Intro and SHOT Show Day Four Kickoff

Day four coverage of SHOT Show 2022 opens with the Classic Firearms crew on the floor, noting that IWI is absent from the event. The hosts keep the energy up for the last day and briefly mention an ongoing Barrett M82 giveaway tied to the show. They then transition into their first stop, meeting up with Graham, known online as Photogenic Firearms, who is now working with Icon. The tone is casual and conversational as they set up to look at some of Icon’s Galil-style builds and discuss what makes them stand out.

Icon Micro G Galil-Style Pistols

At the Icon booth, Graham introduces the company’s Micro G model, a Galil-style pistol built from real 699 Micro Galil parts kits. Icon uses its own receivers and barrels and offers both standard and custom configurations. A key feature is the option for custom serial numbers of up to nine characters, available for individual buyers or dealers who want branded guns that are easy for customers to identify. The conversation highlights an example of a highly customized, gold-plated build done for Premier Body Armor, emphasizing Icon’s willingness to tailor aesthetics and markings to specific requests while retaining the Micro Galil-inspired platform.

Icon 13-Inch Galil Builds and Customization

Icon also shows a 13-inch Galil-style gun that expands on the Micro G concept. These builds use Micro Galil dust covers, shaved front sights, and Picatinny rails on the gas tubes, similar to certain Israeli configurations. The featured rifle is a limited edition model, while standard versions use welded rails. Icon offers custom Cerakote colors and the same custom serial number options on these longer guns. The goal is to keep the classic Galil design but add a modern twist with updated rail systems, finishes, and configuration choices. The segment closes with plans to link up later for range time and additional filming at a location Graham refers to as “the bunker.”

Black Rain Ordnance 9mm Pistol and Cerakote Capabilities

The next stop is Black Rain Ordnance, where Jeremy presents a new 9mm pistol with a 4-inch barrel and brace. The short front end leaves room for adding a suppressor. Black Rain highlights its ability to build rifles in multiple calibers, including 450 Bushmaster, 5.56, and .308, and to apply custom colors through its in-house Cerakote operation. The company runs two of only 28 specialized Cerakote robots, allowing detailed and consistent finishes. Jeremy notes that Black Rain has grown from a small shop into a large facility over 13 years, continually designing new products and preparing to release a 10/22-style platform in the spring to meet existing demand.

Black Rain Vegas Rifle and One-Off Custom Projects

Jeremy then showcases the SHOT Show 2022 Vegas rifle, a one-off AR-style build with extensive engraving and Cerakote work. Details include a dust cover marked “jackpot,” a pull-lever motif on the rear, “Viva Las Vegas” on the top, aces and triple sevens on the bottom, and a classic Las Vegas cowboy figure. The engravings are deeply cut and individually painted. Black Rain uses projects like this to demonstrate its ability to produce single custom rifles for events, giveaways, or charities such as Ducks Unlimited, as well as larger runs. The company has built a niche around colored and camouflaged guns, including a “tactical aloha” pattern, and continues to grow as more customers seek distinctive finishes beyond standard black rifles.

SAR USA SAR 9X Full-Size and Compact Pistols

At the SAR USA booth, Kaya introduces the SAR 9X line, an evolution of the SAR 9. The SAR 9X is a full-size pistol with similar dimensions but adds slide cutouts or vented slides, different color options, and red dot readiness. SAR 9X pistols come in a large red case that includes a weapon-mounted light, holster, and double magazine pouch, distinguishing them from standard models. The full-size version has a 4.4-inch barrel and weighs about 27 ounces unloaded. A compact SAR 9X variant features a 4-inch barrel and uses 15-round magazines, with the option to extend capacity to 17 rounds with a plus-two baseplate. Kaya notes that the longer slide sport model with a 5.2-inch barrel is particularly soft shooting, aided by a double recoil spring system that reduces felt recoil.

SAR USA Subcompact SAR 9 Variant

The discussion moves to a forthcoming SAR USA subcompact model in the SAR 9 family. This pistol has a 3.3-inch barrel and weighs about 22 ounces, emphasizing ease of concealment. Despite its slim profile, it uses a double-stack magazine holding 12 rounds, for a total capacity of 12+1 or 13 rounds when carried with one in the chamber. The slide is equipped with high-visibility fiber optic sights, and the grip is described as ergonomic for its size. Kaya emphasizes that the trigger is well suited to a concealed carry role, pairing manageable recoil with a compact, easily hidden frame intended for everyday carry use once it reaches the market.
