifle and I love that too. Anyways, My carbine has bluing wear, slight dings and dents, a troop tag and a P marking private ownership by the soldier that carried it. Many surplus firearm owners have often wondered "who carried my rifle" well, to those of us who own Swiss rifles, we know. We know who carried the rifle in the snow and the sleet and the rain, that adds a major cool factor! My bore is pristine and I HIGHLY recommend purchasing one of these fine rifles. I no longer have the ability to shoot due to local range closure, however I'm sure it will be more accurate than I am when the time comes, Thanks Classic!

This is my first Swiss rifle, and the gun I received was pretty much as described. I did opt for hand select. I know the description details the possibility of cracks in the stock but I was somewhat disappointed to see a fairly significant crack running from the top buttplate screw up the center of the top rear of the stock. Both buttplate screws are stripped out. I am going to take these issues on as a project and see what I can do with them. Now for the good. Bore is basically new. Rest of the stock is great with nice finish and just enough dents and dings to look cool. The sling is awesome. Trigger on this rifle is so crisp and light. Overall, for a gun made in 1929, it is great. Shipping was super fast. A great addition to my collection.

I Love A Project - - Now My 1917 K11 Looks Brand New

Before shipment, William in Customer Service sent an e-mail with a total of five (5) pictures of their last hand-select K11. He noted with several pictures that the bluing was completely off of the receiver and the bottom of the magazine. Other pictures revealed a very good to excellent condition of the walnut stock with bluing on the barrel forward and aft, the front sight, and the rear sight close to 100 percent. He asked if I still wanted it. So, I said, "I love a project, so send it and I will restore the bluing on the receiver with Eastwood's Metal Blackening Solution." Picked up K11 513XX from my FFL, checked the barrel and it was like new and shiny-bright. At home, Eastwood's Metal Blackening Solution was applied generously to the bare metal receiver and the bottom of the magazine. With about the second or third application, the receiver started to darken and began to take on that bluish-green tint that the Swiss rifles have that you see in the pictures on the Classic Firearms web site. I then touched up all the bluing on the trigger assembly, the barrel, and both rear and forward sights. When it was all dried, I buffed all the metal with 0000 steel wool and then used a terry cloth wash cloth to buff the metal and then apply some needed lemon Pledge to the wood of the stock. Now for some "history", what appeared to be "tiger stripes" on the left hand guard was probably the "right hand-finger prints" of the Swiss National Guardsman who was obviously a left-handed shooter. The area where the palm of the hand rested was also darker with out any corresponding marks or oily looking areas on the right side of the hand guard. Since K11 513XX was manufactured in 1917, it was well used - - this must have prompted the Swiss to re-barrel the rifle at sometime during its history. The reason I say this is that all numbers match on this K11 except for the front sight. On my other K11 the front sight has the last 3-digits of the serial number. On K11 513XX, the front sight number is 918 and not 3XX ; therefore, based on the different forward sight number, I believe a new barrel was installed when it was re-arsenaled. This would account for the very shiny barrel and the "like-new" look of the barrel assembly (aft at the receiver and forward at the very new looking sight assembly). Now, I have a "like new" 1917 manufactured Swiss K11 that looks even better than my other 1929 K11. Thanks to William Customer Service Representative (Extraordinaire), and Thanks again, Classic !

After purchasing a nice walnut 1941 dated K31 a few months back at a local shop and after firing this fine Swiss rifle....I got the fever to add to my collection. I have purchased a few Mosins from Classic and have not been disappointed so I decided to give the K11 carbine a shot. I placed an order paying the extra for the hand select option. I tracked the delivery progress and just picked the rifle up from my FFL....total painless process. Now the rifle:

Opened the box and peeled off the bubble wrap and all I can say is BOOM! This rifle is a beauty. Who ever at Classic pulled this rifle I can't thank enough! It has a sweet nicely grained walnut stock with absolutely no "beaver chew" or water/ice damage. It also has very few bumps and dings. I disassembled the rifle to inspect and found that the barrel, receiver, trigger and assembly, front sight, bolt, hand guard and stock are all matching. The serial number dates the rifle to 1924. The bore is shiny and crisp and the rifle shipped with a sling and a muzzle cap. The sling is not original to the rifle but who cares? I removed the butt plate and there stuck to the wood was a troop tag! A little on-line research showed that the prior Swiss citizen soldier was not in a front line unit and this could explain the excellent condition of this rifle.

