A Glorious Icon of Firearms History

You would do well to grab yourself a piece of firearms history in the person of a Swiss Model 1911 Infantry Rifle. This is the famed Schmidt Rubin in its first fully-modern embodiment, firing the high power GP-11 7.5x55 Swiss cartridge.
The specimen I received from Classic is a beauty--not mint condition, but near-pristine, with just a patina of minute dings in her stock and a slight ring of worn bluing near her muzzle, presumably the evidence of an oft-employed Swiss muzzle-cap, evidence of the long-time owner's especial care of this wondrous rifle.
Thank you, Classic, for this beautiful artifact of firearms history now reposing in my personal collection.

I have bought both the k11 and k31 from classic firearms. I love these Swiss rifles the craftsmanship is supreme. I'm waiting on the other 2 Swiss rifles to come back in stock to round out my collection. If you have a chance to buy one from classic firearm in the future don't wait pull the trigger. They are a great shooting rifles and a wonderful piece of military history.

If you are in the market for a rifle that is highly accurate and will give a modern match rifle a run for its money, this is the rifle to get. The 30.7" fully free floated barrel, the excellent sights, and the 2 5/8lb two stage trigger pull combine to make this a very accurate match quality rifle. The trigger on this rifle is the nicest and cleanest breaking two stage trigger I have ever seen on a military rifle, if a person did not know, they would call it a timney trigger. I did the $10 hand select, because as you will see in my video, it got a rifle with a good sling, great blueing, and a good stock. I will say though, when you open the box, be prepaired, because this is a very long rifle, but there is something awesome about the size of this rifle that makes it a must have rifle for any collectors collection!!!! Classic Arms did very well getting these in and selling them for a fair price. Now all I need is the carbine, and the 96/11 rifles to complete me Swiss rifle collection.

Easily the nicest surplus rifle I picked up on this site. I couldn't be happier. The furniture is beautiful. The bluing is nice. The bore cleaned up nicely with great rifling. The bolt is nice with very minor damage to the handle. Everything is matching. If you love surplus, pick one up when the next opportunity is available.

Received this rifle last week, and gathered quite a crowd at the store when I went to do the transfer. After a good cleaning she came up beautiful. Its not like new, because mine was made in 1915, but its in much better shape than my other milsurps. Bolt is smooth and functions excellently, and it shoots great. Accurate with the surplus Swiss GP11 ammo, which I cannot recommend enough! If they come back in stock, buy one, you wont be dissapointed.

Just received my rifle and received one of the nicest rifles I think I have ever got at the standard grade, the blueing was probably a good 90 percent and stock was very good with only minor handling marks, absolutely no marks on mag follower or anywhere else inside the gun, I have to say I am extremely satisfied with this firearm.

This was my first purchase from Classic and to tell you the truth I was a bit hesitant to buy this rifle. Generally, I like to have the rifle in my hand and look it over before making a decision. I've bought a few C&R rifles sight unseen and it has been a mixed bag. I already own a K31 and two 96/11 Swiss rifles, but didn't own a 1911. On a whim I decided to "bite the bullet", so to speak, and buy without seeing. The "Good" condition rating had me worried though. When the rifle came to the house and I unpacked it I was honestly shocked by the condition. This is easily in better condition than any of my other three Swiss guns. It's fantastic. The bluing is probably 98%, the bore (like most Swiss rifles) is pristine and the stock looks great with some minor dings. I completely disassembled the rifle and cleaned and oiled everything. I was pleasantly surprised to push a patch through the bore and on the end was a glob of automattenfett. Someone took really good care of this gun. Now it's my turn to take care of her. Great job Classic.

Frustration & Reward

So I had missed out on the last batch of Swiss 1911 Long Rifles and was a gad grumpy they were out when I went to order one several months back. I looked all over trying to find one and never could locate a good example. Then I got the recent email informing me that a small supply were back in stock. My joy quickly turned to extreme frustration as clicking on the email or attempting to visit the website resulted in the webpage crashing for hours upon hours of attempts. Finally the website became functional again but the order page for the long rifle that tempted me with the news that limited quantities were available still malfunctioned and would not allow my order to post. Alas it was the weekend and I was unable to make phone contact to order so I submitted an email support message informing them of this malfunction. Towards the end of the weekend I finally got a response to my message letting me know the error had been corrected and I immediately went to the webpage and finally suceeded in getting my order placed. This was the hardest time I've ever had purchasing a firearm (which if this is the worst it isn't that bad... just a bit frustrating). I then got a bit nervous when shipping was slower than my past experienve with Classic... but finally today when I received my rifle...

