Brutus' Description

We are so proud to offer this high quality AMD-63 variation AK rifle with original FEG receiver. Rifles are professionally finished and feature a new U.S. made barrel and highly desirable Tapco G-2 trigger group. Our Side Fold ( AMD-65 Versions ) all feature the original wood or polymer grips while our Fixed Stock ( AMD 63 Versions ) all have the black polymer grips with U.S. Made Buttstocks.
Note : These rifles are built from original surplus part sets. Metal components have been professionally parkerized to a like new finish however grips and forearms are original and may show some rub or finish wear. Trust me though, overall these are nice.

Built to our specs from original AMD 65 parts that originated from original high cap rifles ( No receiver cut opens ).  This means that the bolt, bolt carrier, etc.. were made to handle double stack mags. The heavy wall receiver is marked with the original FEG markings.  They are well built using a new U.S. made barrel, with the gas port, front and rear sight blocks aligned carefully, assembled and then the entire assembly is parkerized. Each rifle is tested with a variety of mags prior to shipping.

This is our Type II Variation with the Phoenix Technologies Stock and it comes to us with 1-30 round mag and so that is the way we ship it. However twenty round mags are original to the AMD rifle due to the front vertical grip making the 30's a little difficult to insert and extract... 30's will go in and out but must be maneuvered around the forward grip. However, you may also want to purchase a 20 round mag with this variation.

The AMD series of AK rifle is lightweight , accurate, and highly maneuverable along with featuring what is probably the finest AK muzzle break ever designed. Very limited quantities... Get yours today.

Note - This sku is our type 2 rifle. Our type two rifle utilizes a Phoenix Techologies Polymer Buttstock while our type 1 rifle utilizes a Tapco Butt Stock.
The type 2 ships with a  30 rd mag only.  Otherwise these rifles are virtually identical.

Great little AK
Review by UncleDude on 4/5/2016

William took my order the Old Fashion Way, over the phone. Thank you William. My 19 year old daughter fired 400 rounds without a glitch. She said 'Thanks Dad, tossed the rifle in the back of her truck and drove away. Can I get a discount if I buy a other 63?
Phenomenal AK: one of the few left at this price and this level of quality!
Review by Jason on 2/20/2017
Quality
Out of the box, was very impressed. Everything tightly fit together, nothing rattled, no canted components ... everything is nearly perfectly inline, the rivet job looks very well done. The only pieces that appeared used were the pistol grips - I believe they are surplus so ... its understandable. Speaking of pistol grips, they are a slightly grippy rubber feeling hard plastic - quite comfortable. Regarding their configuration ... I gotta say, the inverted forward pistol grip is quite genius .. I find it extremely ergonomic and comfortable.
For those worrying about heatin issues of the front handguard / gas tube etc etc ... if you shoot like me, its not a problem at all. My first trip to the range I put around 70-80rnds through her over the course of a couple hours ... the only warm to the touch piece was the barrel. The gas tube, and handguard were still quite cool to the touch. I can only see the heat problem arising if your doing constant mag dumps.
I was on the fence bout whether I would have to change out furniture, I can say ... thats no longer the plan at this point ... given how easy it is to use and heats not an issue for me.
The buttstock isnt too bad, Im not too much of a fan of grippy rubber buttpads on the end because it tends to hang up on my clothing n stuff ... but no big deal really, its nice that it makes it a tad softer shooter.
The muzzle break ... is actually quite effective from what I can tell. This AK is extremely light compared to my yugo npap and the felt recoil is about the same if not less. So I will be keeping it on there.
Its odd, they say these are factory sighted in ... using a bore sighter mine appeared to be sighted in perfectly ... but in real world I had to make quite some adjustments to be perfectly dead on. From factory, the front post was offset quite(horizontally) a bit and I couldnt understand why given nothing had any major cants ... but either way, the end result was the front post pretty much centering the front post and this came out to be the perfect zero even tho bore sigther would tell you otherwise. I used the 2 setting @ 25meters as my sight in method. This came out to near perfection for 1 setting @ 120ish yards. The windage was perfect at both distances! I may end up putting an RDS on it to make aiming bit easier =)
I was shooting steel so I dont have an accuracy measurements, and AK irons dont lend themselves well to achieving tight groups .. at least w/ my eyes rofl! But, at the 120yds I was hitting 8" steel a good 70-80% of the time w/ irons. The 25meter sightin was on paper and groups were holes touching each other =)
My 20rnd magpul magazines work extremely well, theres very little mag wobble. I use the 20rnd to make magazine changes on this particular design easier then the 30rnd.
Trigger - not much to say, its your standard single hook Tapco G2 trigger, really lightweight compared to most stock battle rifles. Mine doesnt particularly feel "multi staged" at all. Its not entirely smooth, but its short and lightweight, requiring very little effort. The bolt carrier is exhibiting peening due to the hardness of the hammer... I hope it doesnt progress to far, will have to keep an eye on this, most AK's that have this issue, the peening goes to a certain point then stops.
I do wish the beyonet lug existed ... I love the way cleaning rod looks on AK ... unfortunately, doesnt seem to be an option on this one due to lack of the lug to hold the rod in place.
I installed the ALG recoil spring prior to shooting, I like heavier springs in my AK's to absorb more recoil energy and avoid battering the rear trunion hard.... its a very nice spring .. comparable to the wolff extra power spring.
After initial range trip ... Im still impressed by how tight everything fits together, there is absolutely no rattling of anything except the buttstock sling loop =P
All SN's matched on mine.
Receiver and trunions - original hungarian manufactured. The front trunion is forged(Im not sure bout the back one).
Well.... believe that covers most everything =)
Overall, extremely pleased and this will probably be one of the best offers at this price range ... bound to disappear sooner than later.
Pick up one while you can!
Great weapon at a great price

