The Heckler and Koch 81000363 model from the renowned USP series boasts a frame made of fiber-reinforced polymer, which is rigidified with the aid of stainless steel inserts at specific points that endure stress and friction. The innovative use of polymer materials in handgun production was pioneered by HK over 30 years ago, originating with the design and manufacture of the VP70Z and P9S pistols.
A distinct feature of the USP line is the control lever, a blend of safety and decocking lever that is conveniently located on the frame. This deviates from the traditional slide-mounted safeties popularly found on many semi-automatic pistols. The USP employs a modified Browning-type action and features a unique, patented recoil reduction system. The system not only lessens the impact of recoil on the pistol's components but also diminishes the recoil forces felt by the user.
Proven in the HK Mark 23 pistol, purposed for the U.S. Special Operations Command, this recoil reduction system does not discriminate by ammunition types and does not require any specific adjustments or upkeep. It works effectively across all USP models. The Variant 1 model specifically operates on a double action/single action mechanism with a "SAFE" position, furnished with a control lever (manual safety/decocking lever) on the left side of the frame.
