Fielded by the world's most elite special forces, including the U.S. Navy SEALs, the Heckler & Koch MP5 SD is among the most iconic submachine guns ever produced. Century has unveiled a brand-new semi-auto variant (complete with faux suppressor) for those collectors and firearms enthusiasts who appreciate faithful reproductions of military kit. Here's why you need one in your safe.
Anyone who came of age in the 80s and 90s will immediately recognize the distinctive silhouette of the MP5 SD, with its integrally-suppressed barrel and unique ribbed handguard. This is the primary weapons system utilized when a stealthy approach was critical to the success of a covert operation. Commandos creeping through the jungle under cover of night, Navy SEALs silently emerging from beneath the water's surface mere feet away from the enemy... the MP5 SD was (and still is) the epitome of cool.
For the first time, Century is adding an SD variant to their incredibly popular AP5 series so that shooters can own a civilian-legal clone of this iconic firearm. It is available with or without a brace and ships with a removable faux suppressor. This is a nice package for anyone looking to own a clone of the ultra-rare and expensive MP5 SD without paying a tax stamp.
Century's AP5 SD is a near-perfect recreation of the MP5 SD, with a couple of noticeable changes. First, as both the braced and non-braced models are technically classified as Large Frame Pistols, the AP5 SD cannot be fitted with a stock unless the user completes the necessary paperwork to convert the firearm to a Short Barrel Rifle (SBR).
Second, the faux suppressor acts as a barrel shroud and does not provide any of the benefits of a real, functional suppressor. This feature further negates the requirement for any tax stamps at the time of purchase, but it can also be removed at any time and replaced with a standard 9mm suppressor if the shooter prefers.
The look and feel of the AP5 SD is spot on. Each pistol has a cold hammer forged barrel, Navy-style trigger pack, rear diopter sight, and forward charging handle. Moreover, the manganese phosphate finish provides that timeless tactical aesthetic, while the ambidextrous safety selector switch ensures smooth operations for both right and left-handed shooters.

Unsurprisingly, the AP5 SD is every bit as reliable as Century's other MP5 clones. The pistol performed flawlessly at the range, firing several magazines (both suppressed and unsuppressed) without a malfunction. It's accurate enough for close to mid-range engagements and light enough to run CQB drills without becoming fatigued.
Those looking for a purpose-built suppressor host will be pleased with the AP5 SD, as will those who appreciate the nostalgia of the pistol's classic design and history of military service. While few individuals will experience the thrills and sacrifice of becoming a Navy SEAL, firing the AP5 SD sure does feel like the next best thing.
Whether you're looking for an incredibly well-rounded tactical PCC or searching for that special piece to round out your collection, the Century AP5 SD is a worthy addition to any arsenal. Watch below to see this incredible MP5 clone in action!