Like many I thought 500 bucks for an ak, I shouldn't get my hopes up.i order it on the 7th and was at my local FFL on the 10th. Upon inspection it appeared everything was as it should be so I decided to take it out to the in-laws in the sticks and put some rounds through it. At 50 yards I was hitting an old 2ft by 2ft bow bag and from where the stuffing seemed to be flying out and spots of dirt flying behind hit it was hit very accurate. This thing chewed through the cheap Chinese ammo like it was nothing. No jams, no FTF. The muzzle break was a little loose but with a push of the pin and a one 1/4 turn it was tight with no wobble. The tapco mag had some wobble but nothing that interfered with the feed of rounds. I've seen some reviews on here about sights being canted but mine came fine. All I can say is if you keep looking at this gun and don't know if you should buy it, STOP. For the price this weapon is more than worth it. It might not be a household name but it performs like a champ. Jump at this rifle like a fat kid on cake.
Good shooter but...

I like the gun, but I wished I would have gotten a Yugo for a few extra bucks. Out of the box the front sight was so canted I couldn't even hit paper at 50 yards with the front bead all the way to the left. Fired flawless in the 350 rounds I put through it. After inspection I noticed the bolt carrier is "mushrooming" due to Tapco trigger.
Great Gun

Ok, this is my second review of this gun. First was my impressions of gun after I picked it up, this review is after I took it to the range today. Rifle shots great right out of the box, no hick-ups. Did have some problem with some steel 20 rd mags, but after I ran a Tapco through it, they (steel mags) ran flawless. All in all this is a great rifle for the price. Snatch one up if you can while they are still available. I also have some Magpul furniture coming next week buttstock, grip and handguard. Looking to go the "Tacticool" route.
Good Buy

Gun came to FFL in 2 days, ordered on a Tuesday 1/24 arrived on 1/27. Haven't shot it yet, maybe this weekend. Gun was packaged good and from what I've seen it's a well put together gun. Oh, just beware, I took off the dust cover and that sucker was hell getting it back on. All in all this was a good purchase and I look to purchase more from Classic Firearms in the future. If you're in the market for an AK, grab one of these......
Very good for price.