In closing I couldn't be more happier with this rifle. Thank you to the Classic team. I look forward to doing more business with you....Semper Fi!!!

Got my K11 today and looks good to me. It is a 1920 K11 per the SN#. Stock is a bit banged up but this is a mil surp and I can't say I'd want it any other way. No cracks, splits, or gouges. The plastic knob for the bolt is solid with no cracks. It does have a sling. The bore is clean, shiny and bright. Yup. I'm happy.

I've just received my rifle. I had never owned a Schmidt-Rubin but after firing a k31 at the range I was impressed with its accuracy and wanted a carbine with a straight pull action. I also wanted to have some historical value behind it and that was the reason I purchased a K11;I opted for hand select option.. On mine bluing is about 70% still intact, nu rusted parts, bore is shinny, action is smooth, with its hard wood stock in good condition, no cracks but numerous small dents acquired during the years of normal use.
It was built in 1924 with all the serial numbers matching, it came with a leather sling and also I discovered the name and address of its owner under butt plate.
Overall this is a rifle which has been taken care of, lightly oiled just ready to go to range ;for a rifle which is almost a hundred years old, I cannot be happier.

Received my K11 a couple of days ago. Paid extra for the hand pick. According to the serial number, it was made in 1932. Just like the write-up said, it was in very good condition. The bore is bright and shiny, plenty of blueing left, and the stock, although it has its share of marks, looks very good. The gun really didn't even need cleaned, but I couldn't resist taking it apart and giving it a once over. I'll tell you, the condition of the wood underneath the stock and forend pieces after removing the barreled receiver was like new. I'm now tempted to buy a K31.

So pleased I just ordered another.

Really guys this is just an average buy. Paid extra for the hand pick, definitely NOT worth the extra. The bore looks good but exterior is rough as a cob. Not sure what average looks like. And it only took 3 WEEKS to get here.

!929 K11 Carbine

With a walnut stock with some drill marks, but in very good condition, this 1929 K11 was ready to shoot when picked up at the FFL. All numbers matched and the Troop Tag was under the butt plate. This carbine had a bright, shiny barrel, over 90 percent bluing, all parts in pristine condition were clean and lightly oiled, so I took it to the range immediately. It had a much lighter trigger than my K31, but was just as accurate as my K31. Put 24 rounds through it flawlessly. Very easy to clean after shooting, I then again applied Eastwood's Metal Blackening Solution which brought out the bluish green receiver color of these Swiss rifles.The Eastwood's was also used to touch up all other parts, so now, like the K31, it looks like a brand new rifle. Thanks again Classic for another great rifle!

I'm new to military surplus. This was only my second purchase. The first was a Mosin Nagant I got from my FFL six months ago. I was able to really give it the once over using a checklist based on a ton of Youtube videos. I was really hesitant about ordering on line.

I took the plunge (I paid the extra $20) and am glad I did. I received a confirmation email with a tracking number so I could keep tabs on the progress. I even received an email from Classic the day it hit my FFL. The carbine was delivered in seven days. The packageing was good - I had to hold the box while my FFL guy pulled overcome the bubblewrap.

The first thing I checked was the serial number - mine was built in 1917. Everything else looked good at the store.

When I got home, I showed the carbine to my father (who had never heard of this rifle) - he was very impressed with the metal work on the bolt (he used to work in a machine shop).

I stripped the whole thing down and cleaned the wood with Old English oil. The stock is well used with small dents all over the place. There are NO cracks or major dents that would make me want to refinish the stock - it is functionally perfect. This is milsurp - if minor dents make your eyes cross than buy a new rifle. The cutouts for the metal parts are very sharp and accurate - not like my mosin, which looks like it was carved out with a teaspoon.

There was NO corrosion anywhere, with one minor exception. To the rear of the rear sight, there are two copper rivits. These hold a spring steel clamp which attaches to the top of the barrel. There was some green on the barrel side of these rivets. A very little green was on the barrel. This all wiped off with no damage. I'll worry about this in another 97 years. NOTE - when removing the top handguard, do not just yank it off - remove it gently to overcome the clamp!