I was rewarded fantastically! This is one of the most beautiful Swiss rifles I have seen in fantastic condition AND a "P" series like I had recently seen sell on an auction site for north of $1000! The rifle also included a non-military braided sling and a muzzle cap (which unfortunately got broken in shipment). I'm almost scared to shoot the rifle it is so pristine but at the same time I can't wait to get to the range. Thank You Classic for rewarding my persistence with a rifle in such amazing condition that I never would have dreamed I would have received for the price I paid.

I really wanted this to work, the information on whether it will fit a K1911 is not clear so I phoned Classic and at first was told no, but put on hold and then told yes it will fit. Got it home and it clearly does not fit a K1911. Ok so that disappoints me.
CF needs to be a better resource for a collector on this.

The Bayonet itself does not disappoint. I went with hand select and received one that is flawless. Not all is lost, I will take it to a machine shop and have the barrel ring machined slightly to make it work. It will then be a great addition. The five stars are for the Bayonet and what CF is selling.

This rifle came to me as expected. The Grading by Classic is very honest and this one came as expected, except that its hard to believe when they say an old rifle has such a fine bore, yet the bore is like a mirror! Really well taken care of. Mine had the sling and march end cap as well. Function is perfect and I really look forward to taking this one to the range. Well done Classic!

It took about 4 days to get this rifle from the warehouse to my FFL, so the shipping was fast and tracked well. I received this rifle and it looked great! I didn't have the option of a hand-select, but after a thorough takedown and cleaning I found that the bore was shiny and bright, the rifling almost perfect, the blueing 90% intact, and the action smooth as silk. The only things that were not perfect were the stock (beaten like I expected, but crack free and very nice looking) and the phenolic bolt handle, which is cracked but is probably original and 99 years old. I got lucky - all matching serial numbers, a sling, an original muzzle cover, and a troop tag under the butt plate! I ordered a target shooting / hunting rifle and was given a piece of history. The fit and finish on this rifle is amazing - the swiss were way ahead of their time here. Tight wood/metal joints, smooth action, a well built magazine, a free-floating barrel, and remarkable attention to detail. This rifle looks and performs better than 99% of rifles I have seen made between then and now. Absolutely 10/10.

Side note - be sure to grease it, not oil it. It likes any grease that will keep out water and doesn't attract dirt. I use US milsurp 'peanut butter' grease with no issues - just lather it up inside and out and go. The original formulation is reduced sheep tallow and olive oil, which works better on the wood surfaces but isn't so easy to find. These rifles were extremely well taken care of.

Bought this with the handpick for exterior cosmetics. The rifle is in great condition and there is a troop tag under the butt plate! Came with muzzle cover and leather sling. All numbers match except for the bolt, but I didn't specify that I wanted all matching. My handpick got me a stock that is in great shape and metal with decent bluing, so I am satisfied with that. Shipping was very fast, but I wish they would remove the bolt before shipping. Although it was wrapped in bubble wrap, the bolt knob was still protruding through a hole in the box.

Classic really delivered on this one. In addition to the leather sling, mine came with an original swiss muzzle cap. Dunno if all the rifles ship with these but it was really cool to have, and actually quite useful to protect the barrel crown during transport.

I took it to the range today and, shooting GP11 surplus, the rifle was dramatically more accurate than any other surplus rifle I own, aside from a K31. The action is just as smooth and crisp as a K31, and the trigger is excellent. And it's definitely a conversation starter at the range.

Really cool rifle. Just barely fits in my safe. It's in very good condition nothing really wrong with the stock and the metal has just the right amount of wear to it. Very fun to shoot, from what I can find I believe mine was made in 1915. Very fast shipping, ordered Sunday and at my FFL on Wednesday.

Bought this one with my Christmas paycheck. I was surprised as to how nice the finish on the metal was. Shoots very nice. I did opt for hand select, and although the rear of the buttstock looked like a housecat let loose on it, (from what I understand that normal for these guns), the great condition of the leather on the sling is what made this purchase a good one.

