All right. How's it going, everybody? Clint here with Classic Firearms. Coming at you guys today from Take Aim Training and Range with a new little pistol that I'm pretty excited to shoot. Because it's got some pretty neat things that I haven't seen in a striker-fired pistol before, like a double-action, single-action trigger.

TARA Aerospace TM-9X

But before we start talking about that, let's go ahead and shoot the TM-9X by TARA Aerospace here. First off that recoil impulse in this guy is nice. I don't know if you guys can tell by watching the video, but muzzle rise, muzzle flip? Pretty minimal. Check it out. There we go. Nice. Go ahead and pocket that. Okay, let's have our X magazine. Yeah. This thing feels pretty good, guys. So the TM-9X by TARA Aerospace out of Montenegro is a pretty cool little pistol. So go ahead and take a look at this guy. And you're going to notice a couple of things that I'm going to like quite a bit of it. You've got all this Picatinny rail space underneath on the frame. Definitely a fan. I'm also a fan of the slide serrations. Go ahead and check out those slide cuts on it. I'm a press checker, guys. Anytime I take one of my pistols out, I'm typically just saying, "All right, cool. Does the extractor have the case? Yes. I've got one loaded. Perfect. I'm ready to start shooting if need be. So, cool."

The Trigger

Now the trigger on this guy, once I run dry on this magazine, I'll show you what I'm talking about, but it is a striker fired pistol. Which is neat, but it's also got a double-action and single-action feature to it. So you'll notice you've got a long pull on the trigger in it's double-action or just resting state. But once the slide cycles and you haven't let off the trigger completely, you're going to have a much less travel, about three millimeters of travel for that trigger to reset. Then maybe with the nice side view, you guys will be able to see this, but we'll see. Let's just shoot it a couple more times. And then I'll show you guys on a couple of dry fire practices here, what it looks like. So right there, I'm going to keep the trigger held back. And you'll notice whenever I start to move forward, you're going to hear it. There it is. There's the reset. Now I can let my trigger actually go further. And now it's in that double-action state. So if I shoot it just once, maybe you can get that side profile again. There. I'm going to go into that slow, steady squeeze for that double-action state. Nice. And then notice the reset right there. And then I'm going to pull the trigger again, easy. And then again, reset. Perfect. Just like that. It's nice. The recoil on it too, feels like it's going straight back into my arm, which is pretty nice. It's not a whole lot of this that's happening. So definitely liking that. Now let's go ahead and show you guys what I'm talking about with the trigger here that's a double-action and a single-action. So double-action resting state. Cool. You go ahead and pull the trigger and there it is. Now, once the slide cycles, and acts like it's chambering the next round, notice how little my finger has to travel to reset the trigger. Pretty cool. Now, if I choose not to cycle or if I'm just dry firing for fun, I can let this guy come all the way out. And now there it is. Go ahead and start applying pressure again, comes all the way up. So it feels like your standard double-action trigger, but it also is striker fired and also has that short reset and that single-action mode. So pretty neat stuff. Something that I haven't really seen a whole lot of. And it's cool when companies start coming out with neater little things like that. So, for getting those quick follow-up shots, it's definitely a lot easier to get those quick little taps, if need be. You don't have to worry about that long, consistent pull that you typically see of striker fire because you now have that single-action state. Neat stuff really. Also too, the nice thing about having that is you have that... The double-action feature is good if you might have, let's say a light primer strike. Let's say you might have a failure happening here and you have that second chance to actually pull the trigger and get that round to go down range. Boom. Nothing happened. Okay. All right. Well, let's just see here if I can go ahead and pull the trigger again. It resets the striker and everything, and allows me to get that second strike opportunity, which is nice to have. And also too, I'm a dry firing type of guy. All the time. If I'm not at the range shooting, I'm probably at home, maybe even in my sleep, just dry fire practicing. Feeling the triggers and everything else, feeling the reset where it needs to be. And I just sit here and play with it. That typically just helps me become a little bit better shooter. And it gets me more familiar with the firearm that I'm shooting. And in this case, it's the TM-9X. I've got one magazine. Let's load it up here. One magazine left and let's shoot it a couple more times. I had to, it felt too good not to. You can shoot that guy pretty quick. And I'm by no means a fast shooter, but at the same time, I can rattle off those shots about 20, 30 feet or so. And all my shots are on target. I'm happy about that.

