When selecting a firearm for Close Quarters Battle (CQB), it's important to strike the right balance between ballistic performance and maneuverability. The Sig Sauer MCX Virtus Tacops in .300 Blackout offers plenty of both for the optimal defensive loadout, with a wide range of applications including personal protection and home defense.
Sig Sauer manufactures some of the most reliable AR-platform rifles and pistols on the market. Specifically, the 6.75" barrel MCX Virtus Tacops Short Barreled Rifle (SBR) chambered for .300 Blackout is a phenomenal suppressor host and has the proper twist rate to achieve accurate shot placement with subsonic or supersonic ammunition at up to 300 yards.
Moreover, there is generous aftermarket support for the MCX line - including magwells, handguards, oversized controls, and more so you can customize your CQB build to your liking. This is already an incredibly solid firearm and with a few choice enhancements, it can be configured into one of the most versatile weapons systems available on the market.
As it turns out, one member of the Classic Firearms team has extensive experience running a customized MCX Tacops in a CQB configuration. Jason's build is robust yet surprisingly controllable despite the added weight from optics and accessories, plus it is fully adaptable to practically any given mission parameter.
Low light? Not with a high-output tac light. No light? No problem, quickly throw on some night vision and run the top-mounted IR laser with custom diffuser lens. Even if you primarily rely on the EOTech holographic sight with co-witnessed backup irons, it's always nice to have options - just in case.
Jason also runs a Sandman K suppressor with E Brake, which mitigates felt recoil and makes each shot substantially quieter (especially when firing subsonic ammunition). Combined with oversized controls and a custom magwell, this setup makes for a rifle that handles and shoots incredibly well.
We recently had the chance to put some rounds down range with Jason's customized MCX Virtus Tacops and it was tons of fun to shoot. To discover the benefits of running a .300 Blackout rifle for CQB, check out our full range review of his setup below.