Of all my milsurp rifles, this is my favorite! It's very accurate and I like the straight pull bolt. This is my second rifle from Classic Firearms and definitely wont be my last! They weren't kidding about the stock being beat up! I even paid the extra for a hand picked. I can only imagine what it would have looked like had I not paid the extra. All in all this is a great rifle and I will happily show it off to my friends!.

Great looking rifle. Got the rifle and almost all the cosmoline were removed. Thanks Classic! The bore looks great and mirror shine. Shot 100 rounds with reloaded PPU brass, 150gr Hornady BTSP with Hodgdon H4895. Shooting high but the groupings were around 1-2".

Received my K1911 and was very impressed at the quality and condition of the weapon. Have not had it to the range yet, but am very anxious to. One note, the overall length is 52", so can pose a challenge to get into a safe. Again beautiful weapon though and one I would recommend. Classic came through again.

I purchased one of the K1911 long rifles, the model prior to the 1911 carbine.

When I received it I thought it was near new. The condition of the rifle overall was simply fantastic. It had good character wear, the kind that makes it look good but doesn't approach anywhere near the level of abuse.

You can tell these rifles were cared for as if they were personal arms while they were in service. The bore and action are shiny and clean on both examples. Mine were all matching down to the butt plates.


I liked my rifle so much on looks and build quality alone I ordered another one within the next two weeks. I don't really care if either one doesn't shoot 1" patterns like some guys are getting. It's built how a rifle should be and was used properly so it may not shoot like "new". Who cares though?

If you were to buy a rifle with similar manufacturing like this today you would spend about $2000 at a minimum. The rear sights, the machine work and the hardwood stocks are all considered premium by today's standards.

I am more than happy, thanks Classic Firearms!

I received this in a timely manner. It would have been faster if it hadn't been Thanksgiving week. The stock is in great shape. There are no major dints or cracks. The blueing is 95% or better. My only complaint is that I didn't receive a sling. I will be doing more business with classic firearms in the future.

I received a very nice rifle, minor dings on the stock, but that is expected due to the age of the rifle. The bluing is very nice, the bore is shiny, no signs of rust anywhere, nice smooth tiger pull, they even checked the bore of the barrel. I can't wait to shoot it, everything functions so smoth, I will have to get another!

What did I get? I got a gorgeous rifle. Based on the "caution" noted on the site, I didn't opt for hand-select, because it downplayed the quality of "ALL" the rifles--so I decided to keep my $20. I was shocked when I looked at the stock and barrel of the rifle I received. Very beautiful stock compared to the other 2 Swiss variants I have purchased elsewhere.
Do all the serials match? No. The sights appear to have different numbers...whoop di doo. The important parts match.
Did I get a troop ID tag in the stock? no. Did I get a sling? no. (bummer that they've increased it to 80% and I still didn't get one)--but that wasn't guaranteed. What I got was a very nice looking rifle--that I think is better than their very cautious descriptions. I am pleased. Thanks!

Outstanding Rifle

This is the third rifle I bought from Classic Firearms. This rifle is amazing. The serial number puts it at 1914 with a rebuild in 1923. The stock has II 13 stamped on it, from what I read it was made in February of 1913. All numbers match and use the last two numbers of serial number which are 83. Bolt, front sight, rear sight, trigger guard, trigger assembly, floor plate and butt plate are all marked with 83. Geneva is stamped into top of stock along with a capital K and D between a flower on the side. That same K.D. is also on the underside of the bolt, trying to find out what it means. Stock has dings which I'm okay with. Troop tag under butt plate, was taken by him in 62. This is another great rifle from Classic Firearms. I really have nothing bad to say about it, its just that good. Sling was nice also. Very happy customer.

Satisfied expectations and great service

I received this rifle back in early July, but I hadn't had the time to shoot it until today, so I'm just now writing my review.
My first impressions were positive. It was not the prettiest rifle, or even the prettiest Swiss rifle I have, which tend to have some dings here and there. The stock is a nice dark grain, but it does have a repair right under the receiver where it meets the butt. However, the repair is very well done and seamless, so no harm done there. There is no troop tag, but I've already been lucky twice without requesting it, so I can't complain. The barrel is fantastic; very shiny and defined. All the numbers are matching, and the bolt is is good order.
Shooting the rifle was a true pleasure. The bolt is butter smooth. The trigger is two stage, and that second stage is feather light. The group quite good, though I only tried 10 rounds through it at 100 meters. I believe this rifle will shine at a longer distance, as it's sight doesn't even start until 300 yards. Aim low.

