Clint Morgan

How's it going, everybody? Clint here with Classic Firearms and we've got Alek back today.

Alex Zirkle

What's up, guys?

Clint Morgan

And pretty much Alek is going to be destroying my entire rifle setups that we have here in front of us today.

Alex Zirkle

Yep.

Clint Morgan

First off, this is Marine reviews rifle load-out, type thing. Both of us are Marine reservists, POGs for the win and you're a Combat engineer, right?

Alex Zirkle

Correct.

Clint Morgan

I'm an Ammo Tech so I know how to count ammo, at least up to 10.

Alex Zirkle

Yeah. I'm a Marine, so I can't count.

Clint Morgan

I'm not a Marine for math.

Alex Zirkle

Yeah.

Clint Morgan

Not at all. Anyway guys. Hey, we're here to talk about loadouts. And the reason we thought of this video idea is I posted up on my personal Instagram the other day about my light set up on my MK18 here. And while shooting silenced, I'm good, but the moment I go unsuppressed, I don't know what's going to happen. It's a SureFire, so I think it'll be all right. But last I checked on the story there, on the poll, most of you all said, "No, that light's going to get wrecked." Anyway, so I was like, "All right. Well, what else can you guys critique when it comes to my setup?" Let's just go ahead and introduce my MK18 because first off most of you all know about it, you've seen it in videos, I kind of am in love with it. SureFire SOCOM556-RC2 Silencer, got the Steiner DBAL on the right-hand side. I didn't like how much of the sight picture it was taking up for my holographic back here, and I can't find any of the Unity Tactical Risers. So, that's where it's going to be for now. SureFire mounted just beneath that because, well, it's a MK18 and I don't have enough rail space. All right, TangoDown little stubby grip because I don't need the full length guy on that one there. Typically, the way I hold it, it's like that anyway. Pressure pad's sitting right up top, closer to the middle of the rail. The reason I did that is because I found it to be easier for me to go to my weak hand and still be able to manipulate the controls without getting anything in the way.

Alex Zirkle

Got you.

Clint Morgan

Cool. McLean Corp sling, the sling's is growing on me. I'm practicing with it still more but it's a single point sling that actually has an administrative carrying method, kind of nifty.

Alex Zirkle

That's interesting. I've never even heard of them.

Clint Morgan

Oh really?

Alex Zirkle

Going to check it out right after this video.

Clint Morgan

Yeah, it's pretty cool.

Alex Zirkle

Sorry if you're watching the video, McLean Corp.

Clint Morgan

Anyway.

Alex Zirkle

Awkward.

Clint Morgan

EOTech holographic and magnifier because aesthetics. Radian Raptor charging handle. And you already know I love me some B5 Systems grip and stocks. And Geissele Super Dynamic, or not. Is this a Super ... no, it's the Geissele Super Semi-Auto. I think that's what it's called? It's a single stage version.

Alex Zirkle

Yeah.

Clint Morgan

And ODIN Works mag release because Gucci gear, right?

Alex Zirkle

Why not?

Clint Morgan

Yeah, man. So what do you think?

Alex Zirkle

Well, just looking at it, it's honestly pretty trash. No, it's funny. I'll tell you guys a story. I was over at Clint's house the other night, and he sleeps with his rifle. Basically, he showed this, "Hey, I'm Clint. This is my MK18. Hey, I'm Clint. This is my MK18." No, on a serious note, I think it's a good setup. Definitely, the Surefire is a must have. I think if you're going to throw a can on it, you got to throw a Surefire can on it.

Clint Morgan

Yeah. So I've used a dedicated .30 cal can before, and I got so much blowback to the face that I was crying tears of joy. I was crying tears. I have noticed that the baffle system and the RC2 really keeps down the blowback. It keeps it mitigated, so I'm happy about that.

Alex Zirkle

Not to skip because I'm going to go front to back, but that's why the Radian charging handles are so great, that little gas buster thing they got on there. So I think Radians pretty much must have as well.

Clint Morgan

Yeah.

Alex Zirkle

Iron sights are cool. Me, I typically prefer flip ups, flip downs, just so it's not necessarily in the way. Another thing too, if the DBAL, I would prefer it up top. Again, kind of making the case for the flip up, flip down, and then also too, if you're kind of trekking with this thing and get hit on brushes or anything like that, if it's up here, my idea is bad. I don't know the light switch, whatever. Like I said, there's only so many mounting solutions that you can have with the MK18s. So you got to kind of find the rail space when you get it. The EOTech again, very proven optic and the magnifier is must have, I personally prefer LPVOs, and again, this is just coming down to more of a personal preference thing. Again, guns with trigger full power springs must have. B5 grip, cool grip angle, and then I basically have a B5 SOPMOD dog gun every firearm that I own.