Most of the reviews on here tell you the same thing. The Hungarian parts are really well made, the finish is strong, and the rivets were done very professionally. I have noticed slight mag wobble with a Yugo surplus magazine and the supplied Tapco magazine, though there have been no failure to fires or feeding issues. Another slight issue is the front handgrip on my rifle is a little bit loose, it requires some tightening every once in a while. Probably the biggest issue some might have for it is the non chrome lined barrel. For me personally this rifle is a very good deal, as I plan to switch out the barrel when / if it wears out. Know that you need a surplus gas tube ( not too terrible to find) if you want to put a different upper handguard on it. All in all, a very good and unique rifle, certainly a good buy for the price.
A fantastic value at $499
Review by Gigantopithecus on 12/18/2016

This is a well built rifle with an original Hungarian FEG receiver, forged front trunion, and forged bolt. No cast parts to worry about! I filed out the recoil spring opening slightly on the receiver cover as it was a pain to re-install. I replaced the horrendous metal front hand guard/grip with a Tapco Intrafuse Galil style AKM handguard I had in a spare parts box with some minor dremel work on the handguard. The gas tube is now covered by the pop in upper guard of the handguard. I also installed a used Tapco SAW style ak pistol grip and a US made slant brake to reduce weight at the muzzle. The finish on the rifle is very well done for an AK, and the supplied buttstock is fine for now. Mag wobble is very slight with Chinese, Romy, and Hungarian metal mags. I don't have any Magpul ak mags to check for fit and function, but the supplied Tapco polymer mag works fine. The point of aim out of the box was a little low (adjusted with a keychain style front sight elevation tool), but the front sight post is straight with zero cant. Trigger is surprisingly good with no binding. The front sight post is at the standard AKM distance for a 16" barrel. The rivets on this rifle are correctly done. Time will tell on the barrel, but I shot consistent 2.5" groups at 100 yds with golden tiger ammo (not too shabby for 50 year-old eyes). After 300 rounds out of different 30 round mags, I had no FTF or FTE and have not noticed any loose parts or stock separation from the rear trunion. An Arsenal it is not, but a FEG manufactured receiver, trunion, and bolt/carrier for 500 bucks is in my opinion a good buy. Sadly, the days of $189 MAK-90's during the early 90's are long gone, but I am well pleased with this shooter grade AMD-63.
Hungarian AK Gem

At first I was skeptical spending 499.00 for an AK; I was expecting a cool looking piece of novelty wall hanger junk. This gun has impressed me. Accuracy was decent at 25 and 50 yards, I will get better as I get used to the course sights and the trigger. I was as accurate shooting off hand as I was off the bench, oddly enough. Sights were very close to being dead on at 50 yds out of the box, at the battle sight zero. The ergos may seem funky at first, but I grew to like the front pistol grip. The rifle cycled wolf, tula, hornady, and M67 Yugo surplus flawlessly with the included TAPCO mag. I bought a cheap Bulgarian sling for it, which goes well with the rifle. Weight on the scale was exactly 7 lbs, with unloaded magazine. The remove-able muzzle brake weighed almost 4 oz. Replace that with a slant style and you have an AK that weighs 6 3/4 lbs.
Go for it!

I ordered one of these AMD-63 clones that Clearview Investments assembled for Classic Firearms for $549.99, I figured what the hell. I ordered a few hours before the polls closed election Tuesday and it arrived midday on the 14th, and I'm only one state away, so they're plenty busy down there. Haha! Don't be too hard on those boys and girls, Ben!

I'm really surprised. This thing is damn fine!

Looks to be built from matching-numbered parts kits, on original FEG Hungarian receivers. They don't appear to have been milled out from single-stack receivers. I talked with the owner of CII a few months ago and he said that he bought the remaining stock of everything FEG had that was AMD-related and built them exclusively for Classic Firearms. Numbers match on the bolt carrier, top cover and front trunnion. Sights are straight on, they installedTapco G2 trigger, fit and finish are excellent, and the rivets are all uniform an tight. This was my biggest concern besides headspacing. The rivets are gorgeous. I've been building AKs from kits since the days of the $99 Romy G kits (how many folks remember those?) and take my word for it, these rivets are top notch.

There is a safety lever stop riveted in above the trigger guard and mag release so there won't be any over-travel with the safety lever. It came with the old surplus plastic gray grips, and this Phoenix Technology plastic buttstock, which I wasn't too crazy about at first glance, but it's pretty sweet. It has a hinged rubber buttpad that snaps in with a detent and swings down for storage. Nice an solid.

