What a great get. These are original military contract, WWII era M1-Carbine rifles that have been either lightly or fully refurbished by our friends at James River Armory. We are selling them by manufacturer code and the ones being sold under this SKU have the manufacturing stamp I.B.M. Corp. This group of rifles was manufactured for the war effort by the International Business Machines Corporation... I.B.M. I.B.M produced 346,500 rifles for the war effort with a receiver stamping of I.B.M Corp. As an interesting bit of trivia, IBM was the last company added to the contractors who produced the U.S. Carbines. Also, The stamped/brazed variation of the carbine trigger housing was developed at IBM's Endicott facility. I.B.M manufactured rifles typically bring somewhat of a premium simply due to the name recognition and the industry giant that the I.B.M corporation went on to become. Rifles have and are being sold under their original serial numbers and have not been importer re-marked.
These were original WWII Era M1 Carbine rifles that were stored overseas for years before recently being re-imported back into the United States. All of these rifles have had all of their metal components fully re-blued back to a 100% metal finish. However, some of the stocks were candidates for a full refinish, while others were not, so in some cases the stocks were fully refurbished and in other cases, they were only de-greased and lightly refurbished. While all of the metal surfaced have been re-blued back to as close to the original finish as possible there will be some variances in the stocks and the wood even in terms of color and grain and some will be cosmetically more attractive than others. As such, we are offering a hand select option as well.
See video for details and a more complete description of each below.
So here is the full story. We took a small lot of qualifying rifles from our original group of M1-Carbines and sent them to our friends at James River Armory to re-furbish. James River Armory is the industry leader in bringing U.S. military firearms, especially M1 Garands and M1 Carbines, back to their original glory, while maintaining and in fact increasing their value. They dismantled them, de-greased them, and then professionally refurbished all the metal back to original as-issued standards on all of the rifles. As such, all of these rifles will have really good bluing on all metal surfaces. The stocks presented a somewhat greater challenge. Some of the stocks were dent and ding free enough to bring back to really close to new so on those they did a more complete full refurbish. Other stocks, while pretty good, could not have been refurbished fully without a deep sanding that would have removed excessive wood and we simply were not willing to do that. On those, they simply cleaned and degreased the wood and did a light refurbish to the stock. Regardless of the degree of refinishing all of these are beautiful and are some of the finest examples of original U.S. Military M1 Carbines ever seen on the U.S. market. In fact, I can honestly say that this is probably the nicest looking lot of original M1-Carbines anywhere in the country. Each rifle ships with one original 15 round magazine. See our accompanying video featuring these exact rifles for examples of what you can expect when you order. Note -We do offer a hand select for the best available cosmetically mostly based on the condition, color, grain pattern, and attractiveness of the stock since all of the metal finish is virtually identical. Also, a note about bore condition. While we never guarantee for bore condition we have checked many of these and the vast majority of the rifles that we have seen have had exceptional bores. The bottom line, this is a truly exceptional group of rifles.