Clint Morgan

Yeah. I'm definitely a fan of the B5 stuff. And as you know, it's not like it's on all of my rifles or anything.

Alex Zirkle

Do you got any batteries in there, the one where optics skewed in?

Clint Morgan

Maybe. I honestly, I don't remember.

Alex Zirkle

You're lying. No, other than that, if I had to add anything, just something that I do to my own personal rifles with the ranger band, I'd probably do a tourniquet on the other side.

Clint Morgan

I usually keep a tourniquet on my battle belt on the med kit. Everything else or at least on my plate carrier, or at least a few of them, but anyway, all right, cool. So, with that being said, what do y'all think down in the comments section? Is just way too much? First off when holding this guy and everything, it's kind of like, I really do enjoy running and gunning with this setup. Right. But there is something to be said. Less is more, all right. You don't need all of this stuff. Absolutely not. And honestly, I agree with you about the LPVO, but really when you say personal preference, I just loved the look.

Alex Zirkle

I thought you were going to say this was like holding my baby because that's what I thought that's where that was going.

Clint Morgan

No, I'm just saying I love the aesthetic and just that flip, right? Now there are, of course, the better mounting systems out there. Like I said, and I agree with you, I'd actually prefer to have the DBAL mounted up top and I would actually remove the front sight post and install, maybe one of those LEAF sights, which is actually a front sights that mounts onto the DBAL, which I think is pretty cool. There's no adjustment or anything with it, but in case something fails, it's good to have backup, right? But anyway, the reason I like to run a stationary front sight is it's one less thing I have to try to maneuver, if my optics fail on me I can then flip up my rear and I'm good to go. It's one less thing I have to do, and it's also a good reference point for me. If at any point in time, if I'm in a weird position or something and I don't, thankfully with the EOTech's, I don't have to worry too much about parallax or the radical shift or anything from different positions, but it's a good reference point for me at least to get on target, If I'm struggling to find the reticle, right?

Alex Zirkle

Yeah, well that's what's cool about the EOTech's too. So I didn't believe this, I had a friend of mine that kind of showed me this, which it sounds kind of weird to say it out loud, but if you're looking through your EOTech's, so it's basically a perfectly square thing. So where this sits at with the curvedness basically, if you look center line, like you were saying through your EOTech, you're going to be man at a man.

Clint Morgan

Yeah. They can hear you coming.

Alex Zirkle

For pretty much whatever you're aiming at. Exactly.

Clint Morgan

Within distance, right?.

Alex Zirkle

Yeah. Yeah. I think that's kind of a cool thing. And like I said, that's a valid point. You just have to flip up one thing and again guys, it's kind of personal preference.

Clint Morgan

Right. Exactly.

Alex Zirkle

No one's really going to set their rifles up the exact same way.

Clint Morgan

Yeah. But I will say though, I do love some LPVOs. I think, like what we got on the Knight back there, Vortex Gen III 1-10. That is something I would love to have on this guy, but we did a video about LPVOs on shorties like this. At first, like I said, about a year or two ago, and I'm like, "What are you doing?" And now today I'm like, "Dude, that's kind of all I want to run."

Alex Zirkle

LPVO's are the way.

Clint Morgan

Well, they're the future. I mean, they really are. I mean, they're the now. First off, I think Marine Corps, a lot of grunts special ops, I hate to say that, because everybody says, "special ops," but MARSOC, Marine Corps Special Operations Command, they've been running the Leupold LTVOs for years.

Alex Zirkle

Long time, yeah.

Clint Morgan

Yeah. Actually almost over a decade now actually.

Alex Zirkle

We've used them up with the shooting teams too. And then the Trijicon LPVOs are used a lot too, even on like the SAS system I've seen SASs, more [acquainted 00:08:22] SASs like with LPVO's versus the traditional like hardscope.

Clint Morgan

Right.

Alex Zirkle

in itself, personal preference can come out play.

Clint Morgan

Yeah. So pretty cool stuff. Now, the other thing too, that we've got is just a different type of setup. This is my Colt over here and built it up kind of the same. But again, it's a little different, right?

Alex Zirkle

Yeah.