I plan on taking it out this weekend and running about half a case through it as is, but it definitely needs a cleaning rod, and I'm scrapping the U.S. made AMD brake for a Tapco slant brake. I just can't stand the look of the things, personal preference. The welded Hungarian brakes on the TGI AMDs from a few years ago were alright, but it doesn't look right on the these 16" barrels. I'm going to swap this furniture out for some original Hungarian wood, so the only other thing I need to do is track down a gas tube so I can cut it down and get a wood upper HG on this thing.

If you were on the fence about one, you won't be disappointed. The only problem you may encounter is upon disassembly. The receiver cover fits a bit tight. You may encounter a bit of a problem getting the recoil spring detent to pop through the cutout in the receiver cover. If you do, don't fret, she's an AK, just take a hammer and tap on the bottom rear face of the cover until it seats and the detent pops in place.

Thank you Ben and company for another excellent purchase! Just wish I knew Trump was going to win and I could have gotten this for $50 cheaper two weeks later! Hahahaha! Crazy times.

After owning and collecting AK 47s for quite some time, I had a pretty good idea what I was getting. Boy was I wrong! As others have said, this AKM is the best value for 2016 and most likely beyond. Buy these AMDs by the bakers dozen and hand them out to every God fearing, Gun loving, 2A believing gun lover that you can find!

Bang for your buck AK
Review by Dave on 11/10/2016
Quality
I purchased this rifle from classic firearms and received it 4 days after my order was placed. A friend of mine has the AMD 65 and after shooting his, I had to order me one but I prefer a solid butt stock so I bought the AMD 63. This rifle is extremely well put together. I have shot 400 rounds down the pipe with absolutely no issues at all. It chewed through every type of 7.62 ammo I put in the magazine. After field stripping the rifle I had a small issue installing the dust cover, broke out my file and within a couple minutes it was fitting correctly. Front sight was canted slightly to the left, no big issue. If your looking a good bang for your buck AK, the AMD 63 is the way to go. Thanks Classic Firearms
Updated AMD 63 Review
Review by Phil on 11/8/2016

I had previously reviewed this rifle noting that the top cover was extremely tight. I ordered an Arsenal top cover as a replacement and it fits like a glove. What is even more cool is the new top cover is a darker color and gives the rifle a two tone look along with the stock and grips. I also added a surplus sling to the rifle to close out the deal. Cycles very well and is extremely accurate. I am seriously thinking about one more AK (the AMD 65) before it is too late to order these rifles. Thanks again to Classic for their fine selection of firearms.
Very nice

I just shot my AMD 65 for the first time - shot 3 mags - the one that came with it and 2 of the S. Korean mags - all performed flawlessly. The groups were very good but the sights were off - I am tweaking them now. My main problem is I am zeroing them in at 25 yards and not 100. Still, the groups were very tight - I am impressed with the gun and the accuracy. No regrets - I'd buy a crate of them if I had the money :) For an AK of this quality and functional integrity - a fantastic buy.
Not perfect, but a good starter AK

I picked one of these up from Classic after watching a couple of reviews on YouTube, I have taken the rifle out to the range at least four times now, the barrel shoots accurately using a variety of steel cased ammo, the rifle is a very light feel compared to some other models from other countries. I have made some upgrades to improve some of the minor issues I was having with the gun, overall pleased with this rifle, I picked it up for $499 on sale, its a good starter AK and for the price I think its worth picking one up. If you don't already own an AK and looking to get one without spending top dollar, this is it, I would recommend it.
Tightest receiver cover ever
Review by Phil on 10/29/2016

I have been looking at this rifle for sometime, finally decided to pull the trigger and buy one. Classic deliver very fast and it came packaged very well. Upon receipt I decided to field strip and visually inspect the rifle. The receiver simply would not go back. The tolerance at the back of the cover and the timing was way too tight. Had to resort to a small plastic mallet. I am debating contacting the distributor of the rifle to see if I can get a replacement. Perhaps it will loosen up overtime but this seemed excessive. The rifle itself looks fantastic and is different which is what I was looking for. Thank you classic for great customer service as always.

Ordered on Sunday received on rifle on Wednesday ! The supplied Phoenix butt stock is good to go but I wanted a fold that was light and would give me a good cheek weld. Next up is the Texas Armament dust cover rail for a red dot which is on it's way. Thanks Classic for speedy prompt delivery and a great deal !

