The Battenfeld 107486R, made of carbon fiber, is a cleaning rod perfect for heavy-duty tasks. Carbon fiber combines the best features of both coated and stainless steel cleaning rods and adds a unique touch of durability. While stainless steel rods might scratch or wear barrels if not used adequately, they do not amass potentially damaging small abrasive particles. Conversely, coated rods prevent the stainless steel shaft from damaging the rifling of your barrels. However, they tend to collect small abrasive particles, akin to running fine grit sandpaper through your bore.
On the brighter side, carbon fiber rods provide the best of both worlds. They neither scratch your bore like stainless steel nor embed like coated rods. Additionally, these rods can be flexed to a significant extent and can return to their original straightness effortlessly.
During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Tipton was enlisted to create cleaning rods that would endure service rifles in challenging conditions. This was when we realized that carbon fiber was the optimum material for such rods. We gave these cleaning rods the 'deluxe' epithet due to their ergonomically designed handles that spin on two sets of ball bearings. This design ensures that the rod smoothly follows the rifling both when pushing and pulling, even under pressure.
We have also incorporated shank-through construction, which allows reasonable hammer blows to the end of the cleaning rod to force a tight patch through a bore. Our range includes four diameters and six lengths to cater to most rifles, pistols, and shotguns. The rifle and handgun rods are threaded for 8-32 accessories, excluding 17 caliber and 20 caliber rods which are threaded 5-40. The shotgun rods are threaded 5/16-27.
