I don't know about y'all, but have you ever just been in the deer stand before and you just start getting these random thoughts going through your head like how has the cartridge that I'm hunting with right now every become a thing? Did like .50 cal and 5.56 get together, have some weird relationship and then produce a 300 Win Mag? That's what I think about.

.300 Winchester Magnum

Hey everybody, Clint here with Classic Firearms coming at you guys today with another, How Effective Is video. And the is today we're talking about is .300 Winchester Magnum. This is personally one of my favorite distance rounds to shoot, just because it's so freaking cool. It travels fast. This 180 grain projectile that we have on this one here is moving just under 3,200 feet per second. So that's a fast boy, especially for a heavy projectile. Not as heavy as a .50 BMG or anything, but just saying. 180 grain bullet, now they do have heavier and lighter grains that are moving in excess of 3,200 feet per second. I think there's 160 grain .300 Win Mag. That's moving about 33, I want to say. And then they've got slower ones. But it's the muzzle energy, or just the energy of foot-pounds that this thing keeps up with, and it doesn't degrade over time as rapid as some other larger calibers out there or about the same size, all right?

Zastava Arms M70 American Sporting Rifle

So it's a heavy hitting, hard hitting projectile. Gun, yes, but projectile for sure. And it's been a huge favorite among military, law enforcement, hunters, target shooters. It's just a great, accurate cartridge, all around. Now, 300 Win Mag has been around since the early 1960s. I think 1963 is when it was introduced. And it was a neck down from what I think was 375 H and H and they just pretty much made it kind of a .308 bullet. That's really the diameter, .308, except the .300 Win Mag. The Winchester Magnum part comes from, oh yeah the longer case. All right? This thing has a lot of powder behind it. Like I said, it is moving fast throughout the gun. Now the gun we have here to represent the .300 Win Mag, I guess you could say platform, this is one we've had in the video before. This is the Proof Elevation mountain tactical rifle, which is the lightest .300 Win Mag that I've ever played with. And I'm excited to head out to the range and actually shoot this guy some. But before we do that, I need to hear from y'all because I still have not made up my mind about what accessories I'm going to throw on this, because I'm obviously not going to take it to the range like this. I need an optic. So what scope would you guys think would be really nice on this? Go to classic firearms.com and just go ahead and sort that, price high to low and just throw out some ridiculous items, and maybe I'll select. All right? Just again, let me know down to the comment section. Bi-pod yeah, sure. But that's really all this guy needs.

Proof Research Elevation MTR

Now this is a light gun, coming in at about seven pounds, maybe at eight pounds, carbon fiber barrel, which is super nice. It's kind of like what Proof Research is known for. And this composite stock, super durable, but again, lightweight. They made this again as a mountain tactical rifle and this isn't even the lightest of their guns, I don't think. They actually have a lightweight mountain rifle. But this would here be in the Elevation NTR is pretty awesome. Okay. Does ship with a PMAG also, which is pretty nice. I think it's a five round mag. Is that right? Is that five? Yeah. PMAG five, and a nice skinny guy, as you can tell, but very nice overall. Also has a Zermatt Arms Origin action to it, which is very smooth. Feels good. But of course I can't really tell you guys how I feel about it until we actually go out there and start shooting. Speaking of shooting, the TriggerTech trigger on this also... Just for safety I'll just go ahead and show you guys really quick. But just for that, being safe here. Cool, We're there. Let's go ahead and take a look at this right here. So I'm just going to go and start applying a little bit of pressure here. That's barely anything, all right? So, very cool. And overall just a beautiful rifle. And like I said, .300 Winchester Magnum, I know is a favorite among the large game hunters. If you're looking to take down some elk, things along those lines, then this little guy, or not so little guy, is probably going to be something that you'd want to use, all right?. .300 Winchester Magnum, and also let's go ahead and compare that to a .308. This should be a .308. Yep. So here's a .308 Winchester right next to a .300 Winchester Magnum. So, similar, but not a lot. Like I said, same projectile, pretty much other this being a soft point. But same projectile as far as dimensions go. But as you can tell, this guy has got a whole lot more punch behind it.