For the money this rifle can't be beat!
If you are thinking about buying an AKM, this AMD63 does not disappoint.

My rifle arrived at my FFL 5 days after I placed my order. It was well packed inside two boxes with lots of paper to keep it secure.

Upon initial inspection I was impressed at the construction.
Front sight looks straight, no visible cant. Gas block and rear sight block seem very straight. Rivets look good. Stock attached properly. Finish is evenly applied. Slight magazine wobble, but nothing to worry about.

Only minor issue is that the rubber pad on the stock had started to work loose. A few minutes and a little super glue fixed that, I like the stock. It has a hollow storage compartment, but it seems sturdy enough.

Took it to the range yesterday for the first time. Everything worked as it should. Action is smooth, Tapco trigger is fine. Accuracy seems acceptable for my ability. Looking forward to adding some accessories soon.

As someone that has been burned buying a more expensive, lower quality AK style rifle online before, I was slightly wary about buying this one, but the other reviews were good and I am in agreement 100 percent.
I am very pleased with my purchase. This rifle is well built and should last a long time.

Well worth the price tag.

When I ordered this rifle it was on sale for $499. So after it was all said and done my cost was under $540. It is what it is so my expectations, you get wat you pay for, were reserved. With that in mind I bought this rifle as a ranch/investment gun. Shipping was fast, as a matter of fact, it arrived 2 days early and I live in the southern most tip of Texas so that was impressive. When I received the rifle the first thing I noticed was a straw sticking out of the receiver. Yes, a drinking straw was used as a chamber flag. Yep, that expectations thing was coming to mind. Inspection of the rifle showed that it appeared to be well put together and it's very light (just over 6 pounds without the mag).. All the rivets looked solid. I used the sheet of paper test on the rivets. If a sheet of paper doesn't slide between the rivet and receiver then you're good and these were all well placed. The coating/finish looked consistent and even. Overall aesthetics were very good. The gas block was slightly canted to the left but the front sight looked straight and in line. I cleaned the barrel and a close inspection of the barrel at the muzzle and chamber revealed a roughly cut barrel. You can literally see ridges in the chamber and in the grooves of the barrel at the muzzle. Think of these ridges like the rings of a cut tree trunk. You can count these ridges in this barrel using magnifying glass, so I was not expecting very good accuracy. The muzzle brake looks and is big. It's like most AK's muzzle brakes loose and not a tight fit.
Firing the rifle was typical with no problems feeding or ejecting three different types of Russian ammo (Monarch, Tula and Silver Bear). I used 3 different mags (Magpul, Tapco and Bulgarian surplus) with no issues in feeding ammo or fit in the mag well. Groups at 100 yards using the aforementioned ammo were what I expected a 6-8 inch group and some flyers out to 10inches at 100. Typical I thought, considering the rough cut barrel and again $499 expectations. I Went home and cleaned the rifle and went back to the range the next day with the same results. Then I looked at the muzzle brake and thought, that loose thing has to be having some affect so I tightened it snuggly against the barrel. The ports of the brake were now pointing almost vertical and were about 10 to 15 degrees canted to the left. Firing for effect my groups came down to 2 to 4 inches at 100. Some 3 shot strings were even under 2 inches using the Monarch ammo. Having the brake in this position doesn't really affect felt recoil, at least not for me, and it actually looks kinda cool. Mind you this is all with open sights and I'm an old guy over 50 who needs readers (reading glasses for you young guys) for close up "seeing stuff" like those remedial AK sights. Overall I was impressed with the rifles look, fit and accuracy. It totally exceeded my expectations especially the accuracy considering the barrel. I've been reloading for over 25 years and have had many rifles come through my hands. I was expecting this one to be just another ranch, beater behind the seat rifle. I'll be buying another one as as I can. My advise is get one while they are still easy to obtain, available ,legal to own and relatively inexpensive.

Just got the AMD63 the other day and it looks great. The fit and finish is very well done as well as the rivets. I took it to the range and it ran flawlessly. This AK has a very smooth action and dead accurate right out of the box. Don't hesitate to pick one up and save your money on buying AK's that cost more. You can always upgrade this one later. Thanks Classic for a great rifle shipped very quickly.
Nice AK at an affordable price.

