Discontinued Glocks & Glock Gen V Pistols

Which Glocks Are Being Discontinued?

Last week, several reputable 2A industry experts reported that Glock is sunsetting its current-production handguns. Evidently this information was leaked earlier than Glock had intended, but what started as a rumor has now been confirmed directly by Glock USA.

With the exception of compact models like the Glock 43 / 43X and Glock 48, all of Glock's current models will be discontinued immediately. The new and updated version of these previous Glock models will be known as Glock Gen V. These Gen V pistols are expected to hit the market sometime in December 2025.

Changes For Glock Gen V Pistols

According to a statement from Glock, all of their new Gen V pistols will retain the ergonomics and exterior design elements of earlier models. The following is a direct quote from Glock's press release:

"Externally, the pistols remain the same trusted look and performance you already know."

This statement seems to indicate that any changes incorporated into the V models would be internal. Some sources have even speculated that the internals have been redesigned to prevent the end user from installing aftermarket devices that may cause the pistols to function in a manner that Glock never intended. We are only speculating here, but this could mean that the cruciform trigger will be replaced by a different striker-fired system that would be more difficult to alter or modify.

If true, this measure could help Glock navigate the ever-shifting landscape of firearms laws across different states. Such a minor change would have next to no impact on performance or reliability, so shooters who like current-gen Glocks can transition to the Gen V models without skipping a beat.

Our view is this: old habits die hard, and some consumers may balk at these changes, but they appear to be necessary and Glock is not known for making mistakes. We have every confidence that the new Glock V pistols will uphold Glocks tradition of flawless performance, and maintain the same high degree of Glock Perfection that consumers have trusted now for decades.

Lock Down Your Glock While They Last

So, what does this mean for consumers? Glock will stop shipping current-production models (excluding the aforementioned compact variants) by the end of November 2025. Any remaining inventory will be divvied up amongst distributors and retailers, then Glock will shift focus to the new Gen V line of pistols.

Again just speculation, but the first Gen V pistols will most likely not feature Glock's MOS optics cut, so shooters will be limited to discontinued models if they wish to mount a red dot on their pistol. We expect Gen V MOS pistols will hit the market at some point, but it may be a while before those are available.

One thing is for certain however, and it's important to point out. Glock Gen 3-5 pistols are already flying off the shelves as customers buy up any current-production Glocks they can find. Existing inventory will likely sell out quickly, so if you've been eyeing a Glock pistol and wish to own one that doesn't incorporate the new modifications, now is the time to pull the trigger and make your purchase.