A word to the wise, I had ordered a 1911 from another certain company that I will not name, and what I received was for all intents and purposes a 1911. However the serial numbers (which were mismatched, by the way) proved the rifle to be a 96/11. I don't have a problem with this model, but I was a bit torqued to receive a gun I didn't order. Again, this was a different company that sent me that rifle. I simply mean to put out some advice, which is to research the very comprehensive resources that are out there regarding your serial numbers.

This Swiss K1911 Long Straight Pull Rifle 7.5x55 479XXX was hand-selected with a very nice walnut stock with a sling. The troop tag was under the butt plate. The barrel is shiny and bluing was about 95 percent. Now for the project part. It appears that when the bubble wrap was installed that there were some raindrops on the receiver. This rusted the exterior of the receiver with what looked like etchings of some tool and die stamp - - there were about 10 of these perfectly round rust spots. So with some water-based rust remover, some 0000 fine steel wool, and some elbow-grease, the rust spots and bluing on the receiver were all removed. So after removing all the remaining rust-remover and a good drying of the bare receiver metal, the Eastwood's Metal Blackening Solution was applied about 4 times. With each coat, the finish on the receiver was lightly buffed with another 0000 fine steel wool pad. Again the Eastwood's blackening solution restored the blue-green receiver metal to like new condition. Other parts of the rifle were touched up with the blackening solution, so now it is 100 percent. To complete the next phase of the project, I had to replace the metal tension spring under the rear sight that was broken. After removing the largest part of the broken spring, I then took a spare parts mosin-nagant 91/30 rear sight metal spring and used a grinder to make it fit under the small original part from the K1911 spring. Wedged in tightly, the rear site plate was reinstalled which completed the project - - all this work really only took about 30 minutes to accomplish So now the K1911 is restored, looks like it is new, and is ready for the range. 4 Star Stock, 5 Star Shooter

This is my third purchase from Classic and couldn't be happier with the ease of the transaction. I purchased this rifle with the hand select option. When I picked up at the FFL and inspected the rifle, I noticed the upper hand guard had the " beaver chew" look as others have described, but also a good sized chip from the end down to the upper barrel band. It was not a fresh chip so I knew it was just part of the history of the rifle. The rest of the stock had the typical wear and tear you would expect from a rifle this old. Maybe I was expecting a little better looking stock for the hand select option. It came with a leather sling as promised. All numbers matched; the bore was very shiny and had good lands and grooves. I took down the whole rifle and cleaned all metal with Hoppes and lubed with CLP. The wood, I used a antique finished wood cleaner on it. The gun cleaned up; looked very nice. When I went to the range and shot, I was very pleased with the accuracy of this rifle. These 1911's are very accurate using the 7.5 surplus ammunition. I don't hand load so can't speek for accuracy with hand loads. Overall I am pleased with the rifle and glad to have added it to my collection. Thank-you Classic Firearms!

This is the best of all the swiss rifles I have bought. The stock is in better shape than I expected. The bore is fantastic & the metal parts have no rust. Didn't use the hand select option & I don't know how I could have gotten A better deal. thanks a lot classic.

I love the rifle itself but was a little disappointed in the hand select. There is a repaired crack in the stock and the bluing is not as good as I expected,but other than that and the huge import mark it's overall a really nice rifle.

I received a beautiful rifle with a shiny, bright bore, a nice walnut stock with surprisingly little wear and tear, and 100% of the bluing intact. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the import marks emblazoned across the left side of the receiver. Too bad they didn't do it somewhere less visible like under the end of the barrel as I have seen on other rifles. Fast service from classic and a special hand select fee well spent.

I really want to give this rifke 4 stars because of the large import stamp on the receiver, but at the same time, the beautiful stock, the bluing and the overall condition of the bore on my Schmidt Rubin Model 1911 make it very difficult to give this purchase 4 stars.

I chose the hand picked option and received a beautiful rifle! Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and I cant wait to take it to the range tomorrow!

