Spyderco C79PSYL Assist Lightweight

The Spyderco C79PSYL knife, aptly named "Assist," is specifically designed for emergency, fire, and rescue professionals, but is also a valuable addition for the well-equipped civilian. Spyderco, with its extensive experience of over twenty-five years in crafting rescue knives, continually offers innovative features, and the Assist model is a prime example of cutting-edge technology in knife design.

Its defining feature is a VG-10 patented blunt-tipped blade, eighty-percent of which is SpyderEdged for robust cutting of seatbelts and fibrous materials. The remaining part of the blade, the last inch of the tip, is kept PlainEdge for careful, detailed cutting tasks such as sharpening pencils.

A Cobra Hood sits above the Round Hole, assisting quick blade deployment by positioning the thumb directly over the hole. It also serves as a leveraging platform for your thumb. The unique wavy patterns on the top of the blade and the inside of the handle, conceptualized by a Swedish fireman, allow for cutting of ropes without the need to fully expose the blade. Simply insert the rope between the half-open blade and the handle, and scissor the blade shut.

The FRN handle features Bi-Directional textured contours and bulges for an ergonomic grip. Another innovative design element is the retractable carbide tip that protrudes from the base when the blade is squeezed deeper into the handle while in a closed position, ideal for breaking glass. A bright orange outline on the spine of the handle houses a high-pitched survival whistle for emergencies.
