Back in the late 80's and early 90's virtually all of the 7.62x39 ammo that was coming into the country was coming from China, and virtually all Chinese surplus 7.62x39 came on stripper clips because it had originally been intended for the SKS rifle. There are even stripper clip adapters for AK mags that allow speed loading of those also. Then stripper clips dried up and everybody just had to load by hand.