Just received my AMD 63 which is my first AK and I'm happy with it so far. Fit and finish are good except where the stock meets the end of the receiver...there's a little gap but the stock is solid. The only rattle anywhere on the gun is the swivel for the sling on the stock! The action is smooth. I bought a cleaning rod from Classic but it won't fit due to the placement of the vertical grip on the lower hand guard but no big deal. I bought steel Korean twenty round magazines to supplement the thirty round Tapco mag supplied with the AMD. The Korean mags fit tightly in the AMD...no wobble unlike the Tapco. Overall, the AMD 63 from Classic Firearms appears to offer great value. I can't wait to get it out to the range.

Bought 2, should have bought 4. Excellent trigger excellent finish. Only mags it doesn't like is the Korean one's I have.
Very accurate soft shooter. I installed new front posts, and 50 yard groups were impressive.
Bcg is milled nicely. I have a slight can't to the right but not bad at all, very slight. Other one is dead on.
Good Rifle

This rifle function properly and has a good finish. I haven't had any malfunction at all.

If you value simplicity than this is the gun for you. I can disassemble and reassemble in less than a min. Tried 3 different brands of mags and all functions great (Magpul mags has the least wobble). Tried 5 different brands of ammo, shot 100s of rounds and didn't have any issues.

Having basic knowledge of firearm handling is important with this rifle because of the exposeded gas tube and metal hand guards. However, I was able to replace my hand guards and handle with no issues.

This is a very affordable way to have the power of the 7.62x39. Overall, great Ak.

This was my first purchase with Classic and I'm very impressed. Shipping was fast and my favorite local FFL was already on file. This is the best deal for an AK there is right now. The price has already went up fifty bucks since I ordered and I'm afraid prices will continue to rise as we get closer to November. I'm considering getting the AMD 65 as well. First time out I ran 120 rounds thru several different mags no problems at all.
Good build

This is built from an original AMD kit that originally comes with a shortened barrel so the gas tube is also shortened. Because they put in a full 16 inch barrel in this AK, the barrel appears to be elongated. Overall, it's a quality gun that ran reliably at the range. The rivets are well put on and the finish is decent. Mine had no canting and the rifle was firm and straight. It shoot pretty accurate as well.

This is my first time ordering online and I Ordered this am63 ( 63 because these take standard ak stamped receiver stocks unlike the 65 ) Monday night came in the next Monday. Looks great everything appears to function great will be taking it out this weekend and will be ordering from classic firearms in the future!
Better than century
Review by Joe on 8/10/2016

All i can say is color me impressed. Century aks are now in the 700 range, and the ones i have handled aren't half this gun. There are no defects, the trigger is crisp, there is no rattling or wobbling anywhere. Magpul akm furniture will fit if you do not like the amd look. If you're looking for a solid ak under 1000 bucks, this is it. This is what an ak is supposed to be as opposed to century having uncentered sights, and incorrectly installed muzzle brakes.

Entry Level AK
Review by Frank on 8/6/2016
Quality
I had been looking around for an entry level AK and thought this Hungarian AMD 63 AK-47 would fit the bill. Took it to the range with cheap ammo and was very pleased with the performance with iron sights. 300 rounds without any issues. I had a little trouble re-installing the dust cover after the first cleaning but did some very minor filing to resolve the problem. 2 out of the four Tapco mags I bought needed some dremel work as well. Overall I am very pleased but I need to figure out a way to install a rail on the dust cover or gas tube to apply some optics . . . the iron sights were difficult for me to access.
Works Great!

Before I pulled the trigger and actually purchased this firearm I did a lot of research on the AMD platform as a whole. Is this a 'by the numbers' 100 percent AMD variant? No. Several forums will proclaim there is no such thing as an AMD-63 and these are Franken-rifles and they would never buy one.

