Today numerous companies make AR9 type rifles and pistols. These firearms feed 9mm Parabellum, typically through Glock style magazines, and are a ton of fun on the range. Brigade Manufacturing out of Miami, FL, is a company making AR9s that are a step above the competition with superior materials and build quality. Their line of BM-9 rifles and pistols raise the bar for the AR9 game.

How Brigade Manufacturing Got Started I had the pleasure of speaking with Brigade Manufacturing's owner, Gustavo (Gus) Blazquez to get the lowdown on how his company came into being. Gus is no stranger to the world of firearms. Having received his first firearm at the age of six, they have been a massive part of his life ever since. Around 1993, he got into the firearms business as the representative for a major military equipment manufacturer. This job took him to Latin American, where he worked with governments to outfit their militaries with equipment. While he has tinkered with guns all of his life, Gus is also an Industrial Engineer by trade, which would prove handy when he founded Brigade Manufacturing. Brigade Manufacturing got into the firearms business in 2013 to fill a gap in the AR15
lower receiver market. In the early 2010s, forgings to make AR15s lower receivers became scarce. Since lower receiver forgings were hard to come by, Gus figured he might as well take things into his own hands, and he did so by starting a business creating billet lower receivers.
Getting into the lower receiver business wasn't the easiest thing to do as it requires complex equipment. Billet lower receivers start as a block of aluminum which is milled down by a CNC machine (a computerized machine with automated machining capabilities) to the final lower receiver shape. But despite the challenges, Gus's creations filled a need in the market and soon his one-time small business morphed into a much larger operation.

Gus ramped up billet lower receiver production by purchasing additional CNC machines and a new warehouse to build and store products. In addition to manufacturing several thousand uppers and lowers per month, Brigade Manufacturing also became an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) supplier to numerous companies. Later came their UNI-Rail handguard that offered compatibility for both M-LOK and Keymod accessories. Besides making lower and upper receivers, Brigade Manufacturing also produces a full line of high-quality AR15s that compete with the best ARs in the industry. After cutting their teeth on AR15
components, Brigade Manufacturing set their sights on a new project: the BM-9.

The BM-9 Rifle and Pistol AR9s are blowback-operated firearms incorporating AR15 uppers and lower receivers modified to function in 9mm Parabellum. Brigade Manufacturing's line of BM-9s are unique because they incorporate the quality and features typically found in a custom firearm but at an affordable production-grade price. Their BM-9 is available in both pistol and rifle format. One thing setting the BM-9 apart from the competition is that most of its components are made in-house. This is unlike other manufacturers who rely on outsourcing for the production of their firearms. When one handles a BM-9 rifle or pistol, they immediately notice the superb fit and finish. Naturally, such precision manufacturing can only exist when a company fabricates and assembles the primary components all under one roof with strict quality controls. Another unique aspect of the BM-9 line of firearms is that they utilize many standard AR15 components. While some AR9s use proprietary parts, you can easily customize the BM-9s. Want to drop in a match grade AR15 trigger group? Upgrading the trigger group on the BM-9 is an easy process. Perhaps you prefer an ambidextrous charging handle. While the standard one works just fine, our Radian Raptor charging handles
are an excellent upgrade. The BM-9 pistol is offered with a billet or forged lower depending on the preference of customers. Both versions provide the same level of quality and strength; however, the forged version is slightly less expensive. Currently, the BM-9 rifle is only available with a forged lower receiver.

The BM-9 series is an extremely versatile line of firearms. They are ideal for folks shooting in pistol caliber carbine competitions or anyone that appreciates the low cost of shooting 9mm. The series is designed to work with all kinds of 9mm ammunition
, including steel-cased ammunition which can cause some firearms to fail. Brigade Manufacturing made sure that the controls of the BM-9 mirror those of a standard AR15 so training is seamless between the two platforms.
If one needs a compact pistol for use as a truck gun, look no farther than the BM-9 pistol. The BM-9 line of pistols and rifles are also ideal for younger or beginner shooters. They give the look and feel of an AR15 without the loud blast of 5.56/.223 that can intimidate less experienced shooters. Specs and Features

Patent Pending Uni-Rail When Brigade Manufacturing decided to make a free-floated handguard, they initially considered the Keymod system. After thoroughly researching the platform, Gus realized Bridgade could engineer a new slot system that could accept both M-LOK and Keymod accessories
. This new universal rail was dubbed the Uni-Rail. The jack of all trades nature of the Uni-Rail is a game-changer in the free-floated handguard industry since it allows the flexibility of both Keymod and M-LOK use.

The Story Behind Brigade Manufacturing's Name Brigade Manufacturing takes its name after the famed Brigade 2506 that took part in the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba in 1961. The Brigade was formed by Cuban exiles with American help after the Cuban Revolution. Gus's father was a member of Brigade 2506 and assisted in the creation of Brigade Manufacturing. Brigade Manufacturing operates in honor of Gus's father and all the brave Cubans who fought in an attempt to take back their homeland. As a first-generation Cuban-American, Gus takes great pride in the fact that Americans make Brigade Manufacturing's products right here in America. In fact, every product that leaves Brigade Manufacturing features, "Keep America Working, Buy Products Made in the USA, " printed prominently on the invoice. Conclusion For those in the market for the best AR9 style firearms, look no further than the BM-9. Through the use of high-quality materials and an eye toward detail, Brigade Manufacturing raised the bar for AR9s. However, don't just take our word for it, shop our selection of BM-9 rifles
