While suppressors are legal to own at the federal level, many states impose additional restrictions on private citizens exercising their Second Amendment rights. Read below to discover if your state is among those that allow suppressors.
The vast majority of states allow private suppressor ownership without any limitations whatsoever. However, some states have banned suppressors outright, despite the fact that suppressors are still legal to own at the federal level.
States that expressly prohibit the ownership of suppressors are as follows: California, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
Unless you reside in one of the aforementioned prohibitive states, you may lawfully possess a suppressor. Disclaimer: we always recommend contacting your local FFL / SOT dealer or state law enforcement agency for the most up-to-date information about the laws in your state.