I beg to differ however, I have fired at least 500 rounds through this firearm without a single issue. Franken-rifle or not this thing works. The Tapco trigger is sweet and allows for quick follow up shots. Like other AK variants it is extremely durable and easy to maintain and clean. Addressing the reverse pistol front grip it does not get in the way of my 30 round magazines although 40 round magazines might be a tight fit. There was a small amount of movement with the Tapco magazine but it didn't effect the rifle at all. I found the Korean magazines work just as well with less movement. I've read a lot on forums about the muzzle brake and how it "doesn't really look tacticool." Whether its tacticool or not, stand next to your fiancé as she fires every possible round of surplus ammo in your possession (true story and she was scared of it before she pulled the trigger haha) and tell me that the muzzle brake doesn't have an attitude about it. However, if you don't like the muzzle brake, no worries, its pinned so it can be exchanged for a different one if that's your thing.

The only problem I had would be the stiff front sight I can't seem to adjust the front post for elevation or windage. But still it isn't necessarily a huge deal I've seen other AK parts builds that sell for more than this but deliver less in the realms of finish and performance. Overall, five stars it works well, goes bang every time, cheaper to own, maintain, and, in my opinion, more fun than my AR15. I will definitely be purchasing the 65 variant with the folding stock soon. Thanks Classic Firearms!

150 rounds, couple different types of ammo and a few different mags. Not one hitch! Its my first AK and i couldn't be happier. I can't believe it but I think I may like it better than any AR I've owned.

Absolutely the only complaint I have is the safety lever. It tends to ride up over the cover if engaged. If you forget to disengage it before actuating the charge handle it will push it upward and lodge the bolt against the internal safety arm. Takes a bit of jostling to get it loose. I'll do my research and see what my options are to remedy that.

Rifle arrived in perfect shape! Not a blemish or rivet out of place. It looks like it just left Hungary! All rIvets were done perfectly! Yes I checked each one from top to bottom. The receiver is a real FEG receiver. It had no indentations on It from the rivets being pressed in too hard like alot of ak-47s. It has been heat treated and hardened. I have 3 industrial drill bits that can attest to the hardness. All 3 bits are now garbage! But the scope rail is mounted! I also used cutting oil! The finish is perfect on the entire rifle. It is parkerized. The sights are straight and not canted. It did not come with a cleaning rod. It was just the rifle, magazine (Tapco 30 rd), and generic ak-47 booklet. This is my second purchase from classic firearms. It will not be my last. Very happy with my purchase. I have added a magpul handguard to it. You need the AKM version handguard and some patience to custom fit it. There is a video on line that tells you how. Worth the watch to avoid burned fingers. Also regular AK stocks should fit. Have not had the chance to shoot it yet but that will come soon.
I've had issues...But all is not bad!
Review by Shea on 4/20/2016

So, I bought this rifle a while back thinking to myself, "500$ for an AK, that's a steal!". I have now learned that issues persist with a 500$ AK47.

Right off the bat, I threw a Magpul Zhukov-S stock and UTG quad rail on it, no issues with fitment or comfort, they're great!

First issue I've noticed, certain magazines will not work in this gun. I don't mean they won't fit, almost all of them do, but for instance, the steel surplus mag I have causes my rifle to jam and/or not feed the bullet. The included Tapco mag works flawlessly though, which is good, because they're great mags and only about 7-13$ a pop.

Second issue is that my rifle has developed hammer follow within the trigger group. This rifle comes issue with a Tapco G2 trigger, which is fine, it has a terrific weight and very clean break, out of all of my guns, it's my favorite trigger, BUT, sometimes, when the bolt cycles, the hammer does not catch down and the hammer follows the bolt forward, so when you go to pull the trigger on the next round, nothing happens. The easiest fix for this is when you pull the trigger, wait for the bolt to cycle, and let the trigger reset by letting off the trigger.

3rd issue, front sight post is canted to the left, which I wouldn't care about if the rifle came from the warehouse sighted in for me! To zero AK's you need a special tool to adjust windage and elevation. Which I don't have, I used a vice and sockets to get it partially in place, and it's still not completely zero'd. I tried using C-clamps at the range, but the windage adjustment on this bad boy is REALLY hard to move!

Minor setback, the compensator on the end of the barrel wiggles, but that can be filed down, and is apparently common on AK's in general, so that's no big deal. Just a minor annoyance.

Other than those issues, my rifle is fine, and it's a blast to shoot! Just know that if you purchase it, there's a strong possibility you may encounter issues that I ran into!

