Smith & Wesson Model 59: What A Find!!!! - The Smith & Wesson Model 59 jumped onto the scene in 1971 and gave birth to Smith & Wesson's "Wonder Nine" period. It went on to be extremely popular in Law Enforcement use and was ultimately adopted by numerous departments across the country. The Model 59 is essentially a double stack copy of the model 39 which proceeded it. The Model 59 was originally designed for the US Navy SEALS "hushpuppy" program. Although not adopted by the Navy, the Model 59 went on to prove itself over the years in the hands of law enforcement and civilians alike. By 1974, Las Vegas Metro was carrying the Model 59 pistols and their popularity quickly spread to other departments. Some departments of the era reportedly compromised by issuing the Model 59 while buying a smaller stock of Model 39s for use by detectives and those with hands too small to wrap around the larger grip of the double-stack. These pistols are rated NRA " FAIR " Condition and you will have the option for a Stainless or Blued. Base price references the Fair Condition Blued pistols as that is what we have the highest quantity on, with other finish options available as listed. Note: Although all of the pistols qualify as being at least NRA Surplus Fair in terms of condition, they will have cosmetic differences with some being nicer than others. For those wishing to ensure the best condition available, we do offer a Hand Select option on this item.... NOTE 2: Images reflect style of firearm, but configurations and conditions may vary as these are used pistols and are graded using the NRA Modern Gun Condition Standards.