Blueing was pretty good - and mostly there (not the buttplate - it had no blueing). For me, it does not need any touchup.

The barrel was amazing - when my father (a retired cop) looked at it with a borelight and said it looked like it had never been fired.

I took apart the bolt and it look almost new. A testement to how the Swiss keep their stuff.

Mine came with a sling - it is in very good condition - no cracks or tears. It is really dirty, though. I plan to attack it with some saddle soap.

All in all, this was nice. My plan is to have a little collection of different bolt actions. My next one will be a Mauser, and that (since I'm retired) will be it...perhaps...maybe...I wonder if Classic will be getting any more K-31's in?

This has the real Schmidt-Rubin straight pull action. Arrived at my dealer clean and in good condition. I haven't any Swiss ammo yet, but will soon get out to shoot it. Nice historic gun.

A Little Disappointed

Got my rifle today and the gun is as described with about 75 % blue except for the buttplate which had none. The gun was bone dry not a drop of oil, no preservatives of any kind but no rust. The numbers did all match. The stock however looks like it was used for a club instead of a gun as it’s beat up bad. Numerous dents, scratches, gouges and even pitting in the wood. I chose hand select, clearly a waste of money in this case. Hard to believe it was hand selected best of ten for cosmetics. There must not be much left. I expected something similar to what others here have described but it was not to be.

Received a 1917 rifle. It has about 30% blue, or less, but bore is shiny and lands are sharp. Stock is rough, finish on the stock is non-existing with dozens of small dings and a couple of large gouges. It came with a leather sling. Butt plate has no blue on it, does have a service tag under the plate which is cool. I chose the hand pick option, don't think I will pay the extra in the future for this option. Have not shot the rifle yet, I don't for-see any problems. Overall a good surplus rifle

Got a 1925 rifle. It has about 50% blue, or less, but bore is shiny and lands are fairly sharp. Stock has an arsenal repair, a 2.5" x 1.5" rectangular patch just above and straddling the rear of the trigger guard, below the bolt handle. Finish on the stock is like glass, except for a few drips in the varnish and dozen or so small dings. It came with a leather sling. I have not been able to break the screws loose on the butt plate, yet, so don't know if there is a soldier's tag under it. Butt plate has no blue at all on it. Has a very recent string of gouges along one side of the trigger guard. Looks like it may have been re-crowned a few decades ago. For a surplus rifle, it is in pretty good condition. Won't be able to shoot it for a while, but don't see why it shouldn't uphold the reputation for accuracy that these rifles enjoy. A good purchase.

I recieved a swiss-K11 hand pick rifle made in 1925 with sling. The stock is good with some dings, nice grain.The blue is probably 70%-75%. Disasemmbled rifle and it looked very good all numbers match, and everything is numbered even the knobs on the bolt.Almost no blue on the butt plate, no troop tag. I received an excellent k11 carbine. It has some dings and dents but all are very minor. bluing is worn some but for a rifle built in 1930 overall very good condition. Did not come with a sling but does have a troop tag in the stock which is an added bonus! And all numbers match on the rifle also. Thank you classic firearms for another great rifle!

My grandfather was Swiss, a very precise yet elegant man from hardy stock. This gun feels like it's come to me from his own hand.

The stock is a bit banged up but the walnut has some nice grain. The sling is quite nice and very comfortable. I'm looking forward to good times with it on the range...

Received mine last week :-) Does not seem to have been in battle because the wood is in great shape :-) No a hand pick either. Had sling as well :-) Has bluing wear but no rust. Had a very light coat of heavy cosmo grease :-) I plan to wipe it gown with a clean rag as to leave the protection. I don't know if I should touch up with cold blue ? What do you all think ? Can't wait to shoot it :-) It's a lead sled which I think that it's great because of recoil and stabilization :-)

Although this is no longer the front line Swiss
rifle it is still an accurate hitter and the fit and finish are excellent as you would expect from a country that prides itself on technical superiority. The straight pull takes a little getting used to but with some practice you can become quite proficient. The ammunition I have is Swiss surplus and is packaged to last a long time and also appears to be another Swiss quality product. You may not be able to afford a Swiss watch but you can afford the K11.