Proof Research Elevation MTR

Again, it's that energy that's traveling down range. And like I said, large game, the famous sniper Chris Kyle, pretty sure his favorite cartridge is also .300 Win Mag. But it is definitely, definitely up there as far as a highly effective cartridge. And I would totally recommend anybody heading out for the range and shooting one, especially at distance. This guy can clear a thousand yards with ease. So if you are looking to reach, stretch it out a little bit, as far as distance goes and you're maybe in the market for a new distance gun, well check out the .300 Winchester cartridge and see if that's maybe somewhere .300 Winchester Magnum, see if that's something that really lines up for what your wants are. And if you are looking for a lightweight rifle, then check out Proof Research. Again, the carbon fiber barrel on this guy I like a lot. So the reason they did the entire carbon fiber barrels, because when you think about it, it's like it's a carbon for carbon fiber wrapped. You would think, "Yeah, okay. It's lightweight and everything, but metal is going to be stronger right?" Well, the reason they went with that is because if you're firing under duration, for a long period of time, something like that, metal will start to warp more. So due to the cooling effects and the cooling nature of the carbon fiber, they say you won't have to worry about your point of impact shifting as much with higher rates of fire, which I think is pretty neat. Right. Also too, it does come threaded. I'm going to need to throw like a muzzle break on it or something like that that has a QD option. So I can suppress it, obviously, because that would be a whole lot of fun, which I think I might have one laying around. So when we eventually give this away, because that's what we're going to plan to do, again I need to hear from you guys. Optic, sights, mounting options for the optic, what type of bipod should we throw on here? I'll throw my own muzzle break on there, and no the gun won't come with the muzzle break. That's that's mine, all right? Or the silencer. Just throwing that out there. But yeah, overall guys, I am super thrilled with this. Like I said, I haven't shot it yet. So I can't really give you guys my honest opinion as far as actually pulling the trigger and it going, "bang," especially for how light it is. I'm excited to see how that feels.

FN Ballista

Now something like the FN Ballista, which is a much beefier gun and whatnot, I've shot that guy in .338 Lapua. In fact, I can actually show it to you really quick. Okay. .338 Lapua, a little bit bigger cartridge. So this is the FN Ballista, but because of its weight and just how big it is, the recoil on this guy really ain't that bad. All right? And also too, yeah, it has this nice beefy break on it also. Okay. But there's other cartridges out there as well that maybe you guys want to hear about some, maybe you actually want to see shot like .300 PRC. If you're not familiar with what .300 PRC is it's another caliber that's got some nice size on this guy as well. I think you guys have probably seen enough 50. BMG being shot. So maybe we'll start changing it up just a little bit, all right? But anyway, let me know down in the comments what you guys think about .300 Win Mag, it's comparison to .308 that you see right here. And remember too, something else. I don't know if you guys remember when we did the entire 7.62 NATO versus .308. Remember that 7.62 NATO actually doesn't build up or have the higher pressures over .308. Unlike 5.56, it has higher pressures over .223. Kind of backwards there, right? So I think that's kind of funny. So if we are comparing more distance cartridges, heavy hitting cartridges, things like that, it would more so be .308 that we're comparing than 7.62x51. But the .300 Win Mag, yeah. Not much comparison there. It's going to be taking down whatever game it is that you're going after. And yeah. Again, one of my favorites to shoot at distance, for sure. At 468 ChyTac is also pretty cool. But yeah, anyway.

Roundoff

Hey, a couple of things I want you guys know about. I'm still seeing a lot of y'all... First of all, thank you for letting us know, but I'm still seeing a lot of you guys out there seeing the spamming and the fraudulent Facebook profile friend requesting you guys, DM-ing y'all saying that you've won a giveaway, even though the giveaway that they're messaging you about hasn't ended and they're asking for credit card information, other personal information. It is not us, all right? We are a public page and we have a closed Facebook group, the Classic Firearms buyers group, which if you've ever bought from us before you should go hop into that party. It's a good time. William? Taylor Williamson? Yeah, you're there? Anyway. Yeah. So it's not us asking for personal information. We won't do that. We will typically notify our winners of giveaways. Well, after the giveaway has ended, and also it'll be through email. That's why we need your email for you to sign up. Makes sense, right? So yeah. Keep that out there. And also too, with all of our giveaways, no purchase necessary. And just remember it is not how many entries you have that matters. It's not, well I mean, the more you have, obviously the better your chances. But it's not who has the most, all it takes is one entry. And if you don't enter you quite simply can't win. So, go possibly win a free gun. Now here, you guys down in the comments section, again, all about .300 Win Mag this Proof Research mountain tactical rifle. Again, what accessories, optics I need to throw on it and what you guys would like to see as far as the giveaway. I know you guys are probably burnt out about all the .50 cals we're giving away. I know, I'm sorry. It's sucks. But there it is. God bless you guys. We'll see you next time at classicfirearms.com and hope you guys have had a great holiday season thus far.