Almost perfect

Just unboxed my K1911 and it is just about perfect. Minty bore, beautiful wood stock, matching numbers and a sling to boot. Trigger is just as nice as my K31. I paid the extra $20 hand select fee for cosmetics, which I would pay again. The only thing keeping this rifle from perfection is a tiny gouge in the stock and half the bottom edge missing from the bolt knob. Hopefully the jagged edge won't shred my fingers as I run the bolt. I hope to get to the range this weekend and let her stretch her legs. Excellent customer service from Classic. Fast shipping along with email updates and a UPS tracking number. Thanks Classic, for making these fine rifles available.

Outstanding- 10/10

My parents gifted me one of these for Christmas, and all I can say is "Outstanding". Classic has outdone themselves with the quality of this rifle, and that's for certain. The rifle has a nice dark walnut stock in at least 85% condition. The bluing is even better, my guess would be a solid 90%. On top of that, literally every single serial number on this rifle is matching, even the bakelite bolt handle is has "417" stamped on it, the last four digits on the receiver.

When I received the rifle, the bore looked really awful. My guess would be maybe a 3/10. I took it out to the garage, ran a brush, some Hoppes #9, and four patches through it, and It was like looking into a mirror. Upon further inspection I realized that the gunk in the bore was just packing grease. I can't stress enough how immaculate this bore was. No rust, no frosting, no darkness, and just a tiny bit of wear on the rifling. Literally the nicest surplus rifle bore I have ever seen in my entire career.

My only complaint is a minor one; I received a K31 bayonet with this rifle, as seen in the picture, which was also in excellent shape. 95%, easily. I got it for my K31 exclusively, but the ad on the page with the bayonet said that it would work with the 1911 and the K1911. This was almost true, but backwards. 1911 bayonets can be used on K31 rifles, but K31 bayonets can NOT be used on 1911s. This may have been misleading to other customers, but it doesn't mean a thing compared to the excellent quality and customer service at Classic Arms.

Where to start??
I received excellent service. I selected "hand select for cosmetics" and I was amazed by the condition of the rife. The rife came with a sling, it appeared to be original.
I took it to a local gunsmith. He cleaned it and put “bear fat” on the sling. The gunsmith indicated the following as excellent; barrel, stock and the trigger. Also, all the markings are visible on the stock and barrel. On the same day, I took the K1911 to an indoor shooting range, WOW!! The accuracy of the rife is amazing. Thank you Classic Firearms..

This was my first purchase from classicfirearms. I am very happy with this purchase. Ordering was very smooth and shipping was fast. I opted for the hand select and received a very nice 1911 long rifle. It had a few bumps and scratches in the stock that are typical with swiss rifles, but overall in much better shape than I had expected. Not bad at all for a rifle manufactured in 1917. All of the metal was in very good condition and the bore looked nearly new. The trigger is very smooth and it is very accurate. It is by far the most accurate milsurp rifle that I own. Thanks.

After buying the K31 I immediately decided to go ahead and get this rifle as I received such a spectacular K31 from Classic. When I received this I was not disappointed in the slightest. It came out to be a 1915 vintage rifle that looks mighty fine for its age. The stock is in remarkably good condition and the barrel is still bright and shiny. One thing to watch is that this is a long rifle, so don't be surprised when you get it and find out how really long it is. However, do not let that detract you as you will not be unhappy! I have 2 K31's and shoot each of them a fair bit. Have always wanted a 1911 long rifle. The K11 long rifle I received was not cosmetically in the best shape, I would call the cosmetics NRA very good at best. Like a lot of older Swiss rifles, - the butt looks like a beaver chewed on it. Lands looked good and so did the crown. A little dark in the grooves. But it was made in 1916, so to be expected. Cleaned the rifle, ran a few patches through it and took it out to the range and punched paper at 100 yds today with 20 rounds of GP11. actually shot 5 warm ups on steel at 180 yards and was 5/5 on the steel. Then punched some paper and went to check. Wow, 1.75 inch 5-shot group at 100 yards first time out! Went back and repeated this twice more - got 2 MOA or less with each 5-shot group. Very pleased with that considering it is a long rifle and not free floated and that is just with standard GP11. Also for you short rifle folks just want to mention that I chrono'd the shots and the long rifle picks up 100fps compared to the K11 or K31. Very happy. I think with further study & handloading this could shoot just as well as my K31's. Now I need a K96/11 too!
