Intro and Top 5 Canik Pistol Overview

The hosts from Classic Firearms welcome viewers back and introduce Kai, Jason, and their guest Adam from Century and Canik. They joke around about Adam being tall and about always choosing "violence" with friendly banter before getting into the main topic. They explain that Adam has been on the channel many times and that they’ve even run drills where they beat him using his own guns. This time, instead of a range challenge, they’re in the video room to talk through what they consider the top five Canik pistols of all time. Kai and Jason have already put together their own ranked list, and Adam is there to react, agree, or disagree, and explain which models he prefers and why. They mention that it’s been a hectic year with political shifts and fluctuating gun sales, but that it’s always fun to get together and talk about how the Canik lineup has evolved. The goal is to walk through the progression from the original duty-style handgun to competition builds and modern concealed carry options, and to see where Adam’s opinions line up with the Classic Firearms team.

Canik TP9 SF: The Original Service Pistol

Jason kicks off the countdown with the number five spot: the Canik TP9 SF. He calls it the OG and Adam agrees, explaining that this is the pistol that really put Canik on the map as a polymer, striker-fired handgun in the U.S. market. Drawing on his Turkish background and experience with the brand, Adam notes that more than 50 nations issue Canik pistols to their military or law enforcement, and the TP9 SF is a big part of that global duty history. They describe it as a straightforward, duty-style sidearm that checks all the expected boxes for a service handgun. It works well as a nightstand gun or an on-the-hip sidearm and is known for being affordable and widely produced. Adam points out that the hugely popular TP9 SFX, with its longer slide and barrel, was developed from this same platform and went on to become one of Canik’s bestselling models. Even though newer and more specialized designs have come along, they agree that the TP9 SF still deserves a place in the top five because of its foundational role and its continued value as a reliable, budget-friendly service pistol.

SFX Rival and Rival S: Competition-Focused Upgrades

Next, the discussion moves to the Canik SFX Rival and Rival S, which represent the competition-focused side of the lineup. The SFX Rival debuted at SHOT Show 2022 and earned the Industry Choice Awards Handgun of the Year for 2022, while the steel-framed Rival S took the same honor in 2023. Adam explains that these pistols were purpose-built for competitive shooting, with extensive input from Team Canik captain Nils Jonasson, a highly accomplished shooter. Nils worked closely with engineers in Turkey to refine everything from the barrel and slide to the grip shape and internal components. The Rival series is known for its flat trigger with a crisp 90-degree break, a diamond-cut aluminum shoe, a pull weight under four pounds, and an extremely short reset of under 1.5 millimeters. The pistols feature aggressive slide serrations, enhanced sights, barrel fluting, and an optics-ready system that allows co-witnessing with mounted optics. An external magwell locks into an internally flared frame insert to speed up reloads. The Rival models ship with an expanded case, holster, and a robust accessory kit, giving shooters a turnkey competition setup at a price point well below many high-end race guns in the $1,000–$2,000 range, while still performing in that arena.

MC9 Micro-Compact and Minute Man Edition

The third slot is given to the MC9 family, with special attention to a Minute Man edition produced in partnership with Gun Owners of America and offered exclusively through Classic Firearms. A portion of the proceeds from that version supports the organization. The hosts describe the MC9 as part of the modern push toward ever-smaller concealed carry pistols, where makers chase minimal width and short barrels while still trying to maintain practical capacity. The MC9 is a micro-compact with roughly a one-inch width and a three-inch barrel, designed specifically for everyday carry. It ships optics-ready from the factory and allows co-witnessing with a mounted optic, adding features that some earlier micro-compacts lacked. The team praises its size and capacity but also notes that for shooters with larger hands, the standard MC9 can feel snappy and harder to control during fast strings of fire, especially when using the flush-fit magazine. Despite that, the MC9 platform earned a concealed carry handgun of the year award in 2024, underscoring how well it hits the mark for its intended role. Those same limitations in grip length and shootability are what led directly to the development of the extended L and LS variants.

MC9 L and LS: Extended Grip and Slide Variants

Building on the MC9 concept, the conversation shifts to the MC9 L and MC9 LS, introduced in 2024 as answers to the trade-offs of ultra-small carry guns. Both versions extend the grip, giving shooters more surface area and improved texturing for better control, particularly for those with larger hands. This longer grip also boosts capacity to 17+1 rounds on both models. The LS variant adds roughly half an inch to the barrel and slide, increasing sight radius and helping to tame muzzle rise and recoil. Adam and the hosts explain that these changes make the pistols more stable during rapid fire while still keeping them suitable for concealed carry. They highlight how the extended grip and slide make it easier to maintain a solid hold when hands are sweaty or under stress, and to keep rounds on target at longer distances. At the same time, the MC9 L and LS preserve the optics-ready mounting system and co-witness capability that define the MC9 line, giving shooters a more controllable option without sacrificing modern features.

Canik Prime: Integrally Compensated U.S.-Made Model

The final segment focuses on the Canik Prime, which one of the hosts calls a personal favorite in the entire lineup. The Prime is built around an integrally compensated design that uses a three-port barrel, an integral blast chamber, and a specially cut slide that vents gas through ports near the muzzle to reduce muzzle rise. The slide features aggressive machining and porting, while the barrel is fluted with the word "Prime" machined into it for a distinctive look. Internally, the pistol uses the same flat, 90-degree break trigger that debuted on the Rival series, with a diamond-cut aluminum shoe and a light, crisp pull. The grip texturing is very aggressive and represents a refinement of earlier Canik patterns, giving shooters a locked-in feel. The Prime comes with tritium night sights front and rear, is optics-ready with co-witness capability, and offers a 17+1 capacity. It ships with a G-Code holster and a premium presentation case similar to what comes with the Rival models. A key point the team emphasizes is that the Canik Prime is produced by Canik USA at their West Palm Beach facility, carrying a made-in-America marking that they’re proud to showcase as part of the brand’s growth.
