MPN: M1 Carbine

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This Firearm Will Go Live on The Site for Sale at Noon E.S.T. on Monday Dec 8, 2025. For those of you who are not hardcore collectors and don't know, this is like finding the Bigfoot of M1-Carbines. In fact, even the existence of Commercial Controls M-1 carbines is considered somewhat mythical with some doubting that they even really exist. Well, I'm here to tell you that they do exist, because I have one of them. The exact one that I have is serial # 0202 or 202 of 239 ever produced. For those of you who don't know about Military Contract Commercial Controls M1-Carbine rifles here is the story on them.... to verify that it is not BS you can get all of the details at the website uscarbinecal30.com. In April of 1944 National Postal Meter Company changed the name of their company to Commercial Controls Corporation. Just prior to that they had ceased all M1 Carbine production under National Postal Meter. However, they still had enough new parts, receivers, and barrels left over to build a few more guns and they utilized those parts to produce exactly 239 M1 Carbines marked under their new name Commercial Controls Inc. They then provided those rifles to the U.S. Ordnance in August of 1945. This makes the Commercial Controls marked M1-Carbine the rarest of all Military M1 Carbines by far. In fact, it is so rare that the website above, which is considered the Bible when it comes to M1 Carbines... has an image of every other carbine receiver marking.... but they do not have this one. I am assuming that is because this one is so rare that they can't find one to photograph. Frankly there was a time when I never thought that I would ever see one of these much less own one, but through a rare series of circumstances I ended up with this one. The brief story on that is as follows. I knew a prominant WWII era collector who had this in his possession. His daughter was getting married and wanted an elaborate wedding and of course, the brides family typically pays for the wedding. Well, he was short on cash but heavy on guns. He and I got to talking and frankly this Commercial Controls Carbine was the only thing I was interested in. Problem was he didn't want to sell it.... but he needed to. So, we struck this deal, I would buy it from him under a handshake agreement that if he ever wanted it back, within the next 3 years, I would sell it back to him for exactly what I had paid for it. Well, that has been a long long time ago now. Way over ( and I mean way, way over) 3 years ago, and he never came back to me for it.

I have had this rifle authenticated as best I can and I 100% believe it is legitimate as does the expert that did the authentication. Everything on it looks right. There are no scubs or filed down area's anywhere, and all parts are historically correct. Even the barrel is correct in that it is a Buffalo Bomb barrel dated 11-43 and Buffalo barrels were what National Postal Meter was using almost exclusively during the latter days of their run. All images here are actual photo's of the rifle. The only delimma I have is this. I have no way of determining exactly what it is worth. There are simply no comps out there. My expert, who asked that I not name him because he doesn't want people reaching out, has told me that a really good Irwin-Pederson is worth around 5000.00 and that this one should be worth at least 3 times that, so at 12K I feel like I'm being conservative. Plus the fact that it is worth that to me. One thing for sure, whether it is worth it or not I can't replace it for that price... or any price as far as I know. I have already contacted Rock Island Auction Company about it and they have expressed an interest so if it doesn't sell here, I will more than likely put it up for auction with them. If you want this rifle.... don't try to put it on your credit card.... call in and we will figure out how to get it paid for.  Now - More about the rifle itself.

Beautiful M1 Carbine Rifle manufactured by Commercial Controls MFG. This carbine is highly sought after by collectors both because of the unique history of the company, and the rarity of the rifle. In fact it would be considered by far the crown jewel of any carbine collection. The stock is really nice and in almost perfect condition so it may be a replacement but I don't know that for sure. The Commercial Controls carbines never saw service or combat so it could be original ... but I doubt it. It is simply too nice. Aside from the stock however, the rifle itself all appears to be original and although it is in very good condition it still shows legitimate aging as any 80 year old metal finish would, however, there is zero pitting or rust. When I got it it was really nice, and knowing what I had, I have kept it nice. Maybe the best part is that the inside is even nicer than the outside. The bore is mirror bright and shiny with pristine lands and grooves. It looks unfired and honestly other than the factory test fire it may be unfired. I know that I have never fired it.  Again, there is no way that I can know the full history and prior ownership of this rifle and with the exception of what I have shared I am keeping the prior owners name confidential.

What I can state for sure is that it is one beautiful looking, extremely rare piece of U.S. military history which I have been proud to have in my collection and I'm sure that you would enjoy having in yours. I have never fired this rifle but it dry functions properly and is 100% intact. The rifle ships with 1-15 round mag in a hard case for maximum protection. This rifle has been represented here through images and description with 100% accuracy as I know it and if you are not comfortable buying it based on this information Do Not Make the Purchase. All sales are final on this rifle. This rifle is C&R Eligible. The back story. Over the last 30 plus years in the gun business I have acquired some really nice surplus firearms. These guns came from Gun Shows, private collections, and private individuals that I have met along the way, as well as, on occasion, what I would deem as the best of a particular lot when it came in here to Classic. Well, all good things must end and at this point in my life it is time to downsize a little and that includes letting go of some of these "Gun Safe Queens" that I have typically only pulled out to clean ever so often. Now don't get me wrong, there was a time when I would not have even considered giving up one of these firearms as they have been very special to me. However, my daughters show no interest in inheriting them, and I've decided that I would rather see them in the hands of folks that would relish them, than to have them to continue sit in a dark safe here at Classic. Each gun from my private collection is unique and they will sell individually by serial #, so when that gun is gone, it is gone and irreplaceable. At least from me. If you no longer see this rifle in inventory, you will know that it has sold.
