This Firearm Will Go Live on The Site for Sale at Noon E.S.T. on Monday Dec 8, 2025. - The Enfield 2-A1 Rifle is a 7.62×51mm NATO caliber bolt-action rifle adopted as a reserve arm by the Indian Armed Forces in 1963. Externally, the Ishapore 2A1 rifle is based on (and is almost identical to) the .303 British caliber SMLE Mk III* rifle, with the exception of the distinctive "square" magazine and the use of the buttplate from the 1A (Indian version of the FN FAL) rifle. The bolt and receiver were made out of nickel steel. The 2A was designed to allow the British Pattern 1907 (P'07) sword bayonet used on the SMLE MkIII to be attached. Other difference included the use of improved steel (to handle the increased pressures of the 7.62mm NATO round), and a redesigned extractor to cope with the rimless round. Now for the story. As with most Enfield's, this is one butt ugly rifle. As you can see in the images the stock and finish are rough, and it is certainly not going to win any beauty contest. In fact, when I pulled it out, I asked myself " why do I even have this".... and I still don't remember. However, there are some good things about the rifle. Although it is ugly on the outside with dings and dents on the dark colored stock, and lots of finish wear on the metal, there are no cracks in the wood or rust on the metal. Also, the stock is tight, and the action is smooth and solid. That puts it ahead of 50% of the Enfield's out there. Also, the bore is really nice. bright with lots of rifling left and no pitting. That puts it ahead of another 30%. Plus, it is .308 caliber so you can actually afford to shoot it and have a vast assortment of ammo options. Oh, and for what it's worth, I'm sure there must be one on here somewhere, but we can't find an importer stamp on this rifle anywhere. This rifle has been represented here through images and description with 100% accuracy as I know it and if you are not comfortable buying it based on this information Do Not Make the Purchase. All sales are final on this rifle. This rifle is C&R Eligible. The back story. Over the last 30 plus years in the gun business I have acquired some really nice surplus firearms. These guns came from Gun Shows, private collections, and private individuals that I have met along the way, as well as, on occasion, what I would deem as the best of a particular lot when it came in here to Classic. Well, all good things must end and at this point in my life it is time to downsize a little and that includes letting go of some of these "Gun Safe Queens" that I have typically only pulled out to clean ever so often. Now don't get me wrong, there was a time when I would not have even considered giving up one of these firearms as they have been very special to me. However, my daughters show no interest in inheriting them, and at this point in my life I've decided that I would rather see them in the hands of folks that would relish them, than to have them to continue sit in a dark safe here at Classic. Each gun from my private collection is unique and they will sell individually by serial #, so when that gun is gone, it is gone and irreplaceable. At least from me. If you no longer see this rifle in inventory, you will know that it has sold.