Clint Morgan

So I don't have all of the IR laser fun stuff on this guy. I just have kind of the bare bones for me. What I like is a flashlight. I like a grip. I like my ACOG on here, which as you guys most likely know, this is not a variable optic. This is a hard four powers or [crosstalk 00:08:56] set power. But because of that, if I'm having to do something a little bit close quarters, and because of that short eye relief on this guy, I do like to have my Trijicon RMR off to the side 45 degrees where it's easy just to. Very easy to get that target acquisition and we've got videos on that as well about offset sights, so if you guys are curious about that, check it out. B5 systems, [knob 00:09:16] is Geissele, Oh, actually no. I'm sorry. I swapped the Brigade on this one.

Alex Zirkle

Brigade in it?

Clint Morgan

Yeah, that's right. Because I'm still running that one.

Alex Zirkle

Feels good man, that's a good trigger.

Clint Morgan

It is. So I actually had the Geissele super dynamic in this one, which is also a flat face trigger, but I've got the Brigade flat face that I've been running just to test out for a bit and it's still running good and it's good feeling trigger.

Alex Zirkle

Yeah. I was ghosting her a little bit before we started this video. It was really good.

Clint Morgan

Yeah. I'm definitely a fan. Radian Raptor a charging handle again, same SureFire type WARCOMP, excepts that's a three-prong. On this one, I've got the closed and that's so I can take my silencer and throw it on either gun. Easy enough. What do you typically like to run on yours? What is, what actually, you know what I want to know, what is the best advice that you can give as far as bare bones minimum, exactly what you need?

Alex Zirkle

Bare bones minimum to me, exactly what you need, obviously, not talking about suppressors or any of this other kind of stuff that's on there. For me, one thing that's on here, that's really nice is the B.A.D. Lever and this is speaking completely from left-handed individuals. So with me being a left-handed person, the B.A.D. Lever, when it first kind of came out, it was like the saving grace. You know what I mean? So basically if you had to reload this thing here, and dual my MAG thing and I can just hit it with my thumb and I'm good to go. You know what I mean? So the B.A.D. Lever was really cool when it first came out.

Clint Morgan

So me being a righty, never considered that. Right?

Alex Zirkle

Yeah.

Clint Morgan

Never really considered that coming from a left-hand shooter, that's actually pretty cool. The B.A.D. Lever, what he's referring to guys on the left-hand side of the firearm, it's the Magpul B.A.D Lever, super easy to install. It just installs right onto the bolt release and allows for us right-handed shooters. When we do those reloads, just take our index finger, our trigger finger right below the mag release, hit that guy sends the bowl home. Cool. And like what Alek just showed here, for left-handed shooters, as soon as you insert the mag, just like what we can, as right-handed shooters, all you have to do is just hit the tab here, like you would with your trigger finger and send the bowl home and continue to engage.

Alex Zirkle

Yeah. Like I said, I liked the B.A.D. Lever a lot. It was really cool when it came out. Now there's obviously you can buy completely ambidextrous lowers and stuff like that. Like the Radian ADAC or the LWRCI, [crosstalk 00:11:14] things like that. Yeah. Nice. Yeah. So again, like I said, the best piece of advice that I can give is just go ahead and go ambidextrous, ambidextrous safety, ambidextrous bowl release, whatever. Aside from that, to me, a B5 system SopMod is kind of the way, like I said, you've got battery storage compartment. I mean, if this was like a survival [rustle 00:11:37], you could even throw like, [fish 00:11:39] and stuff or basically whatever. Again, ranger bands are cool. Like I said, you need throw tourniquet on there or anything like that. Another thing that's not on this one right now, but it's a sling. You need something to attach the firearm to your body, obviously, because if I could come up and just jack this thing for me, you know what I mean? It's going to be a lot easier to take.

Clint Morgan

Yeah, or if you do have all the heavy crap on it and you are going through that rough through the woods, it's nice to be able to take the weight off of your arms for a bit and let it just rest on your body, right? So.

Alex Zirkle

Absolutely.

Clint Morgan

But I will say this when it comes down to just a basic setup, guys, you really don't need all that crap that I have on my gun here. My biggest recommendation, honestly, right out the box, most guns are fine. Okay.

Alex Zirkle

Yeah.

Clint Morgan

But I would recommend a sling, and a light, and a good optic.

Alex Zirkle

Yep.

