The Hornady 451611 draws its inspiration from the iconic XTP bullet design, but is meticulously refined to create the ideal competition ammunition—HAP (Hornady Action Pistol) bullets. Unlike XTP bullets that feature folds and a cannelure to assist in controlled expansion and enhance terminal performance, these features have been left out in HAP bullets. This imparts the HAP bullets with a streamlined and balanced structure, along with a guarded nose that ensures regular and dependable feeding in automatics.

The distinct feature of these bullets is their hollow point design, which showcases a hollow cavity in the bullet's nose. This design promotes expansion upon impact, lending these bullets their characteristic impact performance.