This is why you should buy these guns and why Switzerland was never invaded when the Germans could have.... Inspiration to the fighting spirit of a free Nation unwilling to be conguored ...Well first, banks had no way to threaten the Germans as they would go into the banks in lands they conquered and take what they wanted and kill anyone who opposed them. It wasn't Switzerland's insignificance either as conquering the Swiss would have prevented access to funding for many of the 3rd Reich's enemies.

During the war over 1,700 allied fighter pilots found refuge in Switzerland, and many anti-war protesters (like seen in the Sound of Music) fleeing the draft also went to this nation.

During the war Swiss planes shot down at least 11 or more German fighters flying over their airspace (Swiss used German manufactured fighters to do this). Hitler even sent saboteurs into Switzerland to disable their runways at key times but they were often captured (the German spies tended to dress alike and stood out).

In my opinion Switzerland avoided occupation by use of a very integrated armed civilian force. Essentially the Swiss armed everyone with a rifle and some ammo. With a rifle in every home and the alps terrain an assult would be difficult. Switzerland had a decentralized democracy that could not be surrendered by a few elitist politicians. Hell, some Swiss didn't even know the name of the power weak president. So Hitler had no way to force a surrender by capturing a key city or a key politican (No flag to capture so to speak).

This had not been new, in 1912 a German Kaiser asked what a 1/4 million Swiss would do against 1/2 a million germans, the Swiss replie that they would shoot twice and go home. This was also told to Hitler by the King of Switzerland. In 1938 when Hitler Annexed Austria Switzerlands military declared a "fight to the last man" doctrine. In 1939 when Poland was invaded Switzerland's General Guisan ordered the citizen army to resist any attack until the last cartridge. After Denmark and Norway fell in 1940, Guisan and the Federal Council gave the order to the populace: "Aggressively attack invaders; act on your own initiative; regard any surrender broadcast or announcement as enemy propaganda; resist to the end." This was published as a message to the Swiss and a warning to the Germans; surrender was impossible, even if ordered by the government, for the prior order mandated that any "surrender" be treated as an enemy lie.

When France collapsed, detailed Nazi invasion plans with names like "Case Switzerland" and "Operation Tannenbaum" were prepared for the German General Staff. They only awaited the Fuehrer's nod.

Threatened with attack from German and Italian forces from all sides, General Guisan devised the strategy of a delaying stand at the border, and a concentration of Swiss forces in the rugged and impassable Alps. This chosen place of engagement was called the Réduit national, meaning a national fort within a fort. German tanks and planes, Panzers and Luftwaffe, would be ineffective there.

A fifth of the Swiss people, 850,000 out of the 4.2 million population, was under arms and mobilized. Most men were in the citizens army, and boys and old men with rifles constituted the Home Guard. Many women served in the civil defense and the anti-aircraft defense. Actually the Swiss didn't really have an army per say but rather was an armed nation of citizens.

Hitler called the Swiss "the most despicable and wretched people, mortal enemies of the new Germany"; in the same breath he fumed that all Jews must be expelled from Europe. His plan to annihilate the Jews would have faced a special obstacle in Switzerland, where every Swiss Jew (like every other citizen) had a rifle in his home. In the heroic Warsaw ghetto uprising of 1943, Jews demonstrated how genocide could be resisted with only a few pistols and rifles. Hitler boasted that he would liquidate "the rubbish of small nations" and would be "the Butcher of the Swiss." But the dictator was more comfortable with liquidating unarmed peoples and was dissuaded from invading Switzerland. There was no Holocaust on Swiss soil.

Switzerland was filled with Allied and Axis military personnel there essential as either members of the embassy or as survivors clinging to Switzerland as a lifeboat. In one show of force, when Vichy France was occupied, German soldiers with submachineguns took over the American embassy. The Swiss minister, brandishing his Swiss army knife, drove them out.

At Hitler's insistance a Nazi SS invasion plan, recommended for execution in 1944, warned the German general staff that the Swiss fighting spirit was high and shooting instruction good; German loses would be heavy, and a conquered Switzerland would require a strong occupation force.

During WWII Switzerland served as a lifboat to over 500,000 refugee's taking up sanctuary in private homes at owners expense.