Clint Morgan

That's really the hardcore stuff that I would go for. And that's just because, like you said, slings, keep the rifle tight to your body, it's also too, if you are having to go for distance, you're not having to worry so much about fatigue on your arms. A good optic because iron sights are fine, definitely train with your iron sights, know how to use them, but having a good optic there is going to make your life a whole lot easier whenever it comes down to the seconds. Right?

Alex Zirkle

Yep.

Clint Morgan

And I do like grips too,

Alex Zirkle

Yeah.

Clint Morgan

Grips, you know I'm a fan of for comfort things like that, but a good light is definitely something I recommend because if you can't positively identify your target, then you probably shouldn't be shooting at it.

Alex Zirkle

Absolutely. Yeah, and if you're building your own rifle too, or anything like that, that a rule that I've always followed, that one of a buddy of mine told me a long time to get us to three B's. So, barrel, bulk carrier group, bullet button.

Clint Morgan

Yeah.

Alex Zirkle

So if you're going to upgrade anything from your build that you're doing, you want to make sure you have a solid barrel, solvable carrier group, solid bullet button or trigger. So that's just what he called it, but it makes sense, you know what I mean?

Clint Morgan

Yeah.

Alex Zirkle

Those are the three main components that you're going to be using on your firearm. And then something I didn't mention, but you said like optic and then some kind of backup sight and then a light, pretty much. I mean, other than that, I don't think, there's, and most of the rifles that you can buy nowadays anyways, already come with kind of some form of a free-flow rail system. So, you've got tons of mounting solutions and everything like that, and good to go right out the box.

Clint Morgan

Right out the box. Now, as far as rifle setups go, we do have one other rifle set up and want to talk about, and that's our current giveaway right behind me here guys is the FN SCAR. That's FN as an FN HERSTAL SCAR. All right. And yeah, you guys already know how much I love the look, the appeal.

Alex Zirkle

The Tactical Ugg Boot.

Clint Morgan

The Tactical Ugg Boot, the look, the appeal of the magnifier and holographic. So I decided, why not throw that on there? I actually did get, I think it was an email maybe it was a comment, I don't know. But anyway, somebody said, what's up with you in the magnifiers. Why aren't you going to the LTVOs and you what the honest answer is, we got these in the house. So figured why the heck not throw another one on there? I love the, again, the look and feel and shooting with them so that's what we got. When I'm holding the rifle with, it's a vertical grip we threw on there, and of course the INFORCE WMLx, I think it just looks really good on here, and it's ergonomic for variety. Of course, if you're left-handed you can switch it up. This is an ambi gun, you can even switch with side, the charging handle goes on, which is cool. But anyway, right here, easy enough to actuate. So, yeah.

Alex Zirkle

Easy A?

Clint Morgan

Yeah, man. What do you think about that setup?

Alex Zirkle

I love this setup. I wasn't a huge fan of the cammo and when I first got it, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. What is it like Dessert Viper or something like that?

Clint Morgan

Western Viper.

Alex Zirkle

Western Viper, that's what it is.

Clint Morgan

That's right.

Alex Zirkle

So this thing's pretty legit. I like it a lot. It's like at home with me.

Clint Morgan

I mean, whatever. So the potential winner might not like that, but that's okay. Anyway-

Alex Zirkle

They can't win it if they don't get their entries in.

Clint Morgan

...that is true.

Alex Zirkle

I'm going to take it.

Clint Morgan

Some of the entryways includes code words, and since I forgot to talk about a code word in our last giveaway, the ZENITH. We got two code words you can use on this one here, but you're only going to get the credit for one. So whatever, just choose which word you want to use. Either SCAR, S-C-A-R, acronyms. Couldn't have a couple of Marines in a video without acronyms.

Alex Zirkle

Yep.

Clint Morgan

And VIPER, V-I-P-E-R is another entry method or as far as a code word goes because of western library.

Alex Zirkle

I'm impressed that you can spell that.

Clint Morgan

All right, we're done here today, guys. Again, let me know down in the comment section, what type of review would you like to see us come out with next or like to see how Alek trash talking more, that's fine. And what is your basis? As far as a load-out goes. Again, this could be a duty firearm. This could be a truck gun. This could be a home defense gun or it could just be a plinker.

Alex Zirkle

Yep.

Clint Morgan

Whenever y'all want.

Alex Zirkle

Plinkers are cool.

Clint Morgan

Plinkers are cool. Anyway, I'll leave it off there. God bless you guys. We'll see you all next time at classicfirearms.com. Shop All Long Guns