The Sights

These sights are very easy to pick up. They're not night sights, but they do have a nice little, I guess you could say glow to them, but they're not night sights. They're easy to pick up during daytime. And if I put my hand over it you can't really make them out other than just being white. Which is still easier in a low light situation compared to like just a regular black iron sight or whatever else, but having those little inserts that are there. That's nice. I like it. Also too, the disassembly of the firearm requires you not to pull the trigger. A lot of firearms, we know like with Glock, things like that, you have to pull the trigger and then you're able to release the slide. This case, you don't have to do that. Once you've got it locked back to the rear here, it's flipped a switch and it just comes apart. Easy day. Easy enough. Now, a couple of other things that they've done that it's pretty smart is they left this big old gap right here towards the front of the grip. Now what's that there for? Notice the magazines too, have a nice little lip for the base plate. So if your mag ever gets to the point where it's stuck, or you have some sort of malfunction like that, you have the ability to just grab hold of this guy. And it gives you a lot of surface area to grab and rip this thing out of there and able to feed another mag if your [inaudible 00:06:25] mag fails you or whatever it might be. Other cool thing is, is in the case that it comes with, it's a nice little carry case. It does come with three 17-round magazines. That is definitely cool because, well, I like capacity. That goes into the entire debate of like 9 mil versus .45, things like that. It's like, "Hey, is .45 better than 9 mil? Yeah, sure. But I'd rather have 17 rounds of 9 mil than 8 rounds of .45." So, to each their own. I'll see you guys down in the comments section about that. But again, the Montenegrin company, TARA, has come out with this pistol. Polymer frame, steel slide, nice low-bore access.

Tara Aerospace TM-9 Side Profile

Bore Axis

Which, having a low bore-axis, and what that means, for those of you that don't know, is just quite physically where the bore sits. If it's lower into the frame of the gun, you're going to have that coming straight back. The recoil straight back. If it's higher, think about it. That's more weight that's sitting up here and it's going to cause more of a rock. And I think that's why I like the recoil on this guy so much is because it's more straight into my arm instead of higher up here and causing the gun to rock like I said. So pretty nice. Also too, on the frame itself, first off, go ahead and notice the texturing on the pistol grip. It's nice and aggressive, but it's not so aggressive that your hands are going to get cut up all day. It's aggressive enough to where if I'm out here sweating or anything else like that, I'm still going to have a good grip on the gun. I'm not going to feel like it's going to be falling out of my hands. And that makes me happy. Because a gun that falls out of your hands, that's not a good day. It does have an ambidextrous mag release as well. You have the button on this side that you can depress. And of course on the other side for you righties and lefties out there. So now you have a ambi-mag release. Always very cool. The sights are also dovetailed. So if you did want to replace the sights. Me personally, you guys know I do love my Trijicon suppressor height sights. That's probably what I would go for. Maybe a little threaded barrel action. But if you're looking for a carry gun, maybe you don't want all that. Maybe you just want something just like what you see right here.

The Frame

Going back down here to the frame, I do like that they added that kind of like double undercut on this guy here. It makes it very easy to grip. Very comfortable. Notice that second undercut here. A lot of people are like, "Well, why do you even need that?" Well, notice your weak hand, right where it sits. For me at least boom, right there. It's allowing me to get, again, a higher grip on the gun. A higher grip, lower bore-axis, all of that helps mitigate recoil. And this is a super comfortable gun to get on target and also to shoot as I just did. So yeah, I think TARA did a pretty cool job with this guys, and I'm excited to have this one in our possession that I get to shoot some more and play with. Again, just going to talk over a couple of features again. About a four and a quarter inch barrel on this guy. You also, again, have that Picatinny rail. I love the slide serrations. Because like I said, I am that press checker. But also too, if you do want to make sure that the chamber's loaded or unloaded you'll notice, and this is kind of something pretty smart. I wonder if I have a 9 mil in my pocket somewhere. I don't, but what's neat is you have your extractor out here. That's an external extractor. And what you'll notice is once you have one round in the chamber, that guy will just stick out just a little bit. It's enough to either feel the difference if you can't see it, or if you're just curious. But it's also enough to see the difference. So both a look and feel type of thing, if you wanted to check and see if you had a round in the chamber. Press checking is not even necessary. So again, a pretty cool thing that TARA has done. Just thinking about the little things that's possible. Last couple of things too. It does come with an adjustable beavertail back here or backstrap. So if you've got them big, thick hands and you need something with a wider grip, you can switch that out. If you want something that's a little bit smaller, you can switch that out as well. So pretty cool, again, that TARA has come out with all of this. All right.

Tara Aerospace TM-9 Case

Roundoff

So check these guys out. I think you might be pretty impressed with them. I know I am. Even the small little things like the stippling right up here above the trigger guard and just a little forward. Just somewhere for your finger to rest. Just these little types of things. But also too, again, going hand-in-hand with that double cut there, or double undercut, also somewhere for your thumb to have a nice little resting home. So good job, TARA.
