The Glock 47: Four Guns In One
While perhaps not as modular as offerings from manufacturers like Sig Sauer or Springfield Armory, the Glock 47 is still a step in the right direction for Glock pistols. It combines the Glock 17 frame and slide profile with the Glock 19 recoil system, which essentially makes the Glock 47 compatible with frames / slides from its predecessors.
This feature empowered law enforcement agencies to upgrade to an optics-ready duty pistol with modern features that is still compatible with existing parts and components. For civilians, this affords shooters who run Glocks the opportunity to mix and match - creating the ideal EDC gun to suit their needs at any given moment.
Possible Glock 47 Frame / Slide Combos
Without swapping out any internal components, the Glock 47 can accept a compact slide on a full-size frame or a full-size slide on a compact frame. The pistol could also be configured much like a standard Glock 19, only with upgraded features inherent with the Glock 47 platform.
The Glock 47: Is It Worth It?
The Glock 47 is a great choice for anyone who already owns one or more Glock 9mm handguns, as this pistol adds a degree of modularity to existing models. However, there are better options available for those who are merely looking for a customizable defensive shooting platform, as the Sig P320 or the Springfield Echelon do not require the purchase of a second firearm to be considered truly "modular."
