This Firearm Will Go Live on The Site for Sale at Noon E.S.T. on Monday Dec 8, 2025. So here is the story, This rifle was one of the approved versions of a Chinese AKM rifle that China Sports Inc. began importing after the 1989 "Assault Rifle" ban. For those too young to remember, President George H.W. Bush issued an executive order restricting the importation of several rifle platforms that had what was termed as "Military Characteristics". These characteristics included such evil features as muzzle brakes, pistol grips, bayonet lugs, ... etc. I guess there had been a rash of drive by bayonetings and something simply had to be done. Anyway, semi-auto AK platform rifles in their original form went away for about 10 years and thumbhole stock models without the offending features took their place. That lasted for a little while at least before trade restrictions were imposed on Chinese made rifles are are still in place to this day. But I digress. The NHM 91 rifles was one of the "civilianized" rifles that was imported during this time. However, there were some good features to this rifle as well. It has 20 inch thicker-profile chrome-lined barrel and heavier metal receiver built from 1.5mm-thick stamped sheet metal. Typicaly the Soviet or Chinese-made AKM has a 1mm thick receiver so the NHM-91 receiver is more rigid and along with the heavier profile chrome lined barrel, and the improved polished and lighter trigger that these rifles featured, they have proven to be one of the more accurate models ever imported. Some models had restrictor plates allowing only the low cap mags that they came with to fit, but this one accepts all standard high cap mags and drums. It also has a muzzle cap lightly tack welded over the original 14x1 left hand threads should you wish to install a brake. For me, I chose to keep it original and don't hate me for it, but I kind of even like the thumbhole stock. It makes for a very stable platform. I no longer have the original box but this rifle is in As-New condition. The wood furniture is beautiful, the bluing is deep and rich, and the bore looks new. It is mirror bright with strong lands and grooves. I'm convinced that you can't find a nicer one anywhere.... these models are exceptional when paired with a drum but I'm not trying to ship a drum with it....it ships with 1-30 round magazine. The serial # starts with the prefix 93 which means that I have probably had it in my safe since 1993. The rifle will ship in a box in heavy bubble wrap for maximum protection. This rifle has been represented here through images and description with 100% accuracy as I know it and if you are not comfortable buying it based on this information Do Not Make the Purchase. Rifle will ship in a box heavily wrapped in bubble wrap for maximum protection. All sales are final on this rifle. The back story. Over the last 30 plus years in the gun business I have acquired some really nice surplus firearms. These guns came from Gun Shows, private collections, and private individuals that I have met along the way, as well as, on occasion, what I would deem as the best of a particular lot when it came in here to Classic. Well, all good things must end and at this point in my life it is time to downsize a little and that includes letting go of some of these "Gun Safe Queens" that I have typically only pulled out to clean ever so often. Now don't get me wrong, there was a time when I would not have even considered giving up one of these firearms as they have been very special to me. However, my daughters show no interest in inheriting them, and I've decided that I would rather see them in the hands of folks that would relish them, than to have them to continue sit in a dark safe here at Classic. Each gun from my private collection is unique and they will sell individually by serial #, so when that gun is gone, it is gone and irreplaceable. At least from me. If you no longer see this rifle in inventory, you will know that it has sold.
