The Schofield model was designed to be operated with one hand while on horseback making it ideal for soldiers in the U.S. Cavalry. The break-open pistol's barrel latch opens by pulling it back and has a rear sight notch incorporated into it.
This 38SP model has a 7" barrel, blued metal finish, walnut grip, and a fixed blade front sight.
Designed by Major George Schofield to be operated with one hand while on horseback a break-open pistol was ideal for mounted soldiers in the U.s. Cavalry. Shooters could easily eject all six spent cartridges and reload while on horseback. The top break pistol also proved useful to the likes of Jesse James and Wild Bill Hickok. The Schofield features a blue frame barrel and backstrap; and a case-hardened trigger guard. The Schofield Russian was a favorite side arm of the Russian government.
