HG1193: These Colt Detective Special 3rd Issue revolvers are timeless classic firearms that were produced between 1973-1986. The Colt Detective 3rd Issue is chambered in 38 Special and boasts a six-shot capacity giving it a competitive edge over the typical five-shot revolvers at the time. This fantastic revolver was typically carried by detectives or ununiformed police officers and gained the reputation as one of the most reliable compact revolvers ever produced. These revolvers are getting harder to find and make an excellent addition as an everyday carry choice or simply to round out your firearms collection.
Please See extended description for more complete details and a note about the condition.
The Colt Detective series of revolvers are genuinely legendary and have earned their place in history as one of the most reliable compact revolvers ever produced. These revolvers have also made lots of appearances over the past several decades in some of Hollywood's biggest crime and police dramas. These revolvers are incredibly hard to find, and we are thrilled to be able to offer this small and very exclusive lot to you. The Colt Detective Special revolver is chambered in .38 Special and features a six-shot capacity giving them a competitive advantage over other revolvers produced during their time period. They feature a 2" barrel and fire from a traditional double-action meaning you have your choice of a double or single action. The Colt Detective 3rd Issue features a low-profile ramped front sight and integrated and fixed rear sight aiding in its overall low-profile design. These revolvers feature a blued finish, and most have the original wooden grips. However, these are police turn-in revolvers, so please understand we received them how the issued officer returned them...meaning some have aftermarket grips, etc, which would reflect the individual officers carry choice at the time. As stated before these iconic revolvers feature a DA/SA trigger and folks; the triggers on these revolvers are incredible and feature minimal take-up and a crisp break. All of these revolvers feature the legendary Colt Pony. They would make an excellent addition to any firearms collection. *About the condition. As you can see from the video many of the pistols in this lot look exceptionally good cosmetically. What we have noticed though, is that although some of the grips may show a certain amount of age and wear on the checkering, the metal surfaces show very little if any holster rub or finish wear, such as you would expect on " officer carried " pistols of this age and vintage. As such, we feel like the metal surfaces on these have probably been re-blued somewhere along the way. That is not a bad thing here because as you can see from the images the bluing looks quite nice and whoever did it, did a good job. Another indication that they have been re-blued is that a few of these did have some external pitting on the metal surfaces that were blued over. This was very apparent and a clear indication of the re-blue. Although we are sure that the structural integrity and function of the pistols will not be inhibited by any of the pitting that we have seen, please know that those pistols with excessive pitting have been segregated and are selling under the custom options tab at a discounted price point. On the other end of the spectrum, we also offer a hand select option that will get you the best of 10 for a minor upcharge. Lastly, although they have not been test fired by us, each pistol has been visually inspected by our staff and they all appear to be in exceptional working order. Of course, as with all surplus, we strongly suggest that you have the pistol checked by a qualified gunsmith before firing.