Living in CA, I have to do the 10 day wait. I got to see the rifle and work the action, and test the trigger out. I own a few eastern bloc rifles, and spent some time in the sand box. I have seen the good and the bad of AK variants. First impressions: I was very pleased with the overall construction, and outward appearance of the rifle. The action is smoother than my VEPR, the Tapco G2 trigger has a nice, kind of 2 two stage feel to it. The stock has a hidden storage area for a cleaning kit or something small. The stock is a standard Eastern Bloc length. It is short, I am 6'2" and I already knew I was replacing it. Overall I would give this an 8.5 out of 10, and at 499, I doubt you will find any AK out there as good as this.

Gun is of good quality. It was delivered only 4 days after I ordered it. My only complaints would be that the handguard is slightly loose, but I'm replacing that anyway. Also the tapco magazine that comes with it is extremely loose in the receiver. I haven't had a chance to try a different mag, but I believe it's the mag not the receiver. This weapon is well worth the price and I would highly recommend it
Just what I was hoping for. Impressed.

Picked this rifle up today and immediately changed out the grips. The stock ones are just something that you either love or hate. Stripped her down and everything looked great. The muzzle break seems lose though it appears pinned but idk enough about it to know if this normal tolerance or not. I'm gonna contact classic on that one. Tapco mag seems extremely sloppy but regardless she chewed up 30 rounds.....I couldn't help myself. Probably should of waited to c if the muzzle break was dangerous. Oh well u only live once. Overall a solid starter ak variant for 500$ the lop seems a little short for my arms but that's an easy fix. Can't wait to blast some innocent 2 liters or pumpkins.

At first I was a little skeptical about purchasing this weapon, but after doing some reviewing on YouTube and reading about it I decided to pull the trigger a get one. Glad I got it when it was $499.99 saved some dollars. Right out of the box the weapon looks really nice. The only issue was the cheap looking front and rear hand grips..they don't look good on this weapon at all. I removed the front hand guard and grip with a knew Mission First Tactical polymer grip and the rear hand grip with a Hogue rubber grip. Now it looks much more tactical and AR like. The barrel and receiver are well built and functioned flawlessly. I took the gun to the range yesterday and fired 40 rounds through it without any issues. The Tapco magazine that comes with the gun worked like a charm. Lastly you if want to add optics to the gun I recommend purchasing a picatinny rail that goes from rear fixed sight over dust cover to buttstock. This way you get the scope closer to your eye. Overall I love the performance of this weapon so far and recommend it.

Just got the gun, more then I expected. But the real story behind the scenes is that I need this rifle for a class on firearm safety and active shooters that will have Ninety participants . I was really concerned about getting it in time for the class. I called classic and they said hold on let me check for you. When they came back on in 30 seconds I was told not to worry they were going in right now and pick it and get it shipped today. They did and I got the rifle two days later with time to spare. You guys are the BEST!!!

The Hungarian AMD 63 so far has been a great rifle. I have put about 100 rounds through it and not 1 hiccup. If you are considering an AK don't pass up on this one. I have added a UTG stock and a UTG rail kit. Make sure if you order a rail kit you order the one for a AMD 65 because that is the parts kit Classic Firearms used to make this rifle. I would definitely recommend this rifle.

Nicely put together rifle. The bolt action seems smooth. I have not been to the range yet, The only negative thing I have to say is the rear grip was a bit beat up and the way the lower hand guard/grip fit into the reciever is a bit wobely. I put a Magpul Zhukov stock and rear grip on mine. If you want to put some kind of optics on this know that the gas tube is NOT standard length because it's built from the shorter AMD 65 parts. I found 1 company making an intergrated tube and mounting rail for this rifle. to be added soon! I might change out the lower as well for somthing that feels a bit more stable. All in all a great value for an awesome looking rifle!

Phenomenal AK: one of the few left at this price and this level of quality!

As others have said, this AKM is the best value for 2016 and most likely beyond. Buy these AMDs by the bakers dozen and hand them out to every God fearing, Gun loving, 2A believing gun lover that you can find!

    Bang for your buck AK

    Review by Brad on 8/4/2016

    Review by Shea on 4/20/2016
    Quality