When I first saw this rifle in the box, I was pleased. It looked really nice, tiger striped stock that wasn't dinged up too bad, some blueing wear, but no rusting or pitting. Got it home and started cleaning it up and noticed it did not have a front sight blade. Several phone calls back and forth with the people at Classic left me two choices: 1.) Keep the rifle and find/make a front sight blade for it or 2.) send the rifle back to Classic for a refund as they didn't have anymore. As it was a pretty nice rifle, I elected to keep it. After all, how dificult could it be to find a front sight blade? After nearly 6 months, I finally managed to find one on gunbroker, got it installed last week. Took the rifle to the range, anxious to try it out. Tried to chamber the first round, and it was nearly 1/4" from chambering. More frustration! Six diferent qualified people scrutinized the chamber and bore with lights, etc and pronounced it clean. Took the rifle home, mad as heckk, determined not to let it get the better of me. Soaked the chamber in solvent for about 30 mins, used a chamber on it, then saturated a doubled up patch with more solvent, jammed it in the chamber, and let it soak another 30 mins or so. Pulled the patch, ran a clean patch in the chamber and got nothing more than a small very light grey patch. Tried a round in the chamber and it dropped right in, and fell right back out. The next day, back to the range we went. First shot was about 8 1/2" high and 2" to the left at 25 yds. Next round was 2 1/4" left and 1/4" low. Third round was less than a 1/2" high and 1/2" right of dead center on the 4" red circle! Good enough for me! Loaded up a full magazine to check the functioning rapid fire. All 5 rounds inside a 5"x5" area, even with the sweat rolling in my eyes and my poor vision. Got her home and began the process of stock cleaning, after cleaning and oiling the rifle. Bottom line, I wish I had bought more, even though it's been a royal pain! She'll be really sweet once I get the stock refinished and the metal parts re blued.

I got one of these from my parents for my 16th birthday and hunted with it using Norma cartridges. This thing has no forgiveness on deers I've shot up to almost 3 hundred pounds. Like a dummy I sold it. Classic got some in and I found out. Bought one after not having one over thirty years. It is still one of the most accurate army surplus rifles you can buy and can't be beat at the price. If you want a rifle with the knock down of a .308 or more this is the one. With 15 hundred meter iron sights that says something in it self. This a bad boy and Classic is selling them at a very good price. Pay the extra 10.00 for hand select and you won't be sorry. Thanks classic for making a wish come true.

I chose hand select option and I guess I waited too late. The rifle is in "good" condition but the 1911 Long and the K31 that I ordered earlier were in better condition. Metal has some light rust and pitting. I think the bolt will look better after polishing. I'm a little disappointed but I'm still a fan of Classic Firearms. Shipping is always fast and customer service is very good.

This is my second rifle I have ordered from Classic Firearms. My first was the Russian PU sniper. Great gun and a great deal. My second was the Swiss k-1911 carbine. I ordered it with the hand select. The rifle was shipped promptly, ordered it Tuesday and received it Friday. When I opened the box the rifle was dusty, had a light coating of surface rust on it, the safety ring was rust covered, and the stock had been replaced and repaired in the past. The stock is cracked starting at the top of the left side down to trigger guard and runs past the magazine well, The stock still seems solid though. All the numbers match to include the magazine. the rifle clean up fine and I am looking forward to shooting it. My only concern is with the hand select. I was looking forward to receiving one in a little better condition than I did. More than likely if I would have seen this rifle before I bought it. I would have past on it do to it's condition.

I just picked this rifle up today and I could not be happier. The condition of it was fantastic, which has been the case with everything I've purchased from Classic. The wood is in beautiful shape with little in the way of wear on it, and the barrel is bright and beautiful. I checked the serial number and found it was made in 1917. Hard to believe I was holding something so old in such beautiful shape. Get one! You will not be disappointed. I spent the extra money for hand select and was very happy I did.

I ordered a K1911 long rifle and at first got the carbine instead. oops. was going to send it back but when I got it out of the packaging I was amazed. Walnut stock, in excellent condition - actually the cosmetics are better than any other Swiss rifle I own (and I own a few). 1932 dated receiver - 2nd to last year of production....all matching - 98% blue - bore is pristine. Sorry guys - you can't have this rifle back, its mine now ........ :-) TR
